Rrxingrick, I miss the gate lantern I saw on your 12/14/07 video of this signal. When I was growing up in the 50"s and 60's, I vividly recall the lanterns that swung with the position of the gatearm. They are hard to find and you removed it from the signal-why? I bought a set of three six months ago on ebay and have them hooked up in our cellar. Today's gatelights look like turn signals off of a car/truck. Do you not have a set of 3 you can put back on the gate? Mayaerie
Is that the USA standard? The Dispatcher (Signalman) clears the signal before the crossing and that closes it. Are crossings guarded by cameras? We see silly people limbo dancing under barriers here in the UK (as in Poole, Dorset) at the crossing through the centre of town.
US crossings are controlled through track circuitry. Modern signals use high tech electrical gear to 'guess' when the train will be at the crossing given its speed and distance, and turn the signals on at a predetermined time away from crossing occupation.
Good guess. You have the right idea. Believe it or not, its actually a Safetran Searchlight Signal. They are only common in certain areas. They have multi colored lights behind the cover.
Yep. Only in certain areas where rail traffic is mostly freight. Passenger train lines most commonly use standard Safetran Systems Gantry bridges or standard double headed or single headed signals because they are far more visible and understandable than searchlight signals.
No lol. I think your confused, budd. The light on the crate is not a wig-wag. Its a Searchlight Signal. A searchlight signal is a certain type of railroad traffic signal like we have for cars, but its ued for trains lol. Im saying that searchlight signals can only be seen in certain areas. You can find plenty of wig-wag gate flashers around. They havent completely faded out yet. I hope I cleared up what I meant, budd. Peace.
Does your searchlight have the phankill unit or is it just the outer doublet I'm seeing here?
