  • Green screen or real, who cares? :)

Main thing is to have fun, isn't it?

And then is not so hard to take a drums in a wood..

    Cool job!

  • Thanks :-) You're right, it's really not a big deal to bring such a small drum kit to the woods, I was home within 2 hours!

  • Absolutely incredible. At first I was a bit skeptical about the authenticity of the environment you're playing in but I'm pretty sure it's real. The lighting very slowly gets darker.

  • Outstanding:)

  • I thought I saw Bigfoot behind you with a Fender P Bass

  • Hahaha, that's a good one :-)

  • This is NOT in the jungle....computer enhanced backdrop.........you nerds

  • I kind of regret tying up the dogs on a tree during the recording, that would have been prove enough to see them running by :-) Well, as I said before, please check the mic cables on the left and you'll see that this was indeed in the forest, temperate rain forest in British Columbia btw., that's where I live. No computer enhancement necessary. And yeah, watch the hi-hat stand moving on the mossy ground, which freaked me out while playing. Cheers Ydna

  • @Jungleritter "this was indeed in the forest, temperate rain forest"

    Still not a jungle.

  • You know, it's a word game, Jungle/Drum&Bass, not to taken to literally...

  • @hickrystyk Get a grip, its in the woods ya mug. No CGI insight.. blantently

  • That snare sound must be what it sounds like to achieve enlightenment.

  • If you look closely, you will notice that he's not actually in the jungle

  • That was very cool. Check out my vid for a fresh take on "groove".

  • Are you sure this isn't a studio set up with a green screen utilized to get a forest backdrop?

Cause it kind of looks like it (lighting etc. doesn't quite match, though it's hard to tell with 480p)

  • Yeah, it's amazing how unreal it looks, but if you look closely you can see the two mic cables on the left side running to the zoom r16 I used for remote recording. You can also see the hi-hat and snare drum moving because of the mossy ground. Take care Ydna

  • OMG U SUCK UR A N00B I CAN BLASTBEAT 290 BPM!

....is exactly the kind of thing you wont be hearing from me! because you sir, are almost as awesome as big stripper boobs.

(i cant blastbeat and nor would i want to. would much rather work on ghost notes)

  • Did you say ALMOST as awesome as big stripper boobs? Damn, I have to practice more....

  • @Jungleritter no drumming could be as good as big stripper boobs, but the best drumming comes close :-p

  • @heinzie5 video yourself then and backup ya worthless chat

  • @SKIDAROO wow, someone obviously gave up on learning to read a little too soon....

  • ydna,I did the sound of your hi hats, can you tell me what kind they are. Just downloaded a few tracks can't wait to tear it up. Also enjoying your D & B book man, thank you for spreading the love. Sick drumming too, I love how your still vibrating after you finish playing.

  • Thanks mate, I appreciate it :-) The hi-hats I used in this video are very old Ufips, made in 1939. They are probably hard or impossible to get nowadays, I was lucky to find a pair :-)

  • 赞~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • is there anywhere i can get some samples? i love your sound!

  • you´re in a forest not a jungle

  • @antibulletdodger101 Haha what a douche

  • Holy crap, I thought this was green screen until I saw the cables. haha awesome video dude!

  • I know, it doesn't look real until you take a close look, next time I'll hire a deer or something :-)

  • What if a monkey came and challenged you?

  • Well, we don't have monkey's here, that's good :-)

  • @TheBIGTLIVE lol, dude!

  • an den drums bist du echt gut... beim produzieren kann ich das eher nicht so sagen. trotzdem finde ich das video klasse und auch die anderen video-lessons. cheers!

  • Now that's what you call jungle drum and bass =)

  • drum mics ina jungle? what power source? did you plug it into a tree? haha jk awesome drumming tho

  • Thanks :-) I've been using the Zoom R16 which is an 8track machine that can run on batteries, very handy recorder especially for things like that.

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • for some reason i don't think hes actually in a jungle??

  • Hahaha, nope, not a jungle although it's called temperate rainforest. It's funny how the whole thing looks a bit unreal (like a photo wall paper ) but if you look close you can see the mic cables running in the left corner. Take care

  • YOU ARE A GENIOUS MATE

  • Veryyyyy Coool! and great concept. thanks for sharing!!!!

  • Thanks mate :-)

  • what snare is that? i love the sound

  • That's a 10" Mapex Black Panther snare, wood shell.

  • @Jungleritter sweet as thanks. its got a really fast quick crisp sound to it. im only just getting into this sort of drumming, i normally jam out to jazz n metal but then i find myself just playing this kinda stuff.

  • dude your NUTS. I subbed thats for sure!

