  • 7:29 - Pat on shoulder fail.

  • 245 jerk was good. wasnt a press out

  • Im like really struggling with dropping and getting under the bar ..i cant seem to figure it out

  • I get the feeling of SHIT When I don't get it the first time then I'm super nervous when I go to try it again and then I get it and i get this awesome feeling in my stomach!! lol

  • Press out at 245lbs, no lift.

  • I wish he could coach me for 2 hours...amazing.

  • My gf does this?0.o....... She lifts up only 100lb though.

  • he snatched 225 at 2011 crossfit games

  • i wish i had a strength coach

  • LOVE the coach

  • great coach!

  • Body weight 170-175lbs. Clean and jerk 245lbs. Dead lift 415lbs. Squat 355lbs. Bench press 295lbs. Standing shoulder press 195lbs.

  • @lawlorjustin so you're not a beast?

  • @lawlorjustin

    Fuckin cool.

  • Greatest feeling ever when you're going for a record and you fail and feel all shitty and nervous about trying it again but then end up succeeding right after that. Pure ecstasy! Congrats

  • This motivates me

  • Is it safe to try this without common sense?

  • outstanding athlete. anyone that even tries to disagree is a moron

  • Every now and then I see people bouncing the weight off their thigs when pulling it up. Is it just a different technique or is it considered cheating/wrong?

  • @kosseh

You shouldn't be hitting the weight on your thights to get the lift.

  • Not often you see a coach that doesn't pussyfoot - you train hard and if you don't you get told off.

  • cross fit is fucking horrible. Bad technique shown here. He didnt even use his hips.i saw another video with corss fit trainers coaching some people and they all had horrible technique. remember assholes Technique>weight.

  • Good video.

  • I wish I had someone to coach me like that instead of having to teach myself from YouTube videos with 40kg. Mind you, crossfit is a cult.

  • I do my best to act above my age, haha. Enjoy your day sir!

  • he should not put his feet so close at the end

  • Awesome !!!!!!

  • Droppng it isn't good for the weights

  • @bzrett lol are you being serious?

  • clean

    hiiaaaaaaaaa

  • real good job and great coach :)

  • that man could have been a good pokemon trainer

  • Dude... I HATE when people do a full clean with 135; you shouldn't even need to bend your knees.

  • @ajwazhere

yeah, it's not like it's good practice to drill the movement into your memory nor is it good to refresh it and warm up in the warm up...

  • @fLKommotioN I would disagree. I learned my cleans starting only with light weight, catching it as high as possible, and perfecting it. Slowly but surely I added more weight causing the pull to be slower and the catch to be lower. Your body will naturally learn how low you must pull under to catch any weight. Catching 135 at the top and front squatting is not even close to the same as catching 310 at the absolute lowest point possible to fit under. This is stupid.

  • @ajwazhere

you're right, training movements is stupid. muscle memory serves no purpose in weightlifting, and properly performing the motion all the time is bad habit.

  • @fLKommotioN Full squat cleaning is not proper motion when you're dealing with 135 (unless of course it is within 80-100% of your max... lol).Power cleaning then full squatting is just that; two separate lifts. A proper power clean usually demonstrates at least a bar speed of 2m/s which is what is desired in this lift. Light weights teach explosiveness in bar speed. Heavier weights challenge the explosiveness to see how high you can catch it. Full squatting after a low weight clean is not ideal

  • @fLKommotioN However we must also recognize a few things. 1) This is crossfit. 2) Crossfit usually has a poor proper technique to member ratio. 3) This guy has bad technique. 4) Therefore I am not surprised in the least that he full squats an unneeded weight at an unneeded time.

  • @ajwazhere

    hahahahaa

i just watched the video, oh my god you're actually so right. that was the most retarded motion ever. i am saying that you should work on catching your cleans low in warm up, not doing the power clean and then doing a full squat for no reason. Obviously, explosiveness is important, but i would say that training that in warm-up is unnecessary, as, personally, i do not have the ability to train explosively for very many reps.

