  • one of my favorites .......love this

  • what would compel someone to dislike this?

  • wonderful

  • it is so clear and smooth... perfect!

  • Where is the end?!

  • how can you not like this??? how??

  • sarah chang who?

  • @sesamestrt 6, not 5

  • Best version on youtube!

  • Very beautiful music!!!!

  • @jasonman071 There are a lot of great modern composer, Bartok (even if I'm not a "fan", he is great), Shostakovich, Prokoviev. And I think they are at least as great as classical composer. Mozart and Haydn and th eyoung Beethoven are not the only great composers

  • @GGbreizh The word modern, what I mean was like the pop "music", not those from the 20th century music. The World classical is included the Baroque, classical period, and the 20th century music Different composers are good in different ways. like Chopin is good at piano, Mozart and Beethoven, they are good at symphonies and sonatas etc...But some how, these music, included the 20th century composers, they are still better then the modern, like pop music. I hope you understand what I mean~ :D

  • @jasonman071 word* -,-

  • @jasonman071 I thought you meant the 20th century music, in french, the music from the first half of the XXth century is called modern, excuse me.

  • 6 jerks online!

  • Of course this IS the greatest violinist playing the greatest violin concerto written thus far.Thank you Messrs Perlman and Barenboim. :-)

  • Perlman est l'un des meilleurs violonistes, il interprète super bien cette oeuvre. JE compte bien m'en inspirer comme je joue en ce moment ce morceau :).

  • This is not a video, it is an audio recording. It would be helprul if you said so.

  • Modern music is no way better than classical music

  • amazing! love itzhak perlman! i wish we were related :) haha

  • Wykonanie Perlmana jest b.precyzyjne ale przemawia do mnie bardziej S.Mintz...

    wielbicielka 11

  • I love I think Sarah Chang and Itzhak are on the same level :-)

  • @JPLGaGa123

Well, thats what you think and its ok but,

I think that Perlman has a more thicker and warmer sound then Chang(tho she is still amazingly talented...)

  • @JPLGaGa123

  • I remember watching this Concerto live at the Houston Symphony, his interpretation is nearly unchanged, and happens to be the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.

  • Can we stop talking about Justin Bieber please!

  • @maria979899 Qué conmovedor, este es mi concierto favorito para violín aunque yo soy pianista je, saludos espero visites mi canal y te des oportunidad de ver alguno de mis videos :)

  • Justin Bieber disliked this on 5 accounts

  • @Sesamestrt lol, be kind, he's just a kid...

  • @Sesamestrt 6!

  • @Sesamestrt That tells more about Justin Bieber then about this piece of music.

  • @Sesamestrt Just because someone has extremely obnoxious, ridiculous, fangirls, doesn't necessarily mean that that person has horrible taste in music. Personally, I'm not a fan of Bieber, but lay off the bashing, and let's savor these 6 minutes and 15 seconds of bliss instead.

  • Perlman is simply a genius. His interpretations are always so thrilling it's hard to put in words. For me, it's a beauty in its purest form.

  • Best interpreration ever of the Mendelssohn violin Concerto. I'm a cellist but emotionaly we all understand, and he plays with a lot of emotion this concerto that in my life i don't see any best interpretation. Thank you very much!

  • This is the performance that I am most familiar with and by far my most favorite.

  • I love his choice of tempo

  • for another version of this, search quad threat by genelec & memphis reigns on youtube. its sooooooooo good

  • Perlman is the greatest living violinist. Such beauty

  • I absolutely love this no fancy words or descriptions necessary...

  • I absolutely love LOVE this.... no fancy words or descriptions necessary...

  • To the 4 who didn't like this - are you aging Wehrmacht/Schutzstaffel, gnashing your teeth that you didn't obliterate Mr Perelman's parents?

  • @cowboy81069 Well, it rather you who acts like Wehrmacht ... Why everybody should obey your commands and follow your preferences. Respect everybody's right to express his/her likes or dislikes. It is none of your business.

  • @violinoamore Struck a nerve, did we? Great!

  • @cowboy81069 not at all, you just show your stupidity which is just your problem, boy

  • I much, much prefer the pace of this version to Heifetz'. Beautiful.

  • The main theme is so perfect. I do not know why Mendelssohn would not repeat it later in the movement.

  • @Johannes999999999 Well technically it does show up later, either by the orchestra or in a different key. It shows up in G Major at the beginning of the first "springboard" section.

