  • I listened twice to this; and say thank you (3times) to the poster.

    Beautiful

  • hauntingly sad, yet wonderfully beautiful.....every one of us can put our own lives to this tribute..... life is so short, love, even when endouring, is so fleeting...memories are forever.

  • great...no one does this song better.

  • what a beautiful and classy tribute....he was a cool guy...and she was a dream. thank you!

  • I think he absolutely adorded her. It's wonderful to care that much for someone.

  • Much like Grace Kelly, Sandy just did not have a bad angle. In some shots she looks better than others, but her beauty really shines in each one.

You can tell Bobby's not at his best; his high notes don't always have the confidence he was famous for (and I don't think it was a thematic choice), and he does not show his best control here. What a trooper, though, to do this when he knew his health was getting the better of him. Despite the flaws, he still delivers a very sweet performance.

  • How sad and bittersweet. Not only their end but of America's loss of innocence, when Dem's and Rep's worked together for good. We knew the clean, light hearted and bright dream of believing and trusting in leaders and each other died with the death of Kennedy. Bobby and Sandy were a part of that bright dream.

  • @mvies77 very true, sadly, greed and selfishness has taken forfront to God's laws. for a nation to change, people must change first...and it starts with loving the lord then loving each other...our leaders are not men of faith anymore...as they go...we go.. hopefully that will change and this beautiful music will again be relevant.

  • That was great but sad, good comments from Rtmax45

  • this song kills me....thank you

  • Thank you for a beautiful video. I was twenty years old at the height of Bobbys fame and "Beyond the sea" became mine and my future husbands song as I was overseas at the time. Their love story ended so tragically but at least they knew a great love and their talents live on today.

  • On a certain site which youtube won't let me post, there are 2,089 notes with flowers left there. She is one of the most popular graves visited on the site. Her marker reads Sandra Dee April23 1942- February 20 2005. Then one large single rose and below that Unforgettable And Always Loved.

  • Most of the kids that saw Grease didn't know who Sandy was.

  • Fantistic! So very well done! That is all I can say!

  • always make me cry!! :/

  • I am watching the movie right now Beyond the Sea right on cable TV. Seen it once but I got to see again I grew up with his music,

  • Once upon a time

the world was sweeter than we knew

    Everything was ours

    How happy we were then

But somehow once upon a time

    will come again....:)

  • I watched "Beyond the Sea" last night and had to see some original Darin. This tribute is beautiful, and such a magnificent song. Thanks.

  • BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY <3

  • I still tear up when I watch the video, and I'm a old nam, vet , and always I miss the music...thank you you are a beautiful person...you have made a diff...

  • @kenneth6391 Ken, First thank you for your service to our country. It is appreciated by more than you probably think. The 60's represented the best of times and the worst of times, like any other era. You know that better than most. Celebreties of that time were larger than life, so much so that in retrospect some seem phony. Not Sandra and Bobby. They were real people, who really loved each other, and through their combined talents offered us a sense of what was good and right in America.

  • Thank you for posting this beautiful song and for the lovely photo montage. Some I'd never seen. Always wished they could have made it, but too much Life got in the way. I've idolized Bobby and Sandra for most of my life and still greatly enjoy their talents.

  • Beautiful tribute, but it made me want to cry. Lucy and Desi too. People who you think would've stayed together till the end for sure. Thanks.

  • Sandra Dee was the girl we all wanted to look like; loved her in all the Gidget films

  • A time that will never exist again in america,,,I remember it well,, no locked doors , you new all of your neighbors, people cared about each other...

  • such great memories - thank you

  • Thanks Muirmaiden.

As a kid, I'd occasionally hear the instrumental version. I always liked it, not knowing the title until years later. Now with Youtube and great people like you who post these tunes, I can listen to this tune, superbly performed by Bobby. And as a photographer, I really appreciate the stills...they're great!

  • Both beautiful and talented stars.

  • When you see photos like these, and know of their story, how can you not hope that, in another time and place, Bobby and Sandy cross paths again. Robert Lewis Stevenson once said that "Love makes us believe in immortality because there seems not room in life for so great a tenderness and it is inconceivable that the most masterful of our emotions should have no more than the spare moments of a few brief years." I have learned that, if you aren't careful ~ life can break your heart.

  • So lovely and yet so sad.

  • Thank you for posting this video. It was beautiful to watch. They looked so happy and so in love.

  • They were lucky to have had such a love as they did, even for such a short time. Most people never find it.

  • @honfleur214 How right you are!

  • Thanks for posting this. Beautiful.