  • @fLKommotioN Hey, we can't all be freaks like Dimas. I'm usually the same way. I can pull 245x4 power hang cleans with stupid speed, but when I get up to around 270 I get a quick pull maybe once, then they others are caught at or below parallel with me shitting my pants on the last. It's a complicated debate in which one may recommend a low catch during warm-ups. I would say a low catch is good... weight permitting. It has to be a natural low catch, not something you want to sink purposely for.

  • @fLKommotioN While sinking low and training the bounce is good, it's preferably trained at higher weights to increase flexibility and feel a more powerful elastic snap back up; you really can't achieve this with lower weight. From my experience in weightlifting and in athletics, I know that lower weights help achieve faster performances. For example lower weight hammer teaches faster spin; lower weight javelin teaches faster arm-strike...etc. Nonetheless low weight is very important to bar speed

  • @ajwazhere

fair enough, it's nice to see an intelligent and reasonable stance expressed considerately.

  • he needs collars on the bar so the weights dont slide

  • he was my weight coach in high school, his son is in the olympics

  • Comment removed

  • that is my high school gym teacher

  • i found this very inspirational! I've just started to learn snatch and CJ : )

and i learned a lot from this vid

  • awesome job

  • I cheer'd when he got the 245 lol. He really pulled it together, even the jerk was much better!

  • I believe that most crossfitters have shit olympic lifting techinique, and also bastardize these movements. But this guy wasnt doing the oly lifts all that bad

  • "You've gota be SHITTIN me!"

  • 160lb? tank.

  • I wish we had bumpers in my gym

  • Only if they lit those plates on fire would this sport be cool.

  • your going to SNAP SOME SHIT UP !!!!!!!!

  • @louisthewindmillmill LOLL Hogde twinsss

  • Stupid ass exercise to snap some shit up

  • When shit goes wrong with this lift, you'll break your neck.

  • 0:58 "just clean it, jerk it, and let me watch it" WTF!!?!?!

  • Mike Burgener has got to be one of my favorite coaches hands down

  • Nice drive on the 245lb. I wish I had those adistars too.

  • fuck doing this in the gym.

  • this sport is stupid .

  • This coach is more strict than my coach at my school, but definitely better as well. He tells him the same things my coach tells me.

  • This Oly coach is awesome!

  • What a stupidly dangerous exercise. I mean wtf, what if he drops it?

  • @M1thotyn

    moron.

  • @Hopeswilldie Yes, if he drops it you WILL be a moron. Now somebody (me) must write a petition to our government to get this silly dangerous behavior banned.

  • @M1thotyn

write a petition to get banned olympic weightlifting at all, haha. And then write a petition against god. And maybe against the fact that water is wet.

  • @Hopeswilldie This isn't a spectator sport like football. Give me one injured kid in a wheelchair and a TV journalist and I will get your silly little weight-over-head lifting thing banned. Just give me those two things.

  • @M1thotyn

just the fact itself that weightlifting is not banned yet (cuz there was no injured kid which u mentioned) proves that CJ and weightlifting in general is not nearly as dangerous as u claimed. So stfu.

  • @M1thotyn You're not gonna get an injured kid in a wheelchair because the people who do these sports aren't morons.

  • @M1thotyn why does the world have to be filled with retards like you? DUURRRR WHAT IF YOU DROP IT ON YOUR HEAD?!?! OMFG maybe you should STEP FORWARD OR BACKWARD! dumbass...

  • YOU MUST BE AGRESSIVE WITH THOSE ELBOWS!!!! "yes, coach" . good attitude.

  • what a beast

  • its hard to agree with putting clients with that wide of a grip when they are snatching with that heavy of weight unless they are competitive olympic lifters... Its just a dangerous movement for the shoulders I mean look at how his left arm nearly is dislocated at the shoulder on the first lift

  • 1:01 just clean it, and jerk it, lemme watch it... that's what she said:)

  • wtf???

this exercise can literally kill you!!!

