Great players, no ego's and enjoying the master Snooks! How many pro players would be schooled like that and take it for what it is? No malice intended, Just Snook's and his never ending song book!
I am so sorry to hear of Snooks death. I bought the first LP on Folkways at the end of the 50s and have spent a lifetime collecting his music when I could find it (Not always that easy ). He is what New Orleans music is as far as I am concerned and I always harboured the hope of seeing play live one day. Its not going to happen now but I will still have his music to listen to. I am really very sad at his loss. My condolences to Dorethea and all his friends and fans.
hang in there George, you're my favorite Bass player, I got to play with you at the workplay in Birmingham in 2005.
I'm from the old school where we had to know the changes to all of the standards, including "Lucky old Sun" I remember my brother calling my cell, asking for the chords to the bridge on this, cuz somebody gave a $20.00 tip to hear this song.
Check out the Ray Charles version here on youtube
times have sure changed, most players today don't even read
poor george I hate it when they pull some new song out on me on stage but they made it through I had the chance to sit and talk with snooks he is an awesome guy
well, it's one of those tunes you just have to know - and he probably just dropped in in Porter's lap with no prep.... Snooks is a sneaky bugger that way.. but at least he has a sense of humor about it (and so does George)
First Snooks totally rules. He'll pull stuff out like this regularly, but this is the messiest I've ever seen. Where was this shot from? At the Rockin Bowl this camera spot would be in the ceiling.
Have you got more Snooks? If this is official Rockin Bowl stuff, you must have tons. More please!!! Tunes they all actually knew. I felt bad for George here, but it's amazing to watch Snooks do this. Snooks' Black Top records of the 80/90s were the best R & B recordings I know.
ya gotta love this video!

Johnny Cash did at an excellent version of this song on one of his last albums. "American V", I think.

I really liked the song in this clip. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of "Life in the Middle"?
