You can really hear the early Dire Straits sound in his playing. The band's sound really changed after him and Pick Withers left.

Guy9998....YES..the sound changed a lot. It took Mark K a long while to find his feet again. "Money for Nothing" was the winner for him.

Just uploaded this song with Dire Straits from 78, and it's really cool to hear. David sings their too and I guess it was the only time Mark let him do that. :)

It's a nice video! In my opinion it's almost impossible to compare David and Mark, they're both different musicians. I like the way David is able to make a "full" sound with only 4 musicians; their interaction is very interesting. If you have the opportunity to see DK playing somewhere, just go! You won't be dissapointed!

I agree I think that David is a fine musician but I don't know if you agree he just is not as natural looking or playing live than his Brother Mark. He just doesnt have the same stage presence or natural ability. Just my opinion!

Dire Straits played this in the 70's, didn't they? I have a very old version on my iPod that I downloaded from some foreign DS website.

Yes, it´s true. Dire Straits played "Bernadette" live in 1979. The song has never been released. A recording of the song you can find on CD 1 of the Bootleg "First Complete Dire Straits Live Project", but the sound quality is not very good.

DK is one of those diamonds you have to dig for. It's well worth the search though. He's way too underrated as a songwriter.
