hmmm yea i guess we could get rid of labor unions to get more jobs back to the US .... i mean whats so bad about not making shit for wages and living in little huts and not having any retirement right>?
@DAGDAsRevenge An idea of an independent America is a fascinating one. However, our economy is dependent on oil, and as the Democrats continue to bar domestic production and laid off 50,000 American workers for "environmental" reasons, the Republicans are always strengthening or relations with foreign producers. All the while our president ensures us China's growth is a positive thing. Foreign oil owns officials in both parties. We'd probably agree on more then you realize.
@DAGDAsRevenge Reagan was a joke. I would not advocate ending unions, at least not private sector unions. There needs to be more public transparency into how dealings with elected officials takes place, on both ends. A greedy union can finish a company and destroy/outsource jobs just as easy as a greedy company executive. I do care about America, that's why I don't want to see it ended by people siding with the "worker" on blind rhetoric, most American workers aren't unionized btw...
@ars62287 i know this is old and you are right most Americans are not unionized. if you look at the economy of our country when more Americans were unionized we as a whole were doing much better than now.
@DAGDAsRevenge Look man, I've worked with unions, both private and public sec, people need to be fairly compensated, but when unions like the UAW demand $65/hr for low skill labor this causes a giant gap in economic wages, resulting in outsourcing/massive lay-offs, and inefficiencies for the company to compete... which in return, results into everyone being fucked. Collective bargaining is fine to an extent, otherwise greed, whether corporate or union ends it all...
@DAGDAsRevenge You're right that unions helped to bring about these rights we all enjoy today. The problem lies with unions that lobby to corrupt officials and tilt the legislation too far in their direction. Or in the case of public sector (Government) unions who blatantly abuse and misuse collective bargaining with officials they help to elect to further the wealth gap between themselves and the more common, lower-paid/over-taxed American worker who endures the layoffs due to their greed.
@DAGDAsRevenge Less expensive labor results in lower cost of end product. Capitalism has a way of balancing its self out. Laws protecting worker safety and minimum wage laws protect workers rights. When these labor unions force workers to join and pay dues, the funds are used in near and often illegal deals with corrupt officials to help get them elected with lies to the public, in return the officials help to pass union friendly laws that destroy profitable business and hurt the economy.
this video seems like propaganda, So if your saying we cut auto workers pay down to minimum wage and have the taxpayers pay for their health care since they wont be able to do it themselves Ford will shut down their plants where they pay workers 50 cents to a dollar an hour and pay Americans 7.25? It seems unions had nothing to do with shipping jobs overseas. If I were ford I would have done it anyways 7.25 and 15.00 is the same thing when compared to 1 dollar an hour, too much.
I think the pic of the slums at the beginning of the video, says it all. What they don't tell you is what these workers are being paid, what there living conditions and benefits are, and what happens to them if they speak out. This is what is called a propaganda film. It is a well produced lie, and a distortion of reality.
If that is your idea life. Them I'm sorry, but we could never see to eye to eye.
I understand the point of unions *Many* years ago. However, in today's world they simply are not needed. I go to work everyday, learn something, and work till I go home. Unions say to people "Get the job of picking up trash for $11hr, Then We'll get you more than the owner can pay, Because picking up trash is *So* demanding and dangerous". While we that *Do* work are watching the economy and America fall around us.
Firing people when they want, because they want is stupid. Though I myself find about 85% of the world to be mildly educated (at best). I hardly believe one of the biggest car makers in the world are Firing people to get their shits-and-giggles.
Further more, the "benefits" of most union workers are absurd. Teachers that sexually assault kids can't be fired without lengthy, costly, steps.Incompetent people sit on 40G While leaders with American dreams are forced to feed them.
@jamen256 Your logic argues more unions will help the US economy, not hurt it. This is because union representation in Brazil is over 60%. The automotive industry in Bahia has even higher rates. The market has rewarded indeed.
Since we agree, let's try to repeal Taft-Hartley. For a more democratic work force. Together.
Why would Ford build a plant in Brazil. Because there are no unions and they can treat workers any way they feel like and pay them shit wages and fire them whenever they want to just like in communist China.
Chrysler and Chevy had to be bailed out because of the unions, bottom line. The market rewards success and punishes failure, and the Unions try to turn that upside down and it doesnt work.
