When you see this sort of thing, you just can't help thinking that voting rights should be earned - for example having to pass some sort of exam. Elitist, certainly - but in the same way that we don't believe that everyone has the right to perform surgery on us.

It's weird too because at some level you say everyone has the right to vote but then you're really putting the lives of the intelligent into the hands of the brain dead aren't you? because 90% of the people voting are not going to have the first clue about what they are voting for except for the propaganda they swallow during the running for this and that. Just like a jury, you life shouldn't depend on 12 redneck retards.

@TruthSurge Yes, I think one of reasons that science is so successful is that it is not democratic, it is meritocratic. Your ideas only get taken on board if they have merit. Not everyone in the scientific community get a 'vote'. It is only the people with expert knowledge in that field who get to make those decisions via the peer review process.
