There is no doubt in my mind that Martinez ran out of gas midway through the 10th round.
I would have given Williams the last 3 rounds. But I think Martinez won the fight, barely. I don't fault the judges, but I do think the ref was very quick to separate and he almost always looked at Martinez when separating. He knew separation would help Williams.
I didn't know the legally blind were allowed to judge pro fights in New Jersey, I guess I was wrong. I have to disagree with Lederman though, I scored 7-5 for Martinez, and that would include the 1st round, which Martinez clearly won because his knockdown actually hurt Williams and was all speed and power, whereas Williams "knockdown" was really about 75% Martinez being out of position, he wasn't hurt at all by the punch. That's two fights in the US where Martinez was hosed by judges/refs.
By statistics, power shots and punches percentages, Martinez could have won this match. I reviewed it and again it looked like Martinez had won more rounds than Williams. It would have been better if they scored it a draw. But 119-110 is ridiculous.
Reason Williams won? Martinez was gassed.. Can't give a fight to a boxer stumbling and throwing exhausted hooks in the later rnds. Martinez got rnds 1-5 though.
On the 1st round, Martinez went down from bad footing, not from a punch. If it wasn't for that mistake, the fight would've been declared a draw even with the bought judge who scored it 119-110. Personally, I thought Sergio won the fight by 1 point.
I got this fight 116-112 williams. Think Williams should take the next fight if martinez is having as much weight difficulties as I've heard. Even if he isn't, Williams should make adjustments to make this next fight more clear cut in his favor.

Yeah that was an awesome fight. none of the stuff under this has anything to do with it though. Williams just has that drive. Even when it hurts and you can see it he keeps on pushing.
11st of all the punisher williams performed very poorly, coz he didnt want to listen to his trainer coz he got emotional after getting dropped. martinez gave him a great fight and caugt him wid big shots every round. if the punisher williams won its coz his work rate and determination. but next fight if paul williams uses is head and listens to his coach he should out box sergio, in fact sergio was tired and kept falling over, but sergio used wat he had to his advantage, body, head combo

Lederman usually does a decent job scoring, but I don't know how Williams won the 4th and 7th rounds on this card,
There is no doubt in my mind that Martinez ran out of gas midway through the 10th round.
I would have given Williams the last 3 rounds. But I think Martinez won the fight, barely. I don't fault the judges, but I do think the ref was very quick to separate and he almost always looked at Martinez when separating. He knew separation would help Williams.

I didn't know the legally blind were allowed to judge pro fights in New Jersey, I guess I was wrong. I have to disagree with Lederman though, I scored 7-5 for Martinez, and that would include the 1st round, which Martinez clearly won because his knockdown actually hurt Williams and was all speed and power, whereas Williams "knockdown" was really about 75% Martinez being out of position, he wasn't hurt at all by the punch. That's two fights in the US where Martinez was hosed by judges/refs.

By statistics, power shots and punches percentages, Martinez could have won this match. I reviewed it and again it looked like Martinez had won more rounds than Williams. It would have been better if they scored it a draw. But 119-110 is ridiculous.

On the 1st round, Martinez went down from bad footing, not from a punch. If it wasn't for that mistake, the fight would've been declared a draw even with the bought judge who scored it 119-110. Personally, I thought Sergio won the fight by 1 point.

@OTKP Did you listen to the telecast? Lampley repeatedly states that it was a close fight, but he just preferred Martinez's cleaner punches, an opinion that is shared by many others. You quout the word "robbery," (and capitalize it for some reason) but he never actually used that word. He did say that Pierre Benoist was blind for scoring it 119-110 "for either figher," a sentiment with which most rational observers would agree. This fight was very close, and he repeatedly says this.

Sergio Martinez won that fight. He landed the cleaner, harder, more effective shots throughout the course of the entire match. The three American judged played some dirty politics and wrongfully gave the win to their own countryman -- Williams. That official who scored it 119-110 should be investigated, then banned from judging for life. It was an incredible war -- one for the ages -- but in all honesty... Martinez won by score of 115-113.
