I believe the logo was released in 1999 at the time that Dolby Digital surround EX (or 'Dolby sex' as it is known to projectionists) was launched with the release of the phantom menace. Although it is possible that it existed before that time...

Actually Dolby gives out these trailers if you ask them, (for free!) and other advertising materials. You do have to be a movie theatre though.

Yeah. This aurora logo is starting to show in cinemas and DVDs. But not all the time but sometimes.
