  • Funny enough, the Santorini eruption caused the destruction of a powerful maritime based civilization on Crete, lableled by archeologists the Minoans. Some have thought this civilization was the basis for the legend of Atlantis. Ironic that this eruption may have inspired two legendary disasters.

  • PEOPLE - the fourth plague was an infestation of wild animals (from lion to koala to alligator to polar bear). They didn't mention this one at all! It says that the fourth plague is a plague of flies, which is absolutely untrue. It was the 3rd plague that was the plague of lice. How convenient for them that they mixed this up. I wonder what the scientific explanation of wild animals would have been...

  • boil are from carbon dixocide

  • gas leak cause water to turn red

  • The BIBLE said it, I believe it, that settles it (;>

  • This actually isn't a very good description. It's interesting that it shows that it was plausible, but this account actually isn't. Google "the science of miracles" and find the article on the 10 plagues

  • i think GOD knew what he was doing just mess up egypt to free his people

  • This makes me understand better how it all happened. God does have control over everything. Nothing could have happened by coincidence.

  • What's the source of this vid, for citing purposes? I need it for a paper.

  • @balthier1259 Check the video info, duh ;)

  • @zakiechan "extra feature from a movie" (a fictional one at that) isn't the best way to cite a source, now is it? But it's a start. Thanks.

  • @balthier1259 Probably not. What is your paper about? I might be able to direct you to something more scholarly.

  • @zakiechan It's about this exactly: the science of the ten plagues (or rather, various theories on how the ten plagues could have happened). However, my point is mainly to point out that miracles do not have to be supernatural or something beyond our natural laws to be considered miraculous. XD

It's alright, I have other sources. I just cited this along with the movie. They're theories, after all.

  • @balthier1259 you are correct ,,, and even if science find evedence why or how these occured the real crucst of the issue is mosses said these would happen before they did ,,, things that make you go hummm

  • @lesterclaypool1 and the paper got me a B+. Not bad. XD

  • @balthier1259 did you use any of the writtings or refferences from the ipmwer papyrus ? and im glad you did well peace ,,,,, ; ]

  • @lesterclaypool1 hmmm. I don't think so. I used my own logic, too, so I'm fine. Haha.

  • @balthier1259 that will do ... peace = ]

  • @zakiechan There is an issue of Popular Mechanics from December 1996 that is all about this. You might see if a library can track it down.

Also, check out the wikipedia article on the Plagues of Egypt. That might be a good place to track down some actual references. There are also (at least) two academic papers on it. Check out "An epidemiologic analysis of the ten plagues of Egypt" and "Origin of the Old Testament Plagues: Explications and Implications."

  • @balthier1259

The miracles of exodus - 2003 - by Colin J Humphreys (the guy portrayed in the video), which pretty much is a re-hash of Marr and Malloy, “An Epidemiologic Analysis of the Ten Plagues of Egypt”, Caduceus, 1996.

The huge problem with the stuff is that the plagues are mostly unlinked, hence by the theory of probability chance is they DIDN'T take place.

  • This is nothing more than people bashing square pegs into round holes. It's fun but utter nonsense. If you look at HOW the bible was written you find that these were written at different times. The "J Scribes" mention some. The "E Scribes" edit & add a few. The "P Scribes" decide on ten. So we actually have more than 10.

darkness, frogs, boils (on beasts & man), hail (storms) of fire, (water into) blood, locusts, pestillence, plague on beasts, vermin, lice, death of 1st born, gnats, flies.

  • @randomuseronthenet Well the newer bibles now days have been changed a lot, to keep people happy and because some people don't like what the Bible says. But the older, more accurate Bible such as the KJV, the NKJV, and many others actually say that once the hailstones hit the ground that they would start to lite on fire or burn. By the way I didn't really get that first part of your reply.

  • first of all this is very illogical. How can these "natural occurances" happen to only the egyptions and not to the hebrews or israelites. second, in the " hail" plague in the bible it says that after the hail fell it turned into fire and burned. This is only a small portion of the truth, and there is way more explained in the bible. just read it your self.

  • @mexseg If he that can send plagues at his desire then why can't he separate the Hebrews (Israelites) from them. According to the newer Bible narratives, it was rain, hail, and thunder with no mention of fire because it would sound a tad strange. Just making a point and correcting you.

  • i HATE ppl that voices drone on and on and on and on

  • for those who dont know not only to free the hebrews but the main reason for the 10 plagues was to bring down the 10 false gods worshiped in egypt....godbless moses...praise the almighty

  • Zak check out "walking the bible" (a journey by land through the five books of moses)....narrated by Bruce Feiler...on DVD.