  • @lorditachijr That may be true, but with such a long movement, simply reiterating the theme when the piece returns to e minor would be very satisfactory.

  • @Johannes999999999 Yeah I think that would be completely appropriate and very nice. But the transition he has in there (before the final section) from major to minor is so powerful I don't think I would replace it if I were him. Maybe just change the first few measures of it, but the page-long transition he has is still great.

  • @Johannes999999999 But I still completely agree with you about the theme. I love it and wish it were a little more prevalent.

  • @Johannes999999999 This is such an urgent, forward-moving piece, i think simply reiterating the theme would cheapen the brilliance of it. The mysterious main theme is always there... just never in the same way. It's what I love about this movement!

  • After listening to things like these I can't listen to rap or rock (and vice versa) haha

  • so...beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OMG!

  • Andre Rieu

    Itzhak Perlman

    Best Violinists ever

  • I saw him live playing this last thursday!

  • I just think Sarah Chang's blows this and others out of the water. Granted, it's still beautiful to listen to, Sarah Chang just mastered it.

  • I love both Itzhak and Heifetz but I agree with you goza

  • 1:06 !!!!!!

  • @ProportaReviewsUK ... what about 1:06?????

  • @Coolcat607 it's my favorite part

  • @ProportaReviewsUK oohhhh ok haha nice

  • @ProportaReviewsUK lol, its not even when perlman plays :P

  • Thanks a million for uploading this. But I am sure this is not the performance from the concert with ma, and barenboim. It gotta be from some other concerts, or simply studio recordings.

  • SUPER

  • This is the finest virsion I've ever heard. Pearlamn told me with his violin that music doesn't need to be in a really fast tempo into order to show off his skills. But feelings, bowings, phrasing.

  • what emotion sparks within u?

  • ok guys, plz help me,

what do you think of/imagine when you hear this song?

  • @Amarynthine The imagination is up to you. I personally picture when I first heard this, there was this virtuoso guy playing... so I try and play it all virtuoso and show offish as I can

  • @Amarynthine For me it's about the bitter-sweetness of life mainly, although it runs through the gamut of emotions, there's hope, confrontation, sadness, acceptance... it's not about thinking or imagining, it's about feeling.Hope that helps.

  • Perlmans version of Mendelssohn is defiantly more elegant and refined compared to sarah changs aggressive take on this piece. :) thanks for the uplaod

  • such pure sound T_T

  • My favourite piece to play :)

  • @armouredamazon You play it? I love the andante I think that's what it's called or allegretto don't remember. :)

  • maicol2931ruiz-FANTASTICO,EXCELENTE,BELLISIMO,¡¡¡BRAVO!!!

  • maicol2931ruiz ¡¡¡Grandioso!!!

  • Fantastic!!! very well, but I prefer Sarah C. version.. (Y)

  • Ima see him perform this very mendelssohn violin concerto in about a month in toronto...so very thrilled about it

  • muito lindo

  • muito lindo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Clean!

  • 'better' is highly subjective, they are both soloist, they are at the point where they are different, not better than one another

  • In my opinion this is a very wise choice of tempo, it allows perlman to be very expressive at the beggining and to be clear throughout the whole piece. Heifetz's tempo is more exciting in my opinion, I love both to death though. Thnkas for posting.

  • @violaplayer1995 I'm playing it at this tempo... I personally think it's a bit slow... but that is just personal interpretation... he plays it beautifully. And although Heifetz's tempo may be more exciting I am thinking it is a bit too fast. Two different ways of playing it and I have to find a happy medium :)

  • @violaplayer1995 You are absolutely right. That is why there are so many recordings by different artists. Each one has their own interpretation. Again very insightful.

  • Heifetz - Oistrakh - Perlman al three are fine, do you expect these musicians to fail a concerto? You probably can't play half the concerto, stop talking and just listen.....

  • Hmm.... I mean, you didn't really have to be so harsh on him. I know that, personally, my brother at 17 is playing music on par with the mendelssohn. He's completely amateur. Sure, he can't play half as well as Perlman, but I don't doubt at all that Kleobleeciyia is working on the Mendelssohn, most likely with a private teacher.

  • I like the speed of this one better than Heifetz's. This one at least feels like a strong 4/4 allegro. Heifetz takes it in 2 and I feel that it limits the expressiveness

  • pearlman's mendelssohn is better than Heifetz's...

  • its not necessarily better... its just that heifitz's is so fast its kind of hard to absorb everything. they are both incredible though. i personally like the emotional and personal quality that perlman gives.

