@Kinny4421 it simply boils down to plenty of practise. I try and do at least one painting a day to keep improving. Best of luck and thanks for watching.
I tip my hat to you....I unpaked my medium Hake to "play" and realised right away that you have to "learn it" I am stunned that you work with such few tools.but yourworks speak for themselves.I hear from my family That i went crasy but even my class list demanded much more than you mentioned.. What about your easel?
@bsonenthal1 the hake holds so much water it can be a nightmare at first. I always hold a tea towel in my other hand along with my palette to wipe the brush on to remove excess water. My paper is clipped in each corner on a piece of plywood that just leans against my standard easel. There's a drawer below the paper, just out of shot, on which my water jar stands. Best of luck with your painting.
@bsonenthal1 that's the lot, yes. The reasoning behind it was the fewer materials you used, the more intimately you got to know them and how they behaved.
steven just a note , when i ordered my brushes , they had a"run" on those brushes that they had not expected. also is that your stock? (all your tools) that you use for these paintings, or are you like the rest of us with many other brushes and paints sitting about?
@bsonenthal1 sounds like the hakes are becoming quite popular! What you see in these videos are the only tools I've ever used. I've got the 3 brushes, 7 colours and the cheap paper. They're the same tools used by Ron Ranson whose videos inspired me to start painting in the first place and I've never had any reason to use anything else. He emphasised the need to keep things simple and to paint with the minimum of fuss and fiddling.
steven; got my ron ranson Hake brushes. A medium and a large. but much longer than yours.... I presume that you trimmed the brush for easier handling.... Not a lot of dealers will carry them.
steven; thank you not only forthe demo but also for the narration. it helps to know your thinking. what kind of palette is that? I have more respect for cotman because of your work. .
@bsonenthal1 Thanks for watching the videos. The palette is a child’s finger painting tray. It’s very light plastic so I can hold it throughout the painting without any problems.
Lovely painting - especially the rocks they are so effective.

So unlike those of us in the "colonies" who buy everything in sight, you own three brushes a few tubes of paint and a pad of paper. interesting,...

@bsonenthal1 yes, I cut the handle down on mine so I could fit it in a bag I was using at the time. Best of luck!

Very good video, I like the way when you put in the twigs with the rigger over the background mountain it pushed it back even more. Great work.