  • Life is unbearably sweet and innocent for a while. America was a youngster in these days with Bobby and Sandra. I wish we could go back there...to a time before terror attacks, stonings and honor killings. Just us...Judeo-Christian America.

It will come again. This life is just a start.

    TheAngel . com

  • Lovely. So lovely. Thank you for sharing this. They were so in love.

  • One of my favorite songs and wht a beautiful couple!

  • She was absolutely gorgeous...........

  • "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye

  • The idealization of love to its umpf degree! It all seems so dreamy, until reality and routine permeate..The one who got away is remembered with nostalgia & reminiscenses of what couldn't be, and the one who remains becomes so unbearable that divorce seems the only way out. When we lose the charm of the first meeting and we start treating each other like strangers, it's all gone. We should treat each other with respect like the first meeting. PEACE.

  • Božská hudba...

  • love these two in if a man answers

  • All of my friends and myself, wanted to be "Gidget" AKA Sandra Dee!!

    We all lost out!

    RIP Sandra and Bobby

  • such a sentimental song and so beautiful, read Bobby's bio and can't say enough how it affected me, RIP and may God bless your memory, you went through a lot in your short life but now you have peace and just know that millions will forever be grateful to you !

  • Has anyone in the music industry ever given so much in so many areas in such a short time? This is so touching and such a wonderful tribute to a love story that makes all our hearts a little softer while yearning for happier times. My husband is gone almost 3 yrs and Bobby's love songs, especially, bring back all the great memories from the early 60's when we met!

  • Their love story was both beautiful and tragic and this poignantly fitting tribute touches me deeply every time I watch it. Thank you : )

  • cute couple!! together again in Heaven!!

  • Thank You so much for this touchingly beautiful tribute to to wonderful people ! Having been a child of the 50's and 60's, I loved them both and wanted to attain the beauty and sweet innocence of Sandra Dee ! Rest in Peace Bobby and Sandy, you are together again at last.

  • @bellrieve Amen, I feel the same way.

  • Sandra Dee was my crush when I was in hi school.

She loved Bobby so much she didn't marry again. Great love story.

  • I'm watching "beyond the sea" by Kevin Spacey, what a great movie! this song was only in it briefly.

  • Like Teddy Roosevelt & JFK, Bobby Darin knew at a young age that his life would be short and in his case due to a weak heart and so he tried to make life lived to the fullest. He wooed and married the most beautiful girl of his age.

  • Bobby Darin e Sandra Dee, um casal que foi 10. Paixão e amor em alta dosagem!! Música linda também.

  • @Juliano4523

Juliano4523.... Not sure what you mean, however, this couple were the Sweethearts of 60's and so in love. Too bad things went bad for them. Sandra Dee was a cliche' during the 70's, with Grease, but she was a real person and a lovely woman who fell on bad times. She loved only one man in her life. How many women or Men for that matter, can claim that honor !!!! I will bet you are not a child of the 50's or 60's, and therfore, you have no idea the real innocence of the time.

  • Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee and A short glimpse of the Age of Innocence

  • I enjoyed your video very much. The were a nice couple. It brought back alot of nice memories to me. The pic of Bobby and Sandra were so beautiful!!! Thanks again.

  • Bobby & Sandra was sucha cute couple!

  • I found this an extremely moving tribute to them both....Thank You from downunder.

  • Calaxus - yes, unfortunately she passed away about 4 years ago. I don't think she ever got over losing her career (what were those people thinking - letting her go?) and losing Bobby. She did an hour show with Sally Jesse Raphael in the 90's - wish I could see that again. Anyone have a copy?????

  • I Sandra Dee dead?

  • heartbreaking. thank you.

  • After Darin's death, (by her own admission) Dee became seriously depressed, drank heavily, etc. The two had an intense bond but Darin fought heart trouble and Sandra Dee had a hard time handling the stress - and the loss.

  • it was a different time , class not like the trash of today the country has gone to hell

  • i so try not to cry

  • Am I wrong, but when I see the movie Grease,I feel like they were knocking her in a putdown way

I wonder what others think thanks

  • @LookinIand, well, from what I heard, Sandra got a kick out of it, she knew they were poking fun at her screen image, not her. She even appeared in a stage production of "Grease" in the 90s.

  • @LookinIand In Grease, only the character Rizzo (& her pajama party allies, loser girls envious of the lead blonde good-girl character "Sandy" clearly modeled on Sandra Dee--whose screen persona had been of a blonde All American girl-next-door wholesome good girl) mocked the Grease character "Sandy" and her role model Sandra Dee (who herself then was a teen version of adult All American pretty Good Girl, Doris Day). So at end of Grease, "Sandy" morphs free (as Danny's steady) into black leather.

