@winthroppershing A character in Episode 24 engages in a daring invasion while "Ode to Joy" plays. Mainly because they ran out of money to write any of their own music.
If there's anything Evangelion and Read or Die have taught us, it's that Beethoven's Ode to Joy works in ANY anime; ESPECIALLY during fights and explosions!
I have got to see this anime already. I have read about it, heard my friend RAVE about it, and am aware of how awesome it's supposed to be, except I have not watched it yet. Also, is it true that this version of Ode to Joy is being played during the episode where the world is almost completely destroyed. If it is, it seems quite fitting. I wonder how Beethoven would have felt about it being used as Apocalypse music. Whatever, this song is so beautiful.
@TruthinessChibiOtaku Technically this is played in the episode (#24) before the end starts (25' and 26') , but this is still best scene in the anime for me. Komm susser tod by Arline was used for the apocalypse secquence.
@TruthinessChibiOtaku its not apocalyptic in the end of the world sense, what the writer of the lyrics to this song was aiming for is far more complex. He intended this song to express the unities of man through horrible tragedies such as the Apocalypse. its all in the lyrics.
I understand that fully. Ode to Joy is my favorite classical piece and it's so beautiful. (I wish I knew the lyrics but there in German, even though I can speak German it's only insults and common phrases. However, I know exactly what the lyrics are in English XP). I just started watching this anime and I love it so far. No, but what I like about Ode to Joy is that because it's about uniting man against the forces that aim to destroy us, it would be an awesome song...
@TruthinessChibiOtaku I think it would be better if it were like the Shawshank Redemption. Just soaking up the music through the feeling instead of the words meaning themselves. I don't know what they are saying but I don't think I really want to. Emotions can paint a better picture than any words can.
@timoteoman13 Ach. I need to see that film already. And I totally agree with you there. Most of the songs I love and don't know the lyrics by heart, I just memorize the melody which puts me in the mood it's intended to put me in when I'd be watching it.
dose anyone know were i can actually finish the evangelion, i still dont know if i actually finished it or not i only got the episode were shinji actually accepts himself as a person and everyone is happy for him im still not sure if thats the ending or not so if you do know were i can finish it please reply
@ghostsoldier45bt Watch the movie "End of Evangelion". I warn you now, there is no closure in the ending. However, there's the Rebuild of Evangelion films that are retelling the story differently, there will be 4 but only 2 are out now. And the 2nd one is pretty different and super awesome.
is this supposed to be a song about coming together because it fits with violent things pretty well in my opinion (p.s don't send me hate mail because i don't wanna deal with assholes)
@whiteraven011 because when it was used, the metaphorical shit was going down. This contrasted with the nature of the events in the anime, but was relevant as it seems almost angelic (fighting against the angels, remember). It was all part of the psychological messing around the series did, in my opinion, quite well.
@whiteraven011 I'd hardly call Evangelion "over rated". The way this song, and other classical songs contrasted the events of what was happening when they were played emphasized the beauty of that scene. Not once when I've watched a video of Evangelion have I seen people blagging on and on about how good it is. I could understand if someone reccomended it to you and it wasn't all cracked up as it was supposed to be, but I'd suggest you give it another try and read deeper into it.
@AChan853 I did like you said and watched the first few episodes again this time with my mind a blank slate, it is a very good anime but it is a little heavy on the symbolism, but that understandable, some of my favorite animes have unnecessary symbolism. ex.(Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebop, Paranoia Agent, Welcome to the NHK, Ghost in the Shell) and they are all very good, so no i dont consider this one of the best animes ever, but it is still very entertaining.
@whiteraven011 Well, that's fair enough then. I'm glad you actually went and did that, I thought for a bit that most people would turn around and bite my head off, haha. Wolf's Rain (around the end) and Welcome to the NHK did mess with my head a bit. If you don't find it one of the best animes ever then that's fine. Glad you find it entertaining.
@whiteraven011 Yeah Paranoia agent confused the heck outta me lol, I couldn't make head or tails of it. I loved Cowboy Bebop for its symbolism, although I've never seen Wolf's rain or Welcome to the NHK. Ghost in the Shell has some really good moments, but I couldn't get into it sadly.
@Inuyashapupped Well i highly recommend Wolf's Rain, in my opinion it is one of the greatest and most depressing animes ive ever seen. and welcome to the NHK is more of just a comedy but it has alot of well placed symbolism and alot of trippy "i dont know whats going on" moments.
After Beethoven had finished writing this piece, the first time it was performed in a concert hall, Beethoven sat next to the conductor and when the concert was over the crowd went wild. The conductor had to tap Beethoven on the shoulder to let him know the piece was finished and to accept his applause because he could not hear them. Or so story says.
@sejasdeasotador Poor Kaworu. It's kind of our fault, we're the one that took the planet from his Dad against his will. Really, if you look at it a certain way, humans are the alien invaders, they're just trying to take what's theirs back from us.
Why do people think Evangelion is deep? Just cause they threw in some religious symbolism and orchestra music (Which is good orchestra music) Doesn't make the show deep. If you take away the religious symbolism, it's just another Gundam rip-off.
@UchuuKeijiRaidanjin damn right, Gundam is THE Real Robot series, and Evangelion is more a deconstruction of piloted Super Robot shows, such as getter robo, and mazinger z
@Zortkiya The first cartoon ever that had giant robots fighting :DDD And before anyone says anything, Transformers came out in the early 80's while Gundam came out in the late 70's X3
@SiriusWolfStudios Those are the BIBLICAL Lilim! I was referring to the Lilim of the series "Neon Genesis Evangelion", the soundtrack of which this song is taken from.