  • @TrueDominguez So can a walk on through the city....

  • I like the coach. He's good.

  • Great athlete, great coach, great comraderie, great vid. 5 stars

  • Do you really see a big difference using weight lifting shoes??? I have some High Top chucks, and I just can't quite bring myself to buy a pair

  • @Krisbert1219 you need the shoe not to have any restrains on the movement of the ankle. You also want to have a solid sole and heel - weightlifting shoes usually have a hard rubber sole and a wooden heel. They prevent injuries, and if you don't want to prevent injuries, work with your Chucks.

  • @Krisbert1219 definitely. the heel aids with depth. the sole doesn't compress at all and there is no lateral movement.

  • @Krisbert1219 wat ever ur total is right now it will shoot up pretty well with weightlifting shoes trust me

  • Crossfit = lolherniaseverywhere

  • @ZeekyBoogyDoog i LOLd

  • This guy is a great coach

  • lol he can't even brush his hips

  • 1) thats a snatch

    2) his fucking left arm almost went all the way back

  • @AngeelDust

    1) its a snatch for the first 60seconds, and a clean and jerk the remaining 7 minutes.

    2) max attempts will do that to ya.

  • @AngeelDust Watch the whole video before commenting, maybe?

  • that was awesome. good on him. whats his weight class btw?

  • if you wanna do sth like olympic weightlifitng guys do it right..i all positive about people trying to improve their physiche but keep in mind that when performing olympic lifts things may go teribble wrong if you dont understand the movement completely,,Anyway it seems that Cross fit is tough but trust me it aint weightlifting not by a long shot

  • mike Burgener aint messin around

  • I am sure your coach tells u this but you leading foot make sure to switch it off, great lifting my friend

  • GREAT FUCKING LIFT! u got wonderful coaches my friend

  • That's what it's all about... training to set that new PR... a lot of the time people are capable of more than they think... they just need proper technique and good coaching! Good job man!

  • it's a true PR when you have to overcome the mental aspect of the lift as well, NICE!!!!

  • wow...coach B is scary...

  • Great work, Pat! You are lucky to have Coach B. as your mentor..

  • Awesome coach! Awesome lifting Pat!!!

  • One friggin good video here, this is such a great motivator! Thnx

  • lol clean and jerk.. thats what she said

  • DAMN i wish that was my instructor

  • You are really strong for your size but why are you crying on a 225 and go for 238 easy ?

  • That was AWESOME. Great lifting! Congrats on your PRs (:

  • 2 reds + bar = 225 lbs?? Aren't reds supposed to be 25 kg = 55 lbs?

  • @Zoidypoo89 competition bumper plates are labeled as you mentioned. these are not competition bumpers.

  • @SMCStudio Training bumpers also come in KG in which the reds would still be 25kg. Has nothing to do with competition or training bumpers. It has everything to do with LBS vs. KG. Some manufactures sell the LBS sets with the reds at 45 LBS...such as what you see in the video.

  • You are the man Pat!!

  • 2 people do not know how to properly perform a clean and jerk.

  • Can i teach the clean and jerk to myself without any guidance? I mean, we don't have these kind of pro's at the local gym.

  • Does it matter if you don't alternate between feet in the "lunge" phase? For training purposes i mean.

  • @topknot693 1:22 Clean and jerk. Dumbass

  • inspiring... Crossfit is awesome

  • Great Spirit MAN!!!!!!!!

  • great coaching

  • Awesome vid.. thanks for sharing. Any chance you can quickly explain pros/cons of hook grip? tyvm!

  • awsome clean and jerk...and 168 pounds is alot to snatch....atleast for me...snatching is hard

  • Great job man! i find your video very motivational!!

  • what is this your lifting in kg?

  • half the weight in pounds and then take a little bit off and thatys very roughly the weight in kg. ither that or you can type it into a converter online

  • @jackmaggotdude

divide the weight in pounds by 2.2.