  • I saw a really good biography on sandra dee, I thought it was on a&e but I guess not ..hard to believe there is none to be found for such a major icon

  • @TheLindazip , A&E did indeed make a Sandra Dee bio, made in the late 90s. I recorded it when it first aired, don't know if the Biography Channel shows it.

  • I don't know how anybody, anywhere can continue to make lyrics like these and of the great standards. If you listen to today's lyrics they are vague, meaningless phrases that happen to fit the music. The songwriter has my utmost respect when they have to compete with songs like this. I understand Darin might not have wrote this, however he has written over 160 songs and of course he was always striving to be better.

  • watch the movie,"beyond the sea", whit and of Kevin Spacey, you will be suprised......

  • I could hardly bear the sadness of this beautiful video tribute. Thank you so much

  • sandra dee didn't die so young...well physically anyway

she never got over bobby and didn't remarry.

she is cute in the gidget films.

  • Despite their successes separately and together I always thought these "Dreamlovers" were underrated. She was beautiful and his talent was limitless. Thanks for the terrific video and the perfect song to go with it.

  • Really love this. Whoever put this togeter, thank you. The perfect song. They both burned so bright and died too soon.

  • Tear-Jerker alert....This is the perfect video if you're love to cry, like I do!

  • wow ...well done! I love this.

  • This was a beautiful video . . . . . I've read 3 books on Bobby, and it's clear (especially from the book written by their son) that they never stopped loving each other. They were in love at a time when we didn't understand their psychological and physical issues. If we knew at the time how to treat eating disorders, and how to replace heart valves, Bobby and Sandy may have been able to work through their troubles.

I prefer to believe that Bobby and Sandy are together in a better place.

  • Excellent. I'm not very familiar with Bobby Darrin's music, but I absolutely adore this song. I was just at a record show, and my mom found one of his albums. I get the feeling I should've purchased it =_= Oh well. I loved the pictures of them you used. You can tell they were very much in love in these photos, and that reflected the song perfectly.

  • he died young at 37 yrs. but she was 63yrs..not that young...

  • @tanglewood2222 63 isnt that old. But even after he was died all those years she NEVER married again. That is both very sad and so very beatiful at the same time. No other could replace her true love and it seems she wouldnt settle for second best. . A vey tragic and beatiful love story

  • @tanglewood2222 NOT THAT OLD, EITHER thanks (am 65)

  • When I saw you I fell in love, and you smiled because you knew.

    -- William Shakespeare

  • beautiful song and tugs at the heart thanx for sharing <3

  • Very nice! I grew up listening to bobby darrin, and loved sandra dee also. RIP to both.

  • How lovely, what nice memories this brings of better days having passed. RIP Bobby, you gave it all you had then some! You are missed but remembered gently on the mind and in the heart.

  • The perfect song choice for this montage!

  • Someone get me a case of Kleenex. Man o Man,,, this is a good one.

  • too beautiful...the way love was meant to be...such a song, such a singer the greatest of great gone too too soon BOBBY DARIN...I miss them both. Thank you for posting.

  • bobby knew his life was going to be short. but you know what? his talent and his performances will live forever. thank you bobby.

  • i acctually feel like crying =/

  • Absolutely fantastic. Thank you

  • What a touching tribute to this star-crossed couple. It was almost like one of his swan songs. I wonder if he felt that the end was coming soon when he sang this, it's strangely prophetic. Once again, a touching tribute to a very talented couple.

  • Bobby Darin received the GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TONIGHT! His son Dodd Darin gave a beautiful speech on his behalf.

  • @apollowoman I knew it was coming on, but I missed that part due to the rest of the crap they had on hte show, I kept changing the channel and by the time I got back, I came in on the end of it all...............DAMN I was pissed....I love Bobby and thought it was LONG in coming...gone to soon....RIP Bobby/Sandy together again......Lady L.

  • @headedsomewhere You didn't miss Dodd's acceptance. They never broadcast it. Too busy with Taylor "in can't carry a tune"Swift.

    Dodd is on youtube.

  • thx for that, will look that up.......God bless

  • Still can't bear to listen to this because of him saying he needs to catch his breath - twice. Just breaks your heart.

  • @liverpoolishgirl yeah..............:(

  • This is just lovely. Thank you for posting.

  • They were two beautiful and talented people, wish they would get more recognition today. Love this video and song. Thank you so much ..........