  • @musicalme95

    Totally agree.

  • Magnífico. Estupendo. Um som cristalino e apaixonado. Só comecei a gostar de Mendelssohn a meio da minha vida, mas confesso que agora me é absolutamente indispensável!

  • I think your nuts, pearlman's and chang's interpretations of this piece are spot on. If you are going to say they lack emotion, by all means lack to one that does by your definition.

I think he plays it beautifully.

  • Honestly, it is a shame that anyone with the technique to master the concerto in just 4 days is so lacking in musical depth and appreciation, thinking that adding a bit of 'emotion' (probably volume + speed control?) will make a great piece. If that's the case, we'd have millions of excellent violinists. If so, why is there just one Perlman?

  • Por este concierto Mendelsohn, merece pasar a la historia de la musica con letras de oro.Itzhak Perlman,no toca el violin,lo reinventa y magnifica.

  • Brilliant, played by the best violinist there is, thank you so much for posting this recording

  • Like most violin pieces, it's not as difficult as it first looks. I just played this (only about 8 mins of it though) for a state conpetition rather well... Certainly not as well as Perlman. And I only had 4 months to learn it w/ no help... I love this song ^^

  • i'd have to disagree, i'm working on this right now (after having played other pieces that are considered "harder") and yes, maybe it's easy to play all the notes, but there's subtle phrasing, articulations, and getting the style right is what makes this piece hard. you can't just rip into the strings like you can other pieces (lalo or other romantic composers) because mendelssohn has to have the perfect balance of classical and romantic. so actually, this piece is more difficult than it looks.

  • Well said

  • Let me rephrase my past comment, I took it into account that other musicians who saw my comment would know that I was only taking one stand on the song. The notes. Maybe not for you, but for me it's the notes that are hard, I can play with emotion eaisly, moving my fingers precicely and quickly is something that is much more difficult for me. Good point, although like I said, I was only attacking one part of learning the piece

  • i tried playing it and i almost crapped my pants soo...

  • it is easy but the emotions are very difficult to master and Perlman is terrific in every sense, you are 100% wrong

  • There's a difference between simply playing the notes, and producing beautiful music.

  • this is really true,... playing the notes can nearly everyone, beeing technically in this area,... (nearly 1.000.000 Mio. asian violinists,.... ) but, this what perlman does, is awesome... ... to my mind in this time there is nobody else playing this as good as him.. (expect Oistrakh in the 50´s ) ...

  • when I see the score and then I listen Perlman's performance I think....This piece is trully difficult although Perlman can play this without any kind of problem xD

  • O andamento é Vivace Non Troppo ~. EStá muito sobrecarregado, Heifetz sim sua interpretação é melhor!

  • Simply beautifull

  • 狗日的

  • really?

  • Hey u shut up what du u care what i coment mr CRMOMOMENTON!!!

  • I wonder how old he was when he performed this, anyways, it's a great performance!! I love it.

  • i like thise song!!!!

  • What a pointless comment. You could have at least noted what you think made this such a spectacular performance. That would have been interesting to other people.

  • i find your comment on his pointless comment equally as pointless. making my comment on your comment also pointless... if were gunna be jackasses i mean damn dude

  • i just started my grade 9 violin... wow this piece is hard

  • I don't think this is Perlman's best performance..

  • Up there? Itzhak is a far more experienced and talented than Sarah Chang. And if Perlman's interpretation isn't Romantic, I have no idea what it is.

  • I do agree that Perlman is better... right now. She has as much potential as him, in my opinion. Anyways, I could have stated my above comment a little better.

  • You must be either nuts or Sarah Chang's cousin. Listen to Chang w/ the NY Philharmonic and she plays like a robot.

While it's true that Perlman recordings have tended to sound overexerted and maudlin, particularly in his many later years recordings, but this Mendelhsson is a gem. It shows his shinning talent which propelled him to the forefront of violinist. And yes, for this piece, he plays a whole world much more romantic than amateur Chang does.

  • if sarah chang is an "amateur" as you claim, then what about the rest of us who play for leisure and are not as good as Chang? Are we worthless pieces of crap?

  • Wtf? Wow, that's extremely weird that you think that.

  • Itzhak Perlman is the best violinist of every times. Your emotion, your tecnicles, don´t exist igual.

  • @dexterspe: I dont think so, sometimes its beautiful but i dont think his intonation is the best...

  • @dexterspe are you portuguese?

