I have got to see this anime already. I have read about it, heard my friend RAVE about it, and am aware of how awesome it's supposed to be, except I have not watched it yet. Also, is it true that this version of Ode to Joy is being played during the episode where the world is almost completely destroyed. If it is, it seems quite fitting. I wonder how Beethoven would have felt about it being used as Apocalypse music. Whatever, this song is so beautiful.

I understand that fully. Ode to Joy is my favorite classical piece and it's so beautiful. (I wish I knew the lyrics but there in German, even though I can speak German it's only insults and common phrases. However, I know exactly what the lyrics are in English XP). I just started watching this anime and I love it so far. No, but what I like about Ode to Joy is that because it's about uniting man against the forces that aim to destroy us, it would be an awesome song...

@ghostsoldier45bt Watch the movie "End of Evangelion". I warn you now, there is no closure in the ending. However, there's the Rebuild of Evangelion films that are retelling the story differently, there will be 4 but only 2 are out now. And the 2nd one is pretty different and super awesome.

This contrasted with the nature of the events in the anime, but was relevant as it seems almost angelic (fighting against the angels, remember). It was all part of the psychological messing around the series did, in my opinion, quite well.

The way this song, and other classical songs contrasted the events of what was happening when they were played emphasized the beauty of that scene. Not once when I've watched a video of Evangelion have I seen people blagging on and on about how good it is. I could understand if someone reccomended it to you and it wasn't all cracked up as it was supposed to be, but I'd suggest you give it another try and read deeper into it.

@AChan853 I did like you said and watched the first few episodes again this time with my mind a blank slate, it is a very good anime but it is a little heavy on the symbolism, but that understandable, some of my favorite animes have unnecessary symbolism. ex.(Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebop, Paranoia Agent, Welcome to the NHK, Ghost in the Shell) and they are all very good, so no i dont consider this one of the best animes ever, but it is still very entertaining.

Wolf's Rain (around the end) and Welcome to the NHK did mess with my head a bit. If you don't find it one of the best animes ever then that's fine. Glad you find it entertaining.

@whiteraven011 Yeah Paranoia agent confused the heck outta me lol, I couldn't make head or tails of it. I loved Cowboy Bebop for its symbolism, although I've never seen Wolf's rain or Welcome to the NHK. Ghost in the Shell has some really good moments, but I couldn't get into it sadly.