You seem very bright, its a shame to close the door on a foundation that is still unfolding...if anything being an agnostic still keeps your mind open...atheism seem's bleak.

  • @nztexas1

I will def check it out.

I do have my mind open, in the sense that I have a number of things that would change my mind on every position I hold. Atheism isn't bleak... it is quite liberating actually.

  • @zakiechan may i ask ,,, if you are athiest ,,,where did we come from ? i mean humans of corse ? i just wish to hear the athiest veiw point thanks

  • a proof to the The Ten Plagues

just Google The Ten Plagues - Live From Egypt

and learn about the IPUWER PAPYRUS

  • If you're going to accept the validity of the Ipuwer Papyrus, does that mean you're also willing to accept the Roman and Hebrew scholars who documented over 10 other supposed "messiahs" during Jesus' time?

  • To clarify, read the book "Cows, Pigs, Wars and Witches." It's chock-full of stuff you probably won't believe if you believe in the plagues literally and trust a BC Egyptian who's scared out of his mind - writing about things no one understood at that time. The other scholars just wrote down human history. Also, check out the "Documentary Hypothesis" - provides an interesting alternative to the volcano theory. Good day!

  • how scientific is the "Documentary Hypothesis"

it became necessary for JEDP theorists to make adjustments again and again. Some, as Phelan notes, created a veritable alphabet soup of sources (p. 49), and the social aspect of the theory grew accordingly—having only the hypothesized divisions of these documents as evidence (not archaeology, or any other external vector)

  • The unraveling of JEDP is found primarily in the discovery of artificial literary structures3 in the text of the Pentateuch which demonstrate that the text is overwhelmingly the work of a single author. The purpose of such structures, in the context of the biblical world, was to make the stories easier to remember: typically, ninety to ninety-five percent of people in the ancient world were illiterate, so information had to be transmitted orally.

  • agabrieblus,

If you have something to say, that's fine. But don't just copy and paste things fundy apologists who have absolutely no training in this area, especially without citing your source.

At the very least, and try to quote someone with actual training in this area... someone who is a reputable historian.

And really, do you honestly think that Moses wrote about his own death? C'mon.

  • Deuteronomy was written by Moses there can be no doubt, from (Deu_1:1), only the eight last verses, which give an account of his death, and of his character, were wrote by another hand, equally inspired by God, as either Eleazar the priest, as some, or Samuel the prophet, as others; or, as it is the more commonly received opinion of the Jews, Ezra; though it is highly probable they were wrote by Joshua his successor."

  • Seriously? I just asked you to stop copy/pasting... and from yahoo answers? C'mon lol! How about going and reading a book on the subject, by an actual scholar, and learning for yourself? Such as "Who Wrote The Bible" or "The Bible Unearthed".

Also, Deut 1:1 mentions Moses in the 3rd person.

I also don't even know of any critical scholar who thinks Moses wrote the Pentateuch.

  • zakiechan stop philosophize

i can copy and paste what ever i feel like if its the answer i look for

and since you don't believe in god its passable that you are descendant of the monkey family

  • Agabrielus,

The point was that you weren't citing your sources, and that your sources weren't even reputable to begin with.

  • @agabrielus

Deuteronomy is fake. King Hezekiah wanted to reform the Hebrew religion, went to the Temple and busted up some idols and....Lo and Behold, there's a lost book of Moses in the corner, that no one had ever noticed or mentioned. And, coincidentally, it just happened to incorporate all of the exact reforms that King Hezekiah had wanted to implement. What amazing luck!

  • @agabrielus

It is written in a completely different style than the other four books of Moses, uses language and vernacular that Moses wouldn't have used, but Hezekiah would have, and was mysteriously found at a very convenient time for a king who wanted to modify Mosaic Law.

  • zakiechan

do you believe in God ?

  • lol of course not. Minds cannot exist independently of brains.

  • you dont think they did because you believe in what the bible said, they happened in chain reactions over a decent amount of time, its never been said "yep all the 10 plagues happened in one day and they were close together" a chain reaction doesnt have to cause an event the next hour.jjust cause another event at some time. The egyptians kept their history recorded very well, tell me where in the egyptian records it says "a jew dug his staff in the ground and it turned the water into blood"

  • this is bollocks the plagues didn't happen suddenly. in the first plague god commanded moses to raise his staff over the river and then it turned into blood

then on the second plague god commanded moses to put his staff onto the river and hordes of frogs will come out and etc so the plagues did not happen suddenly or they did not happen in chain reactions

  • According to whom?

  • don't you read the bible?????

