The manner of stoning for a convicted man is deliberately made longer, and more agonising, as more of his body is deliberately left exposed for the stoning (i.e. less of his body is submerged in the ground than a woman's). However, as far as I am aware, Iranian courts tend to sentence convicted adulterers to hanging far more often than to stoning.