A very close estimate is to divide by 2, then subtract 10%.

  • @tripl6ez

245 is just over 111 kg.

    168 is about 76 kg.

  • LMAO 2 PLATE

  • Awesome job man, I just hit 245 on C&J myself, feels good to destroy a PR. Way to go man

  • love this vid, watch it before i workout on every C&J day.. plz dont ever take it down cheers

  • Great coaching

  • Great, great lift! For the max lift, if you were to extend your hips more during the 3rd phase of the lift, 265lbs would be an easy max for you. Just an observer trying to help out.

  • thanx coach. i corrected some of my problems with my lifts. Thanx a million!

  • Great Video!!!!!!!!

  • great vid.

  • @HabboTeck

what if i name it your mothers snatch while i jerk over it?

  • I'm always surprised by the ignorance and immaturity of the people who comment on YouTube.

  • Excellent work! Not easy coming back from a failed set to set a new PR. Going heavy gets addicting.

  • Great job coaching! Good to see a coach that understands the mechanics of lifting! Great job on the lift Pat!

  • Comment removed

  • @topknot693 best response to this video. hands down.

  • @topknot693 lol

  • Great job. Wicked strong for your build. Looks awesome!

  • i want this guy to be my coach!

  • Awesome video. You are damn strong for your size.

  • weak as piss

  • how can i increase my clean and jerk?

  • @XEnduro93 Cleaning and jerking

  • this is the most helpful video i've seen in regards to clean and jerk. thank you.

  • What leg should you lead with? your dominant one, or should you alternate?

  • @Natrix918273 Try doing it both ways and seeing which one is more natural everyone is different. I have a knee injury so it's easier to lead with my bad knee. Try it both ways you will probably feel a difference.

  • I had coach Burgener two years ago, best coach ever.

  • @ryangi5 Impressive. I guess that would be hard to gently put down that much weight. I guess you just have to practice this with other people's weights.

  • @ryangi5 bumper plates = made for dropping.

  • i m beginner i see this beautiful competition or sport or what ever u wanted to call it , i love this so much and i can lift not alot for this moment but i improve day by day , i can lift just 85 clean and jerk i know is very little but i enjoy it hopefully to get better in the future

  • @5arcibaldo Everyone has to start somewhere. Stick to it and it pays off. I have one recommendation - Do lots of squats with plenty of rest in between (no more than twice a week). And drink plenty of milk with protein powder. Don't mess with any other supplements, most are a rip. The strength trainer for the UNL football program said squats can cure cancer. There is a book, and some free articles on the net, about the program called Super Squats. Lots of squats + protein & milk + rest.

  • @ryangi5 HEY dumbass if you were watching the video he was lifting 238 lbs. Its very hard to put that weight nicely on the floor once you lift it over you head, it would me much easier to drop it.

  • @chavios I'm going to guess that you don't have many friends, with your nice disposition and all. I could point out that others have already responded to this, or that I too already replied saying it would be hard to set down that weight, but I won't do that. The conversation was civil, before you responded, with profanity and capitalization. Your response seems overly aggressive, which is characteristic of people on steroids. When you get busted with roids, be smart and sell out your supplier!

  • @ryangi5

yeah well next time use your brain and figure it out for yourself before you ask stupid questions. Sorry i dont need roids to get stronger maybe you do. For you information detective dumbass you tell if someone is taking steroids because they're angry you retard. There can be someone who is very calm and take steroids.

  • @ryangi5

    this aint bodybuilding, it's WEIHGTLIFTING

  • @APatriarca1 Thank you, Patricia! I already commented below on how I realized that my original comment was wrong.

  • @ryangi5 are you brand new?

  • @ryangi5

you're officially the biggest moron i've met on youtube :D

  • @91lilfrozone23 Those steroids are going to your head. They are not only causing roid rage, but they are also negatively affecting your ability to comprehend what you read. Ordinarily I would pity you, but since your roid rage is a self-inflicted disorder, it is your fault!