  • as for the first borns dying. in ancient egypt, the first borns wer always favoured. thus they would sleep in the house on lower beds. the other siblings always slept on the rooftops.. the sea that parted was not the red sea but a lake.

  • scientist have actualyl found the reason why the sea parted for moses. due to a tsunami brought on the volcano eruption that seperated the greek islands. further the blood of the nile was due to the red mud from under the shock waves. n of course fish died. the ony animals to survive were the frogs as they can live on land. the gas that killed the first born is a gas that comes from the poisonus gas that seeped out of the ground when the eruption causedplates to shift.

  • why are people debatin this shit? the bible is not a factual book, its a book full of very interesting but very fictional stories

  • hmmm?....what?!

  • hmmm?

  • Only moron's believe the Bible is fictional!

  • im the moron when i have the proof of evolution as the explanation for our existance? only morons believe in a 2000 year old book full of stories about separatin seas and hordes of locust... are u tellin me u seriously believe that stuff actually took place? ill tell u what tho, exodus is probly the most interestin thing ive ever read, as storytellers these people were amazin

  • im honestly not tryin to disrespect ur beliefs, i have a huge amount of respect for people who can put their entire faith in a religion, i just find it hard to understand how people can seriously believe that stuff...

  • you just dont know for a fact that any of that stuff was real. they found ALOT of evidence that jesus existed through the historical records of india and rome.

  • Noah's ark is embedded in a mountain in turkey. you can even see it on google earth. but the turkish government wont let us escavate it. if we could...that would be proof the Bible is truth.

  • how can u possibly know its noahs ark

  • dis is stupid...the book says this events happened from one morning to the next...the frogs came instantly when Moses summoned them with his rod...i can see how scientists would try and make logic of this but they cant explain how it happened from the bible's perspective...becuz its not science, its the power of the Lord of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob

  • the fourth plague wasn't flies, but were actually "wild animals"

    [edit] Wild animals (Ex. 8:20 - 8:32) עָרוֹב

The fourth plague of Egypt was wild animals, capable of harming people and livestock. The Torah emphasizes that the arov (swarm) only came against the Egyptians, and that it did not affect the Land of Goshen (where the Israelites lived). Pharaoh asked Moses to remove this plague and promised to allow the Israelites to worship God in the wilderness.

  • doug is evil they shouldnt b so mean to the girl i think her name is lonne

  • Humans= Darvins Thoery/fact on Evolution

    Animals= Above

    "god"=Doesn't exist

  • can't evolution be the answer to how, just not the answer to why, wouldn't u feel better thinking that death isn't the end, and if it is the end and u believed there was something, is there anything lost since u won't be able to feel bad that u were wrong

  • "wouldn't u feel better thinking that death isn't the end"

That's silly, because what I think has no bearing on whether or not it is true. I take great comfort in knowing that I'll cease to exist when I die.

"if it is the end and u believed there was something, is there anything lost since u won't be able to feel bad that u were wrong"

And if I don't believe, and I am wrong, I still won't feel bad. Why should I feel bad to coming to a reasonable conclusion?

  • u see the big difference between me and u is that u need something to have 100% worthy proof or else it isn't true, when somethings don't need to be explained. ppl like u will go to so many conclusions to proove something is false, give me proof that God or Heaven doesn't exsist...i'm all ears

  • 1. God is a conscious, immaterial mind.

    2. Conscious, immaterial minds exist independent of physical brains.

    3. A change in a physical brain will change the conscious mind.

    4. Therefore, conscious minds are not immaterial or independent of physical brains, and God cannot exist.

  • he is a being, he has no physical form, duh, if ur gonna use that arguement look this info up, here's a thought, the Big Bang...tell me how exactly that happened, in detail, not just a random explosion that created everything, science is answers of how, religion is more of a why and how to be a better person

  • I know God is immaterial, that was the first premise. And as the syllogism shows, an immaterial mind, independent of a physical brain, cannot exist.

If you want to show that the argument is wrong, you have to show that one of the premises (1-3) is wrong, otherwise the conclusion is unavoidable.

The big bang has nothing to do with this... but whatever the case, I don't know it started. No one really knows.

  • "he is a being, he has no physical form"

Consciousness cannot exist without a physical component. That's what he was saying.

"tell me how exactly that happened"

The scientific theory is already out there, but even you admit that religion is not an answer to HOW (and it's not an answer to why unless you purport to be able to read your mythical god's mind).

There's really nothing "random" about the universe. It's just the culmination of events which occurred given the initial conditions.

  • "Therefore, conscious minds are not immaterial or independent of physical brains, and God cannot exist."

Right, just like data on a computer cannot exist without a physical storage medium.

