I LOVED this show as kid! All of my school freinds did as well.
I had the Thermos brand metal lunchbox!
The only thing I remember of it, was that the front of the lunchbox had the scene where the kid gets his head stuck between the vertical metal bars of a metal fence.

BTW, the ladies (and girls) of the day did go a bit ga-ga over Randy Mantooth! He was of native American heritage, if my memory serves.
Hello, I watch Emergency! (Also a huge fan of the show)back in the early 1970's and this is a very good tribute video and really nice...Job well done!!
If you have a subscription to Netflix ($8.99), and an Internet connection, you can watch as many episodes of Emergency as you like. If you get the Roku player ($99) you can stream the episodes off the Web and into your TV set.
i like to see anniversary show as well, but two of the main cast members have passed on (Bobby Troupe and Julie London). I have five seasons on dvd and hope the sixth season is released in 2010 along with the movies. I like the last episode where they are promoted to captain and have flashbacks to various episodes, like the snakebite, etc. It was a classic fire department show. The only other show that comes close to emergency is third watch.
Man....I love Emergency when I was kid but no captioned by then. When I get DVD with captioned I am definetely going to watch it. Amazing technology and Los Angeles have changed so much.
Lactated Ringer's Solution is often used for fluid resuscitation after a blood loss due to trauma, surgery, or a burn injury. Previously, it was used to induce urine output in patients with renal failure. More modernly used is a normal saline bolus.
ADKINS25086, I've been told surgeons prefer Ringer's while internists prefere normal saline. It seems to be one of those "this is what we were taught so this is what we order" differences between surgery and internal medicine.
Great show! Hadn't heard this theme song since the last time I watched the show! Scary thought! : o Show's how old I'm getting! Anyone know if there's an DVD's out there with old episodes from the show, or here on YT?
I loved that show when I was a kid. Got to meet both Kevin Tighe and Randy Mantooth at a firefighter's parade in Ellsworth Maine when I was about 8. Thought it was the greatest day of my life.
lol...my father in law (retired fire fighter) would always get pissed when my wife or I mentioned that we liked this show as kids, he'd say "If there was any truth to that friggin show Los Angles county would have been declared a disaster area".
...Nonetheless this show is what brought the term "paramedics" to the American public, not to mention the idea of "shocking" someones heart back to normal rhythm -as kids we'd rub can bottoms together, scream "clear!" and shock the dead patient alive.
this great and this show start a new wave in usa and other place realy show how hard esm work realy was and frie work as well jack webb was the realy push for realy thing i think that what bring the realy tv show of today he was the frist to put realy thing on tv today tv is realy thank to jack webb and what he start yaers going
I like how Kelly Brackett MD would give an IV-D5W to EVERY patient for EVERY condition. YOu could come into Rampart with Bad breath or hemmorids & he'd have U hooked up to an IV-D5w before he could get a glimpse up Julie London's dress. :)
No, sorry, that was Mike Stoker. He was hired as a tech consultant for the show. He could also drive the truck, and he had a SAG card, so he just fit in perfectly. He retired from the LA County FD in 1996 as a captain. (LA County & LA City FD's are not the same, and somewhat rivals)
This job I had we used to book Mantooth in focus groups, I told a buddy of mine to say "KMG-365" to see what he would say, and he was like groaning and 'yeah, yeah'. People come up to him on the street and say it. I always win 'Trivial Pursuit' usually on the strength of that question alone, they don't even have to finish the question: "What did they say on the TV show 'Emergency' when..." and I would blurt out "KMG-365!!" and they are palming the card: "can you see the answer or something?"
Some of the funniest moments are with Chet and the basset hound.
Julie London is just gorgeous with an incredibly sexy voice.
Johny's crazy Hollywood schemes or business schemes were always a laugh too.
Great show for the whole family. During the summer I would actually come inside to watch it from 8 to 9, then go back out till 10 or 11. Can kids even do that anymore?