@jamen256 Your logic argues more unions will help the US economy, not hurt it. This is because union representation in Brazil is over 60%. The automotive industry in Bahia has even higher rates. The market has rewarded indeed.

Unions are corrupt to the core, particularly the UAW. Unions are married to the dispicable Democratic party. They care nothing about the future or survival of this great USA. Needless to say, I always attempt to buy non union products, since I dispise unions almost as much as Democrats!
Thanks to UNIONS , America had a Thriving middle class. Now because of GOP Encouraged Outsoucing paid for , by the US Taxpayer, we're clearly headed for a Two Class System, the elite and peasents
How are you doing ??? Unions in America are almost gone. About 8 to 10% in the private sector. A major decrease since the end of WW2. Are your wages up or down ??? How about those benifits ??? Do you still have any ?? Do you listen to the news and the reports about the rich getting richer and the CEOs making more money than God ??? Do your kids get out of school with massive debt and then have to take a low wage job ?? How are you doing ???
If I was President, I would ban all unions, declare them to be terrorist groups, then hit them with both RICO and the Patriot Act, then execute all their members and supporters or send them to Gitmo, and seize all their assets and property.
I would also repeal all labor and environmental laws and other business regulations and taxes, including osha, the epa, and the labor relations board. Those are all reasons our jobs are flying overseas.
The only reason the auto workers have decent health care and a living wage is the unions. The reason for the bail out is the average working American can't afford to buy a new car and gas price went to bowed the economy almost to the breaking point in the past two years.
I am not for unions, nor am I for American companies moving to foreign countries and depriving Americans of jobs and then expecting taxpayers to bail them out! Henry Ford would be outraged! My husband has a 6-year college degree in pharmacy and is paid less with fewer benefits than an assembly-line worker with a GED in a Ford plant. Now, where is the incentive? No wonder we lack scientists/engineers. Pay should be commensurate to what you do, not dictated by unions buying off politicians.
**UNIONS WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US. WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE NEEDED TO KEEP THE COMPANY HONEST. WELL...I GUESS YOU COULD SAY..."WE DON'T NEED A UNION"..WELL THAT WOULD BE FINE IF ALL COMPANIES WERE HONEST......BUT ALL COMPANIES ARE NOT HONEST.........AND THE ONLY WAY TO INSURE THAT THE WORKERS ARE NOT .....RIPPED OFF ...IS TO HAVE A UNION....................."
Some unions aren't that bad. They are highly essential for shit like construction and Aircraft Manufacturing. But when it comes to Automotive. There isn't really a need for them. Especially when half the shit is automated to. It's not even back breaking anymore really and there is no damn need to pay workers such a high ass amount.
@EpiDemic117 buddy i can tell you havnt been in a plant.try jumpping in and out a car 587 times a day .or lifting 12 pound cat pipe over your head 587 times a day.
@AJstar9 For what caterpillar? I'm talking about automotive. Workers that work for Toyota, Nissan, and Honda get payed just fine with benefits health insurance and everything. The difference between that and say Ford is that they don't get as much of a large sum. But Honda hasn't laid off any employees due to corporate I wasn't saying that there shouldn't be unions. I'm just saying that there really isn't that MUCH of a need. For other shit like heavy equipment manufacturing and whatnot. Totally
@AJstar9 And don't be trippin and start calling me a Anti union. I'm for unions. In fact I'm joining one next week. I'm just saying that like everything else in this world. There are good unions and bad unions. And you need to use the right type of labor for certain jobs.
But still even if i were working in a toyota or Honda plant getting payed more than 20 an hour with medical. You bet I'd be thankful for what I'm getting. it's a lot better than what i currently make.
unions did have a place in America at one point. Now they are useless and mostly corrupt. I lived in Michigan in the 80's and those fat fucks did nothing to deserve what they got.
@bluenickels Neither did the CEOs!!!! I have lived in Michigan all my life and I can tell u that a world without Unions is NOT the answer! Yes, there was corruption in the union but don't ignore corporate corruption! And even if there were "fat fucks" who "did nothing"....I would rather THAT happen then corporate America be in total control as they are today!
Everyone here is complaining about outsourcing! Companies are trying to make money, too! When the lazy UAW worker gets paid way too much for doing way too little, can you blame a company for outsourcing? They're not in the business of giving money away to people who are lazy. Companies are in business to make money, not give it away...