  • Hmmm... it seems like your whole argument (from premise 1) is based on the assumption that God exists because we think He exists, which is already an altheist view.

  • "u see the big difference between me and u is that u need something to have 100% worthy proof or else it isn't true"

What you're referring to is absolute knowledge, and no, I don't require that. I require practical knowledge; something has to have evidence of truth in order for me to believe in it. Otherwise, there is absolutely no reason to believe in it.

"give me proof that God or Heaven doesn't exsist"

I don't need to. You're the one saying he does, YOU need to provide the proof.

  • This proves that there is a God b/c there is no other natural explanation. JK. I am God, not kidding there.

  • he thinks by his momma and daddy

  • What I think is amazing and quite odd...is that NO WHERE in Egyptian History does it tell of a Prince who takes the slaves into the desert. Egyptians kept their History, we know that. An event like that, someone would write about... Not to mention that they were in the desert of 40yrs. NO archaeological Dig have EVER found ANY trace of these people. 100,000 people living in the desert for 40 yrs, and no one ever dies, or drops a bowl, or loses a sandal...Jews are pretty fucking tidy...

  • yes... but you must remember that all written history is biased... depending on what perspective the writer had.... and they may have just cut it out of their history because it's not such a great thing in their past... just as the Brits cut out the War for Independence (Revolutionary War) from their past... it happened but they don't teach it to their students...

however i do agree with your second point about no one dropping bowls or dying and leaving remains... no explanation for that, hehe.

  • People need to read this account for themselves in the book of Exodus starting at Chapter 7.

Notice things like timing. The rivers became blood for seven days, then the plague of frogs happened (less than seven days for frogs to become mature?) Then all the frogs died at once?

Just read through the account and science can't explain the plagues because of the timing between events. Not to mention none of these affected the Hebrews who lived among the Egyptians.

  • does anyone know what the name of the movie example is??

  • They forget that Moses had preemptive knowledge of the plagues before they happened and the plagues came and some went away on command . Some plagues did not affect the Hebrew only the Egyptians including the boils the cattle disease and the firstborn deaths . Also some of the Egyptian magicians we're able to duplicate some of the plagues .

  • I also think that the plague of darkness if it we're a sandstorm would have been called a plague of sandstorms and not darkness , darkness might be one of your leasts worries in a sandstorm .

  • i used to be religious then I gave up on faith because science took me over. but thank you for your reply. now I have some faith in God

  • there is no god

  • You acknowledge that you believe merely because you are told. That you believe irrationally, without proof. You are obviously aware of this, yet you continue to believe out of an acknowledged sense of wishful thinking. Do you not find this combination of wishful ignorance and irrationality of your beliefs to be a bit disturbing? Not to attack you by any means, it's just that you acknowledge two major elements that the non-religious cite for their beliefs.

  • that is not real God made the pleauges the river turned to blood the land was filled with frogs dust be came iching lice and flies ate the spoials animals died people burned with boils hail fell from the sky darkness filled the sky blinding every one the first born children died inclueding pharoh's son

  • Interesting how all of these amazing cataclysmic events were never independently recorded or even mentioned by the vast historical records of the Egyptian civilization.

  • why you expect everything in history to be written by every author? some wars are talked of more than others. does that make it false?

  • Brie y do u believe in middle eastern superstitions???How bout making up some new lies to tell around this 21st century campfire :]

  • Can someone please explain the ending of The Reaping, So is she going to have a devil baby or what?

  • yea..so if you listen in the movie when that old guy that ends up getting burnt to death in that room when it catches on fire, then hes explaing to that lady(hilary swank) about how the second born is born with the eyes of satin or something like that and the baby in her stomach would be her second born so i think thats whats going on. peace!

  • thank you.

  • Briebear- if Christianity isn't a religion, then why are Churches tax exempt?

    ;)

  • Boy -o -boy Zak that would be great to get these deadbeats to pay taxes:]

  • Oh, forgot to mention, awesome video.

  • The reason why the Israelites were left unharmed, is because the Old Testament was written by the Israelites....

What caused the Exodus 'Plagues' was Nibaru/Planet X zooming by our planet... The Exodus was around 1550-1570 B.C. - roughly 3600 years ago, which ties in with Nibaru's 'circuit'...

BUT... If you're born in Nebraska and/or have no idea what I'm talking about, search "Zecharia Sitchin" IMMEDIATELY on Google/YouTube/Yahoo, then read for about 15 years and you'll almost catch up...

  • you Nibiru freaks need to cut it out with that bullshit

  • I wonder if they offer an explanation for why the Israelites were left unharmed and only the Egyptians where harmed.