This was the coolest show back then. Closest to real drama. It showed fake blood. It always had interesting and exciting emergencies! Wasn't there an episode where a snake crawled into a sleeping bag with a guy sleeping in it? They pulled back the bag and sprayed it with a fire extinguisher. Cool.
this is a major throw-back. i remember [vaguely] when my gradmother bought me the Emergency! toy set for christmas one year. would anyone happen to know the year the set was released? of course i dont have it anymore, and have many times regretted it. i was a destructive kid, and grandma died in '80 i think. anyone with info about the set, please send it to my fatsadie account. thatks!!
Hello fatsadie, I don't remember the toy set but one year my brother and I got the Emergency! board game for Christmas. I can't remember which year but it had to be in the late 70's/early 80's. I still have the game and now my 11 year old son enjoys playing it. Oh, you might try checking out eBay to see if anyone has the toy set for sale. :o)
Hello photorams65, Randy had roles in 4 different soap operas. They were: 1. Alex Masters in Loving, 2. Richard Halifax in General Hospital, 3. Hal Munson in As The World Turns and 4. Kirk Harmon in One Life To Live. :o)
I remember this show growing up. I was always creeped out by the theme music and the LA paramedic badge with the hand and stuff. Good memories either way.
Ha, ha, no problem. It is great to see all these things we watched as kids, remind you of good times when everything was simpler...I guess. Keep on the great videos, thanks!
Awesome vid!!!!! I'm 19 now, but I remember when my uncle put the reruns on TV Land on 10 years ago. Loved it then, still love it now. I've looked into different professions, but next week I'm going to talk to an advisor at the university to look into the emergency medicine program. I want to go into health care, but I'm not sure what part, so maybe being a paramedic is that part of the health care field I want to do. Looking forward to January 20, 2009 when season 5 comes out on DVD.
The only people I can find are Robert Fuller, Kevin Tighe, Randolph Mantooth, and Mike Stoker still alive. Stoker retired from LAcFD as a Captain. His station was ST106 out of Rolling Hills. That was the station originally planned for Station 51.
Hello RogaDanar523, I'm pretty sure Marco Lopez, Tim Donnelly and Ron Pinkard are still alive. I will have to do a search when I get the chance to see if I can verify it. Thanks for stopping by! :o)
Thank you for posting this. I was 13 when this program was aired. I was glued to the T.V., every Saturday, Ch 4, 8:00 pm. While watching this series, I decided I was going to move to L.A. from N.Y. to become a paramedic. I did so @ 18. I didn't become a Paramedic, but I did become a trauma EMT in a trauma center. I love my job!
Hello LICHBKLYN, Great job in fulfilling your dream! Thank you for stopping by to watch my video and to leave a message. It's greatly appreciated!! :o)
What is stranger, Jack Webb ( Joe Friday from Dragnet)was the producer, AND Julie Londons ex-husband. The station they ran out of was actually LACOFD STA 126, now named the R.A. Cinader station, for the executive producer of the show. Eng 51 was up at yosemite park for a number of years too
I'm curious. . .who - other than Randolph Mantooth - is still around from the original cast? I know that Julie London died as did Bobby Troup. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but were'nt Julie and Bobby husband and wife in real life?
Hello wlittle, Yes, Julie London and Bobby Troup were married. As far as I know the rest of the cast is still alive. Does anyone else know if this is correct? Thanks for stopping by. It's greatly appreciated!! :o)
Julie London was actually Jack Webb's ex-wife, but he had a good enough relationship with her and her husband Bobby Troup, that he worked with them on the show.
And I believe IluvBenJoe is right--everyone else from the cast is still with us.
This was also a favorite of mine at an early age 6 or 7yrs old. I don't remember the opening music sounding like that, kinda schizo. Kevin Tighe. From Roadhouse? Is that the same guy? Thanks.
Hello Highport5, I don't know if this Kevin Tighe is the same one from Roadhouse or not. Maybe you could do a quick search on the net and see. Thanks for stopping by. :o)
As a medical student, I had to work in the er in a big big city hospital and part of on call was answering these calls, i had to sleep next to the radio, this is why i still suffer from disrupted sleep. I used to watch this show with my dad all the time way back when
Hello Engine438, Thanks for taking time to watch my video and to leave a message. It's greatly appreciated! By the way, you are very to have had the chance to meet Randy. He was one of my favorites. :o)
I used to watch this program every Saturday night when I was little. In 1975 when I was 10, my parents and I toured Universal Studios and watched a fake screen test of the show. Dad was chosen as a "rubbernecker" in the episode where a cop gets shot and they teargas the gunman out of a building. We had that film and soundtrack for many years. I also had my photo taken at the wheel of the model squad car (Squad 41, instead of 51). You can just make out the top of my head in the photo. LOL!!
Hello Daisyno2, You're right...Michael isn't in my video. I didn't have any pictures of him so didn't include him. If I ever get some pictures of him I might make an updated video so I can include him. Thanks for stopping by! :o)
Kevin Tighe has gone on to be a very good actor. He is a great "bad guy" in a movie called Matewan about the early union forming days of the coal mines.