America needs to wake up. When people start wanting to actually work for a reasonable wage (from both sides of the argument), jobs will return.
Have you ever been in a place where a team of union workers are doing the same job next to a team of non-union workers? I have. The team of non-union workers completed the same exact task weeks before the team of union workers completed it.
A reasonable wage is definitely over minimum wage, but UAW workers get paid upwards of $80/ hour! In a highly automated system like the assembly line in most, if not all, vehicle assembly plants, $80 per hour is very very steep.
Yes, it is management's exclusive decision on how much a worker is worth. It is how much that worker's output is worth to a company. That's how businesses work...
The government sure as heck shouldn't have a decision on how much a worker is worth! They don't have the familiarity with the job that management does.
@pspork I KNOW AT MY PLANT UAW HAS TALK THE COMPANY INTO BRING BACK ALOT OF WORK THATS BEEN OUT SOURCE FOR MANY YEARS.LIKE THE IP LINE THATS 37 MORE JOBS PLUS THEY ARE TRYING TO GET THE SEAT LINE BACK.
HHHMMMM lets see not built in usa =less employees ,less taxes paid ,less total products purchased buy the unemployed auto worker, possible foreclosure on home,,maybe even kids going hungry, possible death because no health care..WAKE UP AMERICA AND STOP OUTSOURCING.....
haha This comment is just plain ignorant. Please look at the comment I just posted. Also, please wake up. You think you're helping, but you're just hurting the country as a whole. Please research into this a little bit before you speak out...
@kittycatback My husband and I were UAW 4 12 yrs and we worked our asses off! This UAW rhetoric only helps corporate elitists! Do u know that there's discrimination against UAW workers. I was told by more than one potential employer that ex-UAW are frowned upon and in my current job, I was told not to even mention the word "union". There were those who used the union 4 wrong reasons but there were also PLENTY who didN'T and there will b PLENTY who will have NO safety net w/out unions!
Supporting Ford for shipping American Jobs out of the country. How nice, they have figured out a way to lower their costs while workers in the USA go without jobs. Why should I buy an American Car if it isn't made in America?
FORD failed because their cars suck. Nobody wants to drive a Ford anymore...they have too much competition with Honda, Toyota and now Hyundai. If Ford listened to what most people were telling them to do long time ago which was smaller, fuel efficient vehicles they could be top sellers today. After all Ford sucky vehicles I've driven which I've always have had problems with I will never drive another one again.
@KEBokeh boy was you wrong ford is doing great selling more and making more than toyota so for this year .plus won both jd power car and truck of the year
@AJstar9 It's called "politics" man...awards me jack shit! I will NEVER buy another American made vehicle and that's coming from a 100% American made guy! U.S. designs suck, the engineering sucks....everything falls apart within two years time....crap!
@KEBokeh WELL FORD IS BUILDING BETTER CARS THAN TOYOTA NOW.THATS WHY FORD IS DOING ALOT BETTER OVER SEAS TO.FORGET THE AWARDS FORD IS SELLING MORE CARS AND MAKING MORE PROFIT.PLUS THE FIRST CAR WITH 300 HP THAT GETS 31MPG WITH THE NEW MUSTANG V6.HEARED TOYOTA TRUCKS JUST GOT A RECALL BECAUSE OF RUSTED FRAMES-NOW THATS CHEAP METAL
@AJstar9 "FORD IS BUILDING BETTER CARS THAN TOYOTA NOW"
We can't physically confirm or deny that. Because in many different categories of cars. One maker will do better than the other and it's more down to the individuals preference. Toyota has kinda slipped a bit in quality but some of the newer ones have done more than make up for that. I saw a couple new ones today and the fit and finish is very good on them. interior is decent.
@AJstar9 "300 HP THAT GETS 31MPG" That's an estimate but in real road conditions. Lets just be straight and honest. You aren't going to get that out of a car that has
"300HP". Most of these claims are on the engine it's self. But when it comes to being that amount of power being put to the wheels you'll get something like 255-270 HP. and an average of 23-26MPG.
