  • i watched this on acid and cried, because of its sheer beauty

  • gah... the separation of lines didn't stay... oh well

  • A poem i wrote while listening to this song: the moon rose out of the lake ripples along it's path through the stars the drums played calling the spirits of mist to rise from the black lake grabbing the surface they pulled themselves from the darkness the whisps curled together into forms unknown they whispered to me the ancient rights of nidstang
  • binding unto my skin i was turned to stone and cast into the water the agony pierced my consciousness i screamed it was ragged my voice tore through the shadows as i screamed the rights and slowly mist rose from me divorced itself from my body drifted above the water and drowned in the weight of darkness as the moon feel moon fell into the water the ripple casted away the last traces of my being
  • Then around 12 minutes is amazing ..

  • Wow

  • I cant write anything its too breath taking

  • During the Viking Age to put a "nid" on someone was to put very powerful verbal curse upon them. The power of words was not taken lightly by these efficient warriors, so to make a curse of this kind was very serious. It was the ultimate insult, and used only in dire circumstances......to read more go to ravenkindred on the internet. Just think if humankind of today lost electricity and had to live like our forefathers of ancient times....most of us would not make it...

  • this song always gives me the chills when i walk home at night. awesome feeling

  • "Aaaaahhhhhhh" said the sparrow to the whore. The sparrow shall spare no sorrow.

  • @MrZombiejfk I'm not gonna lie, I laughed pretty hard at that.

  • 7:23 brings me chills and tears, its hard to explain how good this song is...

  • Look in the URL. When you see it...

  • @ljungan58 HA!

  • If you guys like that part which begins on 12:30, you should check Ash Ra Tempel, kraut rock band form the '70s, the song Echo Waves for example.

  • @Malaikat31 so glad i looked it up, thank you!!

  • Perhaps the best song in the album

  • 7:23 the most epic part

  • sounds like burzum that neverending song...something like som engan var or idk how you spell it

  • Toronto: What song are you listening to? brought me here

  • @ 08:11 You

  • when the song shifts into the doomy part at 6:30, Its so fucking sick!

  • profound recording. anyone know much about the specific meaning/origin of the lyrics? mythological story or something? I'm curious - not that the song needs further explanation - it's undeniably soulful, thought provoking, comforting, and haunting as it is....

  • @danielacheson a nidstang is a pole that is used to curse something. I think the song is about a lake that has been cursed by a nidstang. The first lyrics that are in a whisper are the dead bodies/spirits in the lake, next the shrieking lyrics are the nidstang talking, and finally the third verse is the narrator or maybe the person who created the nidstang.

  • Awesome vocals in this one. Reminds me of Lifelover, Woods of Infinity

  • hail from india.this song is like "are yu kiddin me"??

  • I imagine a black lake, screaming wtf?

  • Easily the best track on marrow, imo.

  • This is haunting and beautiful.

  • So honored to be from the same state as these guys. Oregon FTW!

  • @aarongtr180

aren't most of the members from Montana? :P

  • @jacksonlefteye They're based in Portland, OR, I believe. I don't know if they were born there, though, haha.

  • Those swells in the beginning paint a picture in my mind of when all humanity has consumed itself, no hope left. just wasteland and the hopeless ignorance which our world lives in.

  • I used to be a HUGE fan of Novembers Doom. Like maga huge. What changed this was the Christ bashing. I don't understand. Is ND a black religion band now? I am not the most perfect, well not at all actually, person in the world but God has got me out of a many tight spots in my life. But, to each their own.

  • @dogtrauma What you call god, Agalloch calls nature. Now extrapolate naturalism and materialism into your own life and realize it was you that got yourself out of those tight spots, not a god.

  • @dogtrauma I'm sure you still like November's Doom, my friend, No doubt there's a force higher than us out there, but it's not something we must abuse for political purpose and control people with it. music is something holy itself.u can't just stop liking something cause of ur beliefs, i think so - If u look at ur life from a side you'll see that it wasn't any god getting u through tough things, it's urself making the right decisions and being brave(which is a rarity) when needed, peace bro

  • breathless ... such a great album!

  • A lot of ambiance fading/drifting in this album... not quite the composition and structure as displayed in Ashes Against the Grain, so overall I would still say the album with the most bang is still Ashes Against the Grain. However this song (Black Lake Nidstang) is probably my favorite Agalloch song. The black metal vocals with the empowering guitar rhythm just engulfs the listener with emotion you're meant to feel from Agalloch's mystifying and obscured arrangement.

  • After two spins of Marrow, I have a feeling iterb their worst album. Black Lake Nidstang is the only song that gave me shivers - and it's easily one of best Agalloch songs.

  • @patiomkin2001 I felt the same way when I first got this album. I didn't like it because of the production. But I kept listening and now it's easily my favorite album of theirs and it blows my mind.

  • Marrow of the Spirit is my album of the year. I am not really into black metal that much, but Aagalloch's sound is so refreshing in a world where everything sounds the same.

  • !!! The moment I heard that song it became my all time favorite what a trip

  • γαμαει

  • this is fuckin crazy!

now i shall yearn for the tablatures to come!

  • First snow flakes here in Athens, Greece and this song is just so perfect for the occasion. :-)

  • This is like the deepest purple....Once the wail begins at 7:23 the hair on my back rose up and shivers went down my spine...whoa. Unbelievable song. Agalloch continues to push deeper into the depth of what is our pure soul. Like when the lights go out in your home and you have to walk around on instinct. This takes you places where only our ancestors of 10,000 years ago walked.

  • @NailofHeaven well articulated dude, i agree about how its super evocative of like an ancient pain

  • @NailofHeaven Dude, you couldn't have said it any better. There is an agony in the vocals that comes through like nothing else ever has in a song. Amazing.

  • @NailofHeaven

nicely put man, i love reading Agalloch fans' articulate descriptions of what Agalloch means to them, this group truly taps into a special vein that most bands would never possibly encounter

  • @NailofHeaven Beautifully stated. HAIL!

  • "I've sent this peril... To the world; this peril shall spread all sorrows And you are but gods watching from below at the base of the totem in the black temple of the Earth I am...I am the silence inside the tomb You created the stars and gave birth to all the heavens; the darkness of space and time So go...go to the nightside end below"

  • @AceKorpsegrinder best part!

  • Me encanta su lúgubre atmosfera. Es tristemente hermosa❤

  • John Haughm's vocals are beast on this track, his best alongside Fortress pt 2.

  • really nice album. i can listen to it all day!!!

  • whoooooo, fantastic!

  • The moog in combination with the clean guitar work later on in the song really sends you drifting off, then Haughm's grisly vocals send you plummeting back down to earth. This song is quite a trip.

  • marrow of the spirit is amazing!!!

  • Amazing track!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The title is "Black Lake Nidstång"
