Hi Jessica :) I just wanted to say thanks for being out there in the public eye as a trans woman. Transgender youth need a lot more role models than we currently have. I myself am a 19 year old trans girl who is just starting her transition, and you were the first trans person I can remember ever seeing in the media. Thanks for everything you've done :)

@angeltriggs I'm sure the lifeguard already told you this but the thing with riptides is that you need to swim SIDEWAYS NOT AGAINST THE CURRENT. You need to get out of the riptide which may be all of 10 to 20 feet wide and once you're out of it you can be in a normal current and swim from there. So if you're ever caught again don't head for the shore but parallel to the shoreline, sideways until you get out of the riptide.