Thanks for posting this...my dad was a fireman when we were growing up in California in the 70's and never missed an episode...I even had the lunchbox...lol
Hey!! Whoever gave a negative rating to what mcdonchris said should be ashamed of themselves!!!! What was said was a nice comment and should not have been rated badly. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!! :o(
70's gems are what made me want a career in the medical field....and here I am LOL. I'd love to see EMERGENCY again and Medical Center would be good too.
I remember when I was a kid going to elementry school. I would try and pretend I was sick so I could stay home and watch emergency... This show, CHIPS, Magnum PI were all my favorites...
My son as a todler was facinated to the point he imitated the siren. At the old Crystal Beach Amusment park, They had those kiddie rides., He knew what the firetruck was and got in. It was trying to get him out after the ride was the problem., It was a slow day for the park overcast light rains. The ride operator said its ok leave him in it. My wife and i sat there for an hour until he ran out of steam. Thanks for posting man, Good memorys best of times.
Hello cycimian, that is a cute story about your son. Thanks for sharing it with us! Also thank you for taking time to watch my video. It's greatly appreciated!! :o)
I don't have cable anymore. But when I went to visit my mother, who has cable, I think it was TV Land or Nickelodeon that had an Emergency! marathon. I didn't move for hours!
Of course, the most predictable part of the show was the structure fire 45 minutes into the show. A show that will still get air time decades from now.
It's interesting atarist, i can't remember what I ate for lunch two days ago and yet I can remember some of the phrases commonly used:KMG365, he's throwing PVC's, start an IV with ringers lactate/D5W, Squad 51 responding/available ...I could go on. You get the idea!
Great video lluvBenJoe! Have you met any of the actors from this show?
Hello gowalkingathinline, I'm glad you like my video. No, I haven't been fortunate enough to meet any of the actors. I would love to meet Randy Mantooh and Robert Fuller but know that won't happen. Anywya, thanks for taking time to watch and to leave a message. It's greatly appreciated!! :o)
Oh my god, I haven't seen this show in 30 years yet I can remember "start an IV with D5W and Ringers Lactate." I can't, however, remember what I did at work yesterday...
Ever since I was a little boy in the 70's i watched this everyday. also, I became a paramedic right out of highschool in which i still am today. It was all because of this show.
Hello paramedic6801, I'm glad this show helped you decide to be a paramedic. Let me say 'thank you' for all the hard work you do on a daily basis. You are truly a hero. Thanks for taking time to watch my video and to leave a message. It's greatly appreciated!! :o)
This was on before or after Adam 12, I loved them to death & the theme songs were well engraved in my head, but I remember before I quite watching them, how tired I finally became of the constant sirens.
What am I, like 40 something years old now, and I can still remember how they would sign off after they received a call at the station: "Squad 51 KMG365". Seems like yesterday.
Hello gatortater97, Yes, the name of the hospital was Rampart and the head nurse was named Dixie. Thanks for taking time to watch my video and to leave a message. It's greatly appreciated!! :o)
I enjoyed this show greatly as a kid. Gage and Desoto were heroes that I looked up to then. Kevin Tighe has appeared on various movies and tv shows over the years. Anyone know what's become of Bobby Troup-Julie London (married to each other)? Also Ron Pinkard and Robert Fuller?
Hello ACLTony, Bobby Troup passed away on February 7, 1999 and Julie London passed away on October 18, 2000. I'm not sure what Ron and Robert are up to these days. Does anyone else know?
The thing I remember most was that it did not matter if the patient had a heart attack, car wreck, pregnant, fell off a cliff plane crash, paper cutor hemmorids....They all got the SAME thing...An IV of D-5w TKO....Thanks so much for posting this.
This show ruined my life! I've been a Paramedic for 20 years because I wanted to be like John Gauge.. I just got the first 4 seasons (I think its 4) in a box set. I sat down when I got them and watched all 4 DVDs (7 or so episodes on each) back to back! As a teenager I bought a Red Dodge utility truck and set it up to look like squad 51...
What a trip down memory lane! Thanks for posting the vid!
Hello specialopmedic, Thanks for sharing your memories with us! It's interesting finding out how this show influnced people. Thank you for taking time to watch and to leave a message. It's greatly appreciated!! :o)
This show ruined my life! I've been a paramedic for 20 years now all because I wanted to be John Gauge! I got the box set with the first (I think 4) seasons on it! I sat down and watched them all from start to finish.. When I was a teenager I built my Dodge Utility truck to look like squad 51. I also have the kit that came with the lunch box, SCBA, Mask, Helmet and a vinyl record with a show on both sides...
i was into this show back in the late 70s when I was only in kindergarten. I remembered drawing the fire engine trucks in my coloring book and coloring the whole page red cause the inside of Station 51 had red bricks & stuff. I also wanted to become like Gage & DeSoto when I grew up but ended up like Dr Brackett instead. But not in an emergency setting, more like Pediatrics. Thanks for sharing!