  • Two of the sweetest people, you ever want

to meet. I had that distinct pleasure, it was a Birthday Surprise, from a dear man,

and he was a good friend to Bobby Darin,

and his Sandy.... a wonderful & Magical

evening, May they all Rest In Peace... Love

you Mr. JW, thanks for that and everything!

I"I Say A Little Prayer for All of you... and

once more, I know, that someday We will

be Together Again!!! Miss you all soo-

your talent and Legacy will be forever more!! Thanks for this Post M

  • @Dee530 Just beautiful. What a Birthday Surprise that was. Sandra and Bobby were two lovely and talented people who sadly seperated tragically. They had the promise of a wonderful life together. Sandra I believe, loved Bobby until the day she died. I think Bobby was lonely for Sandra the rest of his life. They have a son, Dodd who loves his parents and has tried to keep his mother's and father's memories alive and not forgotten.

  • GRAMMY ALERT! Bobby finally gets the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award Jan 30, 2010!

  • Beautiful, excellent singer and a perfect match, tragic.

  • what a great post giving just a slight twinkle of insight to what must have been a great love affair....could Bobby Darin sing or what.....a once in a generation talent....

  • Great, they loved each other so much, they will always be rememberd

  • Oh yeah... now THAT was a "love story".

Fabulous, heart-felt compilation of music and photos. Thanks so much.

  • Thank you, MuirMaiden for putting these videos on YouTube! Very special indeed and ever so enjoyable to watch over and over again.

  • They look like they were made for each other.

  • Read the book: "Dream Lovers: the Magnificent Shattered Lives of Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee" by Dodd Darin.

    It will break your heart.

  • " Bobby was wonderful,"and Sandy, was there ever anyone more pretty or with so much sparkle. "I miss them both."

  • @JordanDurell I agree 100% I'm pretty stable emotionally but lost it when his son Dodd got the lifetime achevement award. What a great spirit that we get to continue to enjoy. They can take your dignity, pride and life but never what you've recorded. Ahh.. actual music... Lvoe you Bobby I'd love to meet you some day somewhere.

  • These were the good times...

  • song leads me to tears, sad."Once upon a time, never comes again." Nice strings' accompaniment.

    Ted deCerchio

  • That was beautiful......very nice job....

  • Bobby forever........

  • They sure looked good together..

  • Impossible to not shed a tear listening to this, knowing we all have our own "once upon a times"........children, lovers, spouses, friends, cousins. Time simply marches on, and all the yesterdays become more precious and cherished.

  • Your videos are special ... many good memories. I have all the movies Sandra Dee made except one called "Until They Sail"

  • It's really difficult to find the words to say how I feel when I see this video and hear this beautiful song. It pulls at my heartstrings til they almost break. Once upon a time the world really was sweeter than we knew. We thought it would last forever. The world was so very different then. Like the movie says, your dreams are like moonbeams, you can do with them whatever you want. Thanks for this wonderful tribute.

  • Sandra Dee was my heroine when I was a teenager - she was one of the most beautiful women in the World IMO

    So naturally beautiful

  • They were angels!!!

  • Muirmaiden, Continue to love your beautiful videos.....So lovely!!!!

  • They eleoped to get married in the 60's.

  • They was very rare in that their love was so romantic they never married anyone else and they was the true love of each other anyone can see that even if they could not stay married to each other it's was a beautiful romance while it lasted

  • Bobby Darin DID remarry. A woman named Andrea Yeager. Sandra did NOT remarry.

  • that may be true but still for each other they was the true love of each other life and that love was still shows even today thank you for correcting me as i did not know that Bobby Darin remarry but i know that Sandra Dee never remarried after the marriage ended

  • Darin married in the 70's to another woman. Divorced her before his death.

  • What a beautiful tribute to Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin. They were such a beautiful couple. His songs were all great. I just loved to hear him sing. This all brings back such sweet memories for me. This was during my college days and the guy I met then I married . We had a beautiful life , He was taken from me last September and September was when we first met.. Vivian

  • i am sorry for your lost, but at least you got to meet an marry and have a life with your true love. i am still wating for true love to come.

  • Lovely...thank you.

  • Miss you........you left us too soon.

  • Wow, lovely video! Bobby and Sandy were a darling couple.

Loved the song, too. It's both beautiful and hauntingly sad.

  • Thanks for uploading this video. What a beautiful couple, beautiful love story of two very lovely people. They were married for 7 years. Sandra Dee never remarried. I think Bobby Darin was her only true love. May their souls rest in peace. They belong to heaven where there's no pain, sickness, sadness & separation.