  • DOC2GOD-

Perfectly fine opinion. However, the same can be said for Science. That is just driving back to the regular problem. If you believe in Science, than thats it. If you believe god did it, thats it. Thier is no mention whatsoever in this that god doesnt exist.

  • im an athiest by the way. one of my friends tryed to convert me on tuesday. he said i should go to hell for something i said.i cant remember but anyway he said that and i said "prove that there is a hell" so he said "damn athiests". that shut him up for the rest of the day

  • Bing1Bong3-

HA! And they tell us "prove there isnt a god". Oddly enough, they can never tell us why there is. No one will ever be able to find a single shred of evidence saying that god exists, while in one day you could probably find five reasons why he doesnt.

  • exactly. but christians always start the argument over athiestism and religion is the main cause of war.

  • Oh well. Y'know, they say we dont follow the ten commandments, then they call us a "dumbfuck", and steal our lunch money. OK, maybe not the second one, but you get the point. The fact is, most Christians are hippocrits. Not all of them (my grandmother is a stickler for rightousness), but it is unbelievably annoying.

  • Shademurtagh-

Ok, the Athiests are the racist bitches now? Wow, so I guess thats why Christians have caused almost all religous wars. Even though an atheist has never started a single war, Christians are not at all discriminate, just the atheists. Idiotic biggot...

  • k people calm downnn! everyone has their own opinions. lets not get ghetto about it and stop calling people durogatory(sp)names and be mature! everyone has the right to their own oppinions so dont get shysty!

  • Yes, everyone has a right to their own opinion-thats my point.Obviously you have no idea the attacks atheists come under on youtube and in the real world.I have a right to be an atheist and he has a right to be a christian, as well as a muslim has a right to be a Muslim, or as you have a right to use improper grammar. If you let people keep hating then their will be conflict between Atheists and Christians for centuries more. The world doesnt let you sit down and take abuse if you want to thrive

  • care?

  • Apparently you do, or you wouldnt have commented. If you dony have the attention span to read a paragraph, go back to fallout boy music videos

  • actually i did read the paragraph and i dont really care what you have to say anymore so peace!

  • "not get ghetto" damn racist are everywhere.:]lol dang no-see-ems & greenheads bite like hell their enough to make you into a superstitious tard!!!

  • im NOT racist thank you very much. how is "not get ghetto" racist? just cause i said the word 'ghetto'??? white people can be ghetto to ya know!

  • 2yum,just jerking your chain chill.lol

  • There is a conference going on that calls for that athiests, gays, adulters and troubled youths should die. this is all coming from christans. isnt that genocide? So whats going on here is that these people want genocide in a democratic country. thats f'd up

  • Thats America. Sure its a Democracy, but with the first amendment, any sadistic creep can make there point and no one can do anything about it.

  • Just to clarify from my first comment, I have no qaulms with the first amendment, quite the contrary.

  • Is this a good film. I have not seen it. However there was a documentary many years ago on british tv that explained the ten plagues one by one with scientific facts we know today.

  • I also thought that red tides were caused exclusively by brine alge and thus could not have ocured in a river, or any fresh water.

  • Why, if the red tide killed all the fish, would the red tide not have also killed all the frog eggs, there by eliminating the need for fish to reduce the frog population.

  • Good question. I have no idea.

  • Saying that God "did it with science" is like saying that Zeus actually does throw lightning bolts, and Thor is actually responsible for thunder... but they use electricity and air pressure.

Such hypotheses are superfluous and dont add anything to our understanding of the phenomena. And then there is Ockham's Razor...

Soon as there is a rational explanation, God is no longer needed in the equation.

  • Well I just put it up, cause I thought it was really interesting, regardless of beliefs.

I got it off of "The Reaping" DVD extra features.

  • Its not really backing up the bible, its explaining away an alleged miracle. By the same reasoning, electricity backs up Greek mythology-- because it explains how Thor really could have been throwing lightning bolts.

In both cases, a god is no longer needed to explain anything.

  • i saw something like this on the history channel. It was dumb, the guy provided an entire scientific explanation to exodus and said it was proof of a god. But to me its the opposite, proving that it happened naturally means it wasn't an act of god at all.

  • Any nature disaster was "translated" as a God's act. For the fanatic sick muslisms the Wolrd Trade enter colapse was a act of Allah, conducting the terrorists. Religion stinks...

  • And apparently the California fires are because of the homosexuals, lol!

  • That's funny... Háaaa

At least USA have no native Bomb-Man terrorist. After all USA have no dozen of virgens to reward each terrorist.

  • I didn't hear that one. haha. Pat Robertson?

  • HA!

  • Cool, thanks.