Randolph Mantooth was in a soap opera about 10 years ago. I don't remember which one though. Did you know that Julie London (who played the nurse) was a famous singer back in the 50's? and she's married to Bobby Troup, who played the doctor on the show). Kevin Tighe was in a few movies, and did a radio show in San Diego for awhile. I'm a bit of a trivia nut! I'm also a Streisand and Bea Arthur fan, too!!!
Hello yentl50. Thanks for sharing your trivia with us! Randy has been on several soap operas throught he years. They are: Loving (Alex Masters), General Hospital (Richard Halifax), As The World Turns (Hal Munson) and One Life to Live (Kirk Harman). Thanks for taking time to watch my video and to leave a message. It's greatly appreciated!! :o)
The name of the soap opera was Loving. He played a character by the name of Alex Masters. He was the love interest of Ava Rescott Alden, who was nothing but an Erica Cane clone.

this does bring back the memories! Randy Mantooth was later in a daytime soap opera. Anyone remember?
photorams65 3 years ago
Hello photorams65, Randy had roles in 4 different soap operas. They were: 1. Alex Masters in Loving, 2. Richard Halifax in General Hospital, 3. Hal Munson in As The World Turns and 4. Kirk Harmon in One Life To Live. :o)

What is stranger, Jack Webb ( Joe Friday from Dragnet)was the producer, AND Julie Londons ex-husband. The station they ran out of was actually LACOFD STA 126, now named the R.A. Cinader station, for the executive producer of the show. Eng 51 was up at yosemite park for a number of years too
gdsoucy 3 years ago
I'm curious. . .who - other than Randolph Mantooth - is still around from the original cast? I know that Julie London died as did Bobby Troup. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but were'nt Julie and Bobby husband and wife in real life?
wlittle 3 years ago
Hello wlittle, Yes, Julie London and Bobby Troup were married. As far as I know the rest of the cast is still alive. Does anyone else know if this is correct? Thanks for stopping by. It's greatly appreciated!! :o)
IluvBenJoe 3 years ago

Kevin Tighe also appeared in Another 48HRS, as the Internal Affairs officer that was investigating Nick Nolte's character.

He also guest-starred a few times on ER in 1996, as a policeman close to retirement.
Methinks he was trying to put the moves on Nurse Hathaway, BTW...

LOL!!

Thanks for posting the vid!

i was into this show back in the late 70s when I was only in kindergarten.