If manufactures don't provide enough jobs, as a result of complex machines or robots subsituting employees, then we will never be able to have a self sustaining economy which will lead to more poverty which will the'n compell people to commit "criminal activities" out of desperation to survive. More poverty=more crime=more "ghettos."
The Honda plant here in Ohio is not union, yet they are doing so much better despite low car sales in the economy. They don't have to let some one go because they changed a light bulb and thus took away the job of a union member. Nor do they have to pay over time of senior members because junior members were offered over time. The UAW tries to go there every year and every year they get turned away.
@ssgmezar : I'm a UAW worker, and I'm glad that your plant is doing good during these hard economic times.
In my union shop, O.T. is also offered to both young & older workers, on a fair basis; based on seniority, & then is spread out to give all workers O.T. hours.
Your workforce is starting to have higher seniority workers since your plant opened, circa 1982. What do you think will happen to them when they earn their right to retire?
As a business major, I can tell you that unions were a necessity and we owe them all the benefits that we currently enjoys. However, my position is that they, hurt you more then they help today. One part is that employers have come to realize their errors They realize that they have to take care of their workforce. This is why I brought up the case with Honda. They offer so many benefits that anytime UAW tries to move in, they lose miserably. (to be continued)
My wife used to belong to a union and admits just how corrupt and unfair they were. She mentions how they played favoritism and how they strong armed the company. She states that they kept lazy people from getting fired. At her current job, they tried unionizing and she voted against it. A similar agency a voted yes. A couple weeks ago they denied a wage cut that equaled about $50 a month. 30 of them were laid off as a result. My wifes agency agreed to take 1 day off w/ no a month.
My uncle had a similar situation. His union went on strike years ago because the company lowered benefits because of financial woes. The company locked out the union and the strike fell. My uncle never recovered. He lost his home. Spent years looking for other employment and only found it when they re-located. He spent the rest of his days cursing the union. If he hadn't belonged to a union, he would have taken the company's offer. It would have amounted to about $50 less per month.
My father in law works at Honda, he plans to retire next year. As far as I know, he will continue to receive a majority of his benefits along with an 80% pension. Some of his co-workers have retired and already receive this. If for some reason this changes, I will let you know.
I previously typed this in word because I used some information from previous term papers. I had to trim them in order to fit under the minimum word count. I apologize for any poor grammar.
@ssgmezar IF YOUR A BUSINESS MAJOR IM SURE YOU KNOW HONDA WOULDNT BE GIVING SO MANY BENFITS .IF THEY WASNT A UAW .THEY HAVE TO GIVE GREAT WAGES AND BEEFITS TO KEEP THE UAW OUT.
@solidarity4 ITS SAD THAT PEOPLE DONT UNSTAND THEY ARE CUTTING THERE OWN SELFS.ITS SAD HOW WRONG PEOPLE ARE,LIKE THINKING ARE CARS ARE HIGHER PRICE OR NOT AS GOOD.PEOPLE WONT EVEN CHECK.THIS ONE GUY TOLD ME I MADE $80 A HOUR BECAUSE GLENN BECK SAID I NEED.USA IS IN BAD SHAPE BECAUSE PEOPLE LET OTHERS DO THERE THINKING
hmmm yea i guess we could get rid of labor unions to get more jobs back to the US .... i mean whats so bad about not making shit for wages and living in little huts and not having any retirement right>?

UAW = U Aren't Working
kittycatback 2 years ago 3
@kittycatback they work very hard
AJstar9 1 year ago

@ElwynMaximus THE CARS MADE IN THIS VERY ARE SOLD OUT SIDE THE USA .THEY ARE NOT SHIPPING THEM HERE

KEBokeh 2 years ago
@KEBokeh boy was you wrong ford is doing great selling more and making more than toyota so for this year .plus won both jd power car and truck of the year

KEBokeh 1 year ago
AJstar9 1 year ago

The UAW tries to go there every year and every year they get turned away.
ssgmezar 2 years ago
@ssgmezar : I'm a UAW worker, and I'm glad that your plant is doing good during these hard economic times.
In my union shop, O.T. is also offered to both young & older workers, on a fair basis; based on seniority, & then is spread out to give all workers O.T. hours.
Your workforce is starting to have higher seniority workers since your plant opened, circa 1982. What do you think will happen to them when they earn their right to retire?
Remember, I'm not your foe; just a fellow worker.