  • lovely they are like twin spirit coples i love them soooooooooooooooo much

  • They look good together in this photos. That's how I like to remember them. Love Bobby Darrin.

  • i think they were so very in love, sad how it went.

  • Moving tribute to a "once upon a time" "love story"...

  • Dream Lovers what a beautiful tribute, one of the best couples in show biz of all time so sexy so talented....so missed

  • beautiful couple

  • Now the tree is gone. We all move on!

Lirfe destroyed their courtship. You do it all the time. Then Hide! Well it wasn`t me.

  • Once upon a hill We sat beneath a willow tree Counting all the stars And waiting for the dawn But that was once upon a time, Now the tree is gone How the breeze ruffled through her hair How we always laughed As though tomorrow wasn't there... We were young And didn't have a care Where did it go? So beautiful.
  • Yes, it's absolutely beautiful....so poignant, and so very true for the heartbroken among us all...

  • Sniff (wipes tears away...

  • Special

  • What a beautiful, sweet, and glamorous couple. Thanks for the vid Muirmaiden.

  • Darin would come and play the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, NJ at least twice a year in the early 70's. Some people may have considered him brash and arrogant but he was courageous and extremely talented more than anything else. We had oxygen set up off stage that he had access to during his performances. There was not an musical instrument that he could not master and the only song and danceman in his league was Sammy Davis, Jr. Everything that Darin touched he excelled at!

  • You can tell he was very bright from his videos. That cockiness comes from intelligence. Slick and sexy dude he was alright.

  • Bobby ran "circles" around Sammy Davis Jr. Having attended many perforformances by both, Sammy couldn't "hold a candle" to Bobby Darin!!!!

  • this song is great

  • this is so beautiful! i adore bobby but, love when kevin spacey sings it. i once had a precious little golden retriever names chrissy & i cry when i hear this song because we used to sit under a tree and i would wrap my arms around her & just love her. she is now in heaven with bobby & i can not wait to join them - i would love to find a man who loved me like he loved sandy.

  • Lovely song!

Today I was watching the movie

    "Hanging Up" starring Diane Keaton,

    Lisa Kudrow and Meg Ryan...

Anyway my point is that this song was in the movie and I thougth that I just had to listen to it again on Youtube!

  • I know, I watched that too & searched for years to find the song. Even played the film 'Beyond the sea' right through, nice to have this now, even if I cry when I listen to it

  • this song brings back soo many cherish moments of my life. long live bobby darin!!!!

  • once upon a time ,never comes again--how true!

  • This is the best video on You Tube. I watch a lot of all kinds of videos, & this one is so good, so poignant & well made. You should really be proud of it. And that love story between Bobby & Sandy, wow it's very romantic & sad & beautiful & you captured it perfectly.

  • its classy andbeautiful--real music --the way it was suppost to be

  • It's strange to hear this song sung by Bobby Darin. At the same time it is fantastic but heartbreaking. What can you say about Bobby Darin - the candle that burns half as long burns twice as bright.

  • so true, I totally agree, I believe that was why Sandra Dee never married again, why what's the point, her one and only love, heartbreaker :(

    peace

  • A beautiful, touching tribute. Bobby and Sandy are the stuff that dreams are made of.

  • Wonderful tribute! Bravo! * * * * *

  • i see the john Cusack

  • Looking at Bobby Darin's pictures kinda reminds me of actor John Cusack... or is it just me?? Excellent video btw!

  • He reminds me a little of John Lennon. Funny how everybody sees something different.

  • Oh, yeah.....I can definitely see the likeness to John Lennon.....John Cusack? not so much. I think his heart broke in this song, living it the way he did with Sandra. Thanks to Muirmaiden

  • This is one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen. How sad that they both died so young. This is heart wrenching, but your photos of both of them are outstanding! I've

never seen most of them. You must have started

collecting years ago. You put this together

with a great deal of skill and sensativity.

Thankyou for sharing. If you hadn't, just

think of all the people who may have missed

    this wonderful gift.

  • Thank you so much for the lovely compliment. I'm so glad you all enjoy this vid! It really is a labor of love.

  • @whitola she didnt die young, he did

  • What a great tribute to the cutest couple ever to make a movie together. He was such a wonferfully multi-talented man and both so easy to look upon, thanks great video.

  • Aw, I love Bobby & Sandy!! Thanks for this video. I loved Kevin Spacey's Beyond the Sea - quite a tribute to Bobby.

  • Oh man, I am nearly crying. What a great era that was. Thank you.
