Big thumbs up for your commitment to our planet! I am somewhat interested in solutions like this because for years I've toyed with the idea of living in a van, travelling the entire continent, and writing. To those who think that you are strange I would say that you are in fact strange, and that is a good thing because the world would suck if it were full of cookie-cutter-type people.
Thanks! I really appreciate your efforts in "walking your talk" and implement environmentally friendly options at home. I'm sorry for all the negative (and sometimes pretty stupid comments), but they rather reflect on the commenter than on the technology. Thumbs up and best wishes!
I only just saw all these comments on my video (I don't normally check the youtube videos often). It is funny to see how different people in the USA think. Some people very advanced (in my view), some people very aggressive!! Believe it or not, in Sweden these toilets are pretty common in summer houses! And now, it does not smell because a) urine and faeces are separated and b) no water is added (ever thought about the fact that dry faeces don't smell?) and c) there is a ventilation fan.
@emilykbisignano I was never able to find any instructions on how to build your own. I bought the urine separating seats and did my own thing. I was worried it would'nt work but they turned own great! No stink and very clean. Here at our ranch we get 50-100 visitors daily on the weekends and even with the heavy use they stay odor free.
Laugh if you want. I wonder how long it will be in the U.S. before more people are using these. I know there are a lot of people made homeless by the recession that wished they had one of these systems right now. I have used one of these systems, with the same type of comments. People laughed, but when they visited the place, they could not smell a difference.
People have had it too good for too long. Not too long ago, probably just a couple of generations back our ancestors would have loved this. Someday as population grows and water becomes more scarce, we may appreciate this even more. Thanks for your video!
scuse me I'm very interested in your system I found the brand for the toilet but I can't find the urine unit where or what brand to buy???? thank you this is the future no matter what we want or desire!!!!!!!! :) thank you for share.......
Glad im not a vegan or else i might have been forced to eat from your garden where you drop human feces. Well hey neighbor my toilet line jammed up you wanna come get this shit out of my toilet you can have it for free with a smile :)
I'm not a vegan either, but wow are you ignorant. You do know that fertile soil (the kind that grows vegetables that humans and livestock (you know, your meat) eat) is made from the excretions (feces) of worms, insects, and other small organisms, as well as large animals and humans. Yes, dirt is made from naturally processed dead stuff and shit. Look in the shitter the next time you have a good healthy deuce, looks like mud huh? Hope you die of thirst with the rest of them.

Hey,nice set up,I use a compost toilet where both parts go in then covered with sawdust, then composted,I dont like going in fresh clean drinking water, then finding the deposits on the beach!
Gross! All I see is urine in those barrels, where is the feces? Speakng of the barrels, how the hell do you get them out of there when they are full, cause you know they are going to be heavy? And what do you do with the urine and stuff, cause that can't be good to dump it on the ground? It just seems like a hassel, and it's nasty.
@luckybear3822 transport with hand cart. And it is good for plants when diluted. Shouldnt sit long though ammonia gets high due to nitrates. Better for ground organisms than the waterways.
it would also be good for you to know how much fresh water is wasted producing that camera you hold, and that notebook you used to upload this video to youtube. try be more sensible.
Judging from the comments below, it's apparently not understood by many why minimizing water usage is very important to the environment. Whenever travel to the US, I feel guilty everytime I flash the toilet.

@shorn5270 I've also made a waterless toilet here in Mexico. It doesn't smell and is very sanitary.

Is there an affordable compost/dry toilet for an off-grid home? I did find a website on how to build your own :D

My wife and I plan to retire to a 500 square foot floating cabin in Canada. I plan to use a compost toilet or dry one like this.
I have found that a 5 gallon pail with a few cups of water and lots of vinegar keeps the shed urinal odor free for months.
Vinegar is an amazing cleaner and sterilizer.

I understand that it takes time to change human behavior, if at all, but this is either jumping the gun on change or just plain ridiculous!
