I've studied Wing Chun for thirty years from three different sources. I'd be more than happy to learn a lesson or two from this man. His power and control are amazing. It kills me when I watch Kung Fu that good and then scroll down and see all the crap you people type in. Shadowind, thank you, loved the footage.
This may not be the traditional style of Wing Chun that most people are use too, but it a decent variation of it. A true art evolves with the times and the person. This is his personal interpretation, nothing more.
dang...he actually makes me scared with them grunting!!! Looks like he was locked up in a basement somewhere since he was a child and had only one friend...that being the wooden dummy!!! WHOW
It looks like there is too much tension on the shoulder movement.. like he's not doing it in the relax way of shoulder movement.. and also it looks like he's trying to chase the arm which is not right in blocking.
i carnt say i like this dummy form as the way he seems to do it is not what the dummy is for the main purpose of the dummy is for foot work and skill not to hit as hard as you can. and as for the grunting im not to keen on that as its like telegraphing attacks.
Please remember this form where is originated from. The initial inventor for this system is designed for a female physique. Therefore when doing the training it's not meant to use lots of hard physical strength! I know it looks good when demoing it!
But when you're training this system you should think about speed and diversion that's what it really meant!
I have some suggestion, before playing with dummy, try with ball first, a volley ball is a vry good to exercise it, rounded the ball with your two hand, I think u understand what I meant. When play with Dummy, two hands move in one form, I meant you do counter and attack at the same time. The next movement must be chain for each other, let it flow but in the end give some power, good luck
stay vertical! hunching toward the target his chin is dangerously close to the wooden arms. there are many deviations from the old school form here. what is the raspy grunting about?
Thank you for your observations. Calasanz is well aware of the distance between his chin and the wooden dummy arms. Calasanz doesnt play patty cake with the dummy but likes to get a good workout on it, which sometimes means that he may use unconventional movements. As for the raspy grunting,
it is just a deep exhalation and this is his signature sound, which is nothing earth shattering in the martial arts. We will take your comments under advisement given the fact that while you may have studied with the Moyat Family, Calasanz trained with Moyat in Chinatown back when you were just a child.
You are another one of those who criticized Bruce Lee while he was not a movie star and immediately he accomplished that, you were his student. You witness martial arts to your own self, rather than seeing the martial arts from the point of view of who is good and who is bad. Thanks for your comment sir
..all other comments aside he is bending over and then jerking upwards with his head - I understand he is trying to be compact and powerful but his pressure is up and down and to the side - how would this look in Cho Sao practice?
1st he bow to the dummy,he's following the tradition blindly too.he moves are not very chinese too,he flexes his muscles impressing audiences more than knowing the art of the martial arts.
Who cares how the man hits the dummy or how he breathes, you have to understand that he is expressing himself. People these days are to busy looking for flashy moves. Man id love to have forearm conditioning like Cal's, that's awesome.
Caveman doing wing chun here we go LOOL this guy cant be serious i saw him in other vids nothing close to real wc my gf would rip him apart with her basic wc
what is this stupid guys doing wuold be better for the entire world to take away this shitfrom the net if i would ever meet you i really would like to try the skill of this fuckin'stupid dress like a monky
We love your common but if you have any idea of wing chun just check on the center of the individual performing the techniques, also follow the breathing which matching the softness of his movements. Calasanz is unique, but unique because of his skill on comparison with others wing chun practictioners. Our wing chun is also well balanced, but anyway sir continue following the way that Calasanz approach to the martial arts and I am sure that someday you will learn or give him some credit
And people talkn about how hard to hit the dummy, there really isnt a established rule that hitting the dummy hard is useless, I think anyone should hit the dummy as hard as they feel they can, without injury and without putting your all into it.
I beleive , someone really important said, You cannot master your wooden opponent until you break him. All those rediculous 11th degree masters should keep that in mind before they say they are better than the best you can be.
Sir I like the way you approach to the art. Bruce Lee was criticized by the chinese because he was too hard, but they never could understand that Bruce Lee has mastered the path to a new skill ans science of softness, the chinese that we know they believe in so much of a tradition, they did not want to understand this skill, which I am sure they could not get it anyway just because Bruce lee was too unique.
Sir we like your common, you are writing logically. We are the first to agree that Calasanz is so unique that sometimes makes it hard for some martial arts practictioners to understand including those who practice the wing chun. But again sir continue being yourself, when you have time go to our web site and download this brochure called "Calasanz a life time of messages", that also give you a complete idea of how Calasanz got up to here, but again he is confidence of his well balance skill.
Thats def the WING CHUN DUMMY form, but the posture is all off and the dummy is not made to hit that hard. Its not a punching bag, its a training tool used to learn to stick and help footwork to move around someone. The kick should def. not be that high either, wing chun kicks shouldn't go above the waist. But you def have good strength, flexibility, focus. Cool vid.
wow, what strength. very good technique and good to see someone hitting the arms hard. thats how you hit a wooden dummy, afterall you are training for a combat situation.
your not meant to hit the dummy like that it's for learning to stick to and move around an opponent, this guys wing chun is turd although he does look hard if a little stupid
gongsau - I looked at your profile - 1 video watched, 1 comment, no videos uploaded - you actually made a new username just to comment on this video...I'm flattered - why don't you upload some videos so everyone can see your skills...or at least stop being a coward and give us the screen name you use to upload your vids.
Calasanz may give the "appearance" of being hard & tense, but speaking from experience, that is not the case. I have worked with him for over 10 years and his Wing Chun technique is very soft and lethal at the same time.
hes hairs looks like a lion and the form is like an old grandpa =/

There is something missing here sir, Here Calasanz is striking very hard, but check his arms how relaxed there are.
That is what you call, using soft and hard, all natural, so sir just try to understand it first.

don't pull your hand when u want to start a movement, just move it follow a cyrcle, flow it.
If u pull your hand it will look to segmented.

Cal has good energy, and power, His Wing Chun may not be the correct wight distribution.
But with his frame it doesnt matter, the people who are talkn shit about him, should watch his other videos.
His Core Training is Hardcore, Im gonna steal some of his excercise and use it to get back in shape.
I think cal would fuck up most the people talkn shit here. I wouldnt fight him, I wouldnt Fight anyone who does Wing Chun including myself.
