Johnny Cash used to go to La Ronge, Sk to fly-in fishing camps. I lived in Saskatoon and La Ronge! Thankyou Johnny Cash and thanks for posting this video with a view of the 'city of bridges' at night! Beautiful skies there, rich with color, especially during months where we see Northern Lights. Nature's ballet! Thanks again, can't help but smile : D
saskatoons the shit, fuck your shit if you dont like it, your just a goof faggot who should get shot n ditched in the dumpster behind the 7 11 on 22nd, fuck alberta, your all a bunch of dirty hicks who sniff oil and gas and have sex with your cousins and skin your dogs
People from other city's across Canada always talk shit about Saskatoon and you ask them have you ever been to Saskatoon and they will mostly say NO then they end up here one day and say the people here are soo nice blah blah blah like wtf im sure places like Vancouver are 5 times as worse for crimes ect.
@hellzyaify Not really. Regina Has to worst Crime Rate. Not long ago A guy robbed a Regina Bank with a knife. Nothing like that had happen in Saskatoon. I've been To Regina. It's fucking Worse than Saskatoon.LOL.
@hellzyaify I live in what is considered a rough area in Saskatoon for 23 years no one has ever attempted to rob me or fuck with me in anyway what so ever so you can take your Wikipedia/MacLean’s stats and shove them up your ass.
Eugene Hutz (lead singer in the band Gogol Bordello) sang this song on October 4, 2009 in Saskatoon. Gogol Bordello was playing a sold-out show and the crowd just went wild when they heard this song. I'm sure most people were hearing it for the first time and once again took pride in a song written abut their city.
It's so sad that the woman that this song is about was murdered. I'm from Saskatoon and her murder was never solved. :( Johnny Cash never sang it again when he heard she died.
To: GrandNagusRom: There is a new book written by Sharon Butala, under the title of "The Girl in Saskatoon." Go to Butala's website--I believe you'll be able to get a copy of the photo.
If he was driving south from Saskatoon he BETTER have been going to Regina. Next major city is Cheyenne, Wyoming!
Cash actually spent a lot of time in Saskatchewan. Often went up to La Ronge for remote fishing. The guides, etc., would comp the entire trip for him but he had to play a small concert in return.
he Girl was killed shortly later, the one he sang it to when he was there, they are trying to find a picture of Johnny and Alexandra Wiwcharuk, that's her name for her family.
This is truly a great song. It shows that the Man in Black not only had a songwriting talent, but also a beautiful voice; something you can hear in this wonderful song.
Johnny Cash was about 41 years old when he recorded this song. In my opinion his was voice was never better as during that period. All the songs on this album was recorded at his personal studio, mostly in 1973 and then subsequently at his leisure. Just a lone voice (but what a voice!) and an acoustic guitar, singing songs and telling stories about them.
One of my favorite songs..Thanks for posting it. When I was in 5th Grade I wrote a story about Saskatoon..just because I'd always remembered this song. I'm 31 now.
"North to Alaska" is not strange to this melody.
