How are you so sure his name is Esau, I mean some elements are comparable to that whole legend, but a lot doesn't add up, since neither was really good or evil, and real Esau wasn't really captive in the hands of Jacob, just made to be a servant due to trechery, which he later took back, that and in the legend Esau gets killed by Jacob, not the other way around.

If you know the Bible then you know that Jacob stole his brother, Esau's birthright. Jacob was a trickster and a liar. Esau was the eldest and a hunter but Jacob had his mother's favor who helped him gain his brother's rights. He was a good guy, but he did bad things. When God changed him, he took on the name Israel. I still think Jacob in Lost is the good guy. Locke is the mentally weaker kid in the school yard. He's the one that will follow a bully or in crowd blindly, for acceptance.

esau is a better name than Nemesis because the name is Nemesis is so over used and somebody is called that in Heroes esau is a fiting name for now until his name is reviled. don't be pissed because it's a bible reference it's just a cool name that easy to spell. let not forget lost episode 316. so for now esau is a good name it could have been Able you know but esau fits better.

Jacob believes in the good in people, that they will do the right thing. In the first scene, Esau talks about how the ship that's sailing towards the island is going to bring destruction, corruption, etc. And Jacob disagrees (because he sees the good in people). That's why he saves John Locke.