  • If you like this one check out the Heifetz one. He's like twice as fast as Perlman.

  • I don't know, I personally think Itzhak's interpretation (although slower than Heifetz's) is much more emotional and beautiful.

  • @Gozaburo1 It feels lagging to me.

  • @Gozaburo1 I agree with you!

  • @Gozaburo1 In my opinion it's not about tempo itself, the point is that Perlman's interpretation is more lyric and introverted, while Heifetz's interpretation is romantic and extroverted. Whether you prefer one or other depends on your personality, but you must admit that the both interpretations are beautiful and emotional in different ways, and both of them are fantastic and unique.

  • the thing about playing at this level is that it dosen't matter how fast u play the song, it's how much emotion you put in. if you wanna see perlman playing some wiked fast passages search his bazzini in russia, now thats some crazy playing

  • yes, i see that. and if we listen to all violists on this peace, we will there are lots of differences in speed, bass, and emotion. Ivy's play sounds a bit cold i think. I love Perman and Sarah Chang on this peace, and i love Heifetz's record too

  • Yes Perlmans version is great and Sarah Changs is good aswell, but you should listen to Oistrakhs version, it's really amazing. Oistrakh has that intense beautiful sound and that incredible care for the phrases, that Perlman has too.

  • Wow, do the first three seconds of this piece ever sound like the beggining of Rachmaninoff piano concerto no. 3!

  • this is soooo beautiful..

  • I have this version in my computer and it's one of the best concerto I've ever heard!

  • magnifique interprétation remarquables musicalités et sensibilité

  • It is ridiculous to compare Sarah Chang with any of the ''veterans'' (Perlman,Gitlis,Grimiaux,Ferras)...they are simply not on the same level

  • yoyo ma and perlman are best friends :]

  • I love this music. Melody is profound and gorgeous. Intepretion is excellent and impressive!! Thanks for uploading! =)

  • i love both chang and perlman's renditions. in compromise, i'll just listen to one of them every other day. ^^

  • Comment removed

  • Perlman make a great version.

  • sarah chang plays like a robot. this is beautiful.

  • I've got to say I've never really rated Perlman compared to all the other great violinists out there, but I have to say this is the best Mendelssohn I've heard, in my opinion. Gave me goosebumps.

  • Klasse Aufnahme!

    Perlman spielt einfach super.

  • Wonderful music they put together!

  • I have already listen Chang and what I can say is that Perlman is far better...

  • Don't you mean "listen"?

  • retard. your comment obviously shows you have no musical knowledge

  • One day I was sitting with sheet music from the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto Nr. 3 in my hand. The title to the music was in Russian, and read "Рахманинов" so nobody really was able to read the title. Then one guy came up to me, asked to see the sheet music I had and after looking at it, trying to impress but not understanding what it was said "Oh, that looks easy."

Yours is that kind of a comment.

  • jesus christ....i guess u listen with ur eyes!!! listen to this excellent phrasing, passion, feeling, different slides, different vibrato...he has ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING except nice boobs......

  • Sarah Chang isnt even able to tune Perlman's violin.. learn to listen...

  • perlman is absolutely the greatest

  • I believe that the CD this recording came from also has Perlman and Ma playing the Brahms Concerto for Violin and Cello on it also. Thanks for posting!

  • Perlman RULES

  • This isn't the Vivace Non Troppo movement... it's the Allegro Molto Appassionato...

    But fantastic anyway!!!

  • in my humble opinion this is the best violin concerto ever wrote

  • ahhh..but this song's got nothing to do with yoyoma XD

  • You may be right. The CD I got it from said Ma, Perlman, and Barenboim playing Mendelssohn. Hmmmmmmm.... I'll check it out and let you know.

  • alright, thanks man

  • Well, I checked it out. The CD I got it from was useless because a friend gave it me burnt. I looked online (google) and found only two sites. Both sites have only an audio, but both sites also have Barenboim, Perlman, and Yo Yo Ma playing. I'm sorry but I can't come up with a solid conclusion. I'm pretty sure that it was just a rumor that Ma played with Perlman and Barenboim. You were probably right. Anyway, thanks for watching my videos.

  • haha..its alright...great playing

  • yeah he did... it was just in the beethoven triplekonzert not mendelssohn; it's even on youtube now

  • why is yoyoma in the mendelssohn? =P was this from the same cd as the triple concerto?

  • No, not the same CD. I just used the cover to show Perlman, Ma, and Barenboim together.
