As to why Shakila didn't get much fame. Well, it's not just about talent but also about "Marketing" yourself. Madhubala had Chandulal Shah to promote her as child actress. Meena Kumari married Kamal Amrohi a producer and director. Geeta Bali was attached to writer, producer Kidar Sharma. Nargis was having an affair with Raj Kapoor(top actor producer etc etc). Surviving in film industry is a battle, especially for women.

Hello Yuan. Shakila was from Afghanistan. Very beautiful and one of the top talented actresses. She got married and left the industry for abroad to settle down. Incidently, I was in "non disposables" when that happened. LOL.

Shakila was indeed a talented actress. She acted with many top stars, and yet never got the rating or fame she deserved. Looking back, I realize her true measure, but while growing up I accepted her B grade rating the media projected (my shortcoming). This flighty song, one of Geeta's best! I don't know how to classify her voice quality or her technical skill, except to say "very special" or "one of a kind". Thanks Yuan. 4-9-10

Shakila :Shakila' bungalow used to be located at Mira Bagh in the Santa Cruz area of Mumbai. Shakti Samant's and Ravi's Bungalows were also there. But in place of Shakila's, a tall building has come up after the demolition of her Bungalow.Her sister, Noor Lives in the Lokhandwala Complex at Andheri West, Mumbai.Noor was the second actress in Mohabbat Karlo Jee Bhar Lo in Aar Paar

Shakila was one of the most beautiful actresses to grace Indian cinema. I am an absolute fan of her and regret the fact that she never got the kind of fame that we associate with Waheeda Rehman, Madhubala or Meena Kumari. Btw, does anybody know anything about her personal life..? I haven't found any info on the net.

Along with Ashaji's song Aaiye Meherban in Howrah Bridge(1958), sung on Madhubala and acted out by Madhu in an unforgettably beautiful and sensuous style, this number by Geeta Dutt , sung on Shakila is to me another memorable cabaret song from old Bombay. And Shakila projects her own sensuality in full measure here. Yet the sensuality in neither instance degenerates into anything coarse or vulgar. That's what I love about old movies.A very lovely upload, Yuan.
