  • Actually, they brought 4960 back. :)

  • so what are the plans with steam today

  • @Strasburg1991 People still try hard to keep them running. And people also make new miniature live steam engines. So, it's going pretty well. :)

  • IRM GET CB&Q #4963 HER SISTER #4960, 4960 DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE IN STORAGE!

  • R.I.P

    Mikado 4960

She was a good engine just like the surviving ones.

  • I think the Abilene and Smokey Valley Railway, in Kansas, should buy her. They have a running steamer. ATSF 3415.

  • Fortunately, 4960 has returned to service, but only on a limited basis... she's been converted to burn Waste Vegetable Oil and will pull a special excursion to the South Rim on Saturday, Sept. 19th to commemorate the railroad's 20th anniversary of tourist service...

  • Awesome. It makes it sound like it will only be used for special events, but that's still better than nothing.

  • Actually, she made 1 more trip after this one. The last fire was lit in her on the 21st. If i remember correctly. I sure do miss the GCR. Really miss 29 as well as 4960. Got to fire both of them and would not trade that for anything in the world.

  • Thanks for the correction. You're quite lucky to have had those experiences, I'll agree with that for sure.

  • yea i guess

  • Well, I hope 29 & 4960 go to the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railroad, a.k.a., the Reading, Blue Mountain, & Northern for special use. It really sucks that the GCRY ended steam. ;-( Rest in peace, GCRY steam.

  • ya i hope the california and western railroad buys it that would be awesome

  • actually they might get used on special trips and they might sell #4960 california and western wants it

  • That'd be good if it could still stay in active service, even if it wasn't where I could see it easily.

  • The GCRY would at least make a last dime off of her. I want her active, not rusting.

  • @wippydobo321 you mean California Western railroad? they alrady have an operational steam engine.

  • Is the GCR 4960 being in a museum.