  • siiick.. benny greb influence? :)

  • Nothing wrong with that :-) We had the same drum teacher, we taught at the same school (Hamburg School Of Music). Great guy and one of my favourite drummers.

  • @Jungleritter Excellent!! Well, I'll be running through your lessons as well! Thank you! (loved the dubby feel of it too)

  • i refer to ydna as my drum instructor!

thanx for all the lessons, you've broke a lot things down for me that i used to struggle with..

    peace

  • Thanks, that's great to hear :-)

    Take care

    Ydna

  • i do that freestyle i think it is a lot of fun to make drum and base with drums. and messing up happens like you said you messed up a few times cause of the mossy ground. i just go into it mess up every time i try to switch the beat up. i can hear it in my head but getting your hands to move like that is the difficult part. but a shit load of fun.

  • you should remix it anfd make the drums a little louder. at least the bass drum

  • those hats are crazy, what kind are they?

  • Well, they are indeed really nice for this kind of music. These are very old Ufip's, made 1939 :-)

  • @Jungleritter wow! very special

  • This is awesome man !! What's the tempo ?

  • Thanks mate :-) I think it's 179 Bpm....

  • cool man !!! propah space! the sound is great

  • lol drumming in the jungle hehehe love it!!

  • I really need the minus drums

  • hahaha this is awesome, man!

  • But that's not a jungle, that's a forest. *Pops balloon*

  • your hihat sounds very interesting, great drumming!

  • Awesome!!!

  • Nice

  • (cont) cos he definately aint NO Cheetah!

  • If he was any more Jungle we would have to call him TARZAN!

  • Jungle is MASSIVE! (literally). haha.

  • Cool! Jungle in the jungle. :-)

Was there a flat pathway to that location or did you have to slowly cross over the tree trunks and vegetation?

  • It's actually really close to a logging road, that's right next to a mountain bike trail in our area, really nice forest there and I set up only a few feet away from a waterfall. It was fun to play the drums there..

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • Damn that was intense o.O Respect and greetz from Magdeburg, Germany !

  • Jo, vielen Dank :-)) Gruesse zurueck aus Kanada!

    Ydna

  • yes..the jungle in the jungle...tres bon level..

  • Mistakes? What mistakes? Man, you sound great and you make it look so easy! What an awesome place to play drums!

  • Thanks mate :-) These hi-hats are very old ones from Ufip Italy, made in 1939, they sound nice for this kind of music. I used a Zoom R16 for recording, a AKG D112 for the Kick and a Shure SM 57 for the Snare (which captured the hi-hat as well). I had to work on the sound afterwards a bit since the hi-hat and snare were on one track. And of course some eq, compression, noise gate, the usual suspects :-)

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • @Jungleritter thanks for the details(kit drum & materials), very good mentality...peace,respect & love music^^

  • wow, beautiful!

you sound better than ever before! what kind of hihats do you use? how did you record this? just two mics? like the ambiance:-) love it

  • Ydna, Hell yes! Oh man The high hat work!!!!! I'm going to the site and order a book right now! Which book would you recommend for a beginner to this style?

  • Thanks mate :-) The Breakbeat Guide drum book works for beginners as long as you have some basic notation readings skills, like being able to read quarter, 8th note and 16th notes. The book starts easy and builds up, it has 200 pages, so it offers a lot, enough to keep you practicing D&B for months, if not years :-)

    Take care

    Ydna

  • Holy!!!!

    btw awesome background!

  • Cool man, very nice ! Do you do the music track to ?

  • Thank you :-) Yes, I produced the music in all of my videos, except for the three drum cover vids.

  • @Jungleritter Cool I like, it's one of my best I listen from you but I don't listen all. I product my first cd d'n'b dubstep with true drum I play, when it go out I will tell you, I think you can like to. We have no video right now of what he have on my album because it's suprise hahaha Have nice day man !

  • as always, a great video, my friend!

  • this is totally awesome!

  • greaaaaaaaaaat! ist a good live at excelent! :O

  • So yeah. This is about a sick as it gets! I like this!

  • Powell River??? I thought you were from somewhere across the ponds!?!?!

Nice job...must have been fun to do....fan from Vancouver Island.

  • Where on the island? I will do some masterclasses and a clinic at Harbour City Music in Nanaimo at the end of August, maybe that's something for you?

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • @Jungleritter Comox Valley....oh really what dates?

  • It's in the making, probably Saturday the 27th.

  • @Jungleritter okay well would love a confirmation...something I would be into...thanks Ydna

  • Add me on facebook if you can, it's easier to stay in touch and spread the news. Just look for "Ydna Murd" and drop me a line there, thanx :-)

  • wonderful acoustic in the jungle :)

  • Comment removed

  • absolut dope! die location is murder, drums auch :)

  • As usual brother this is brilliant and a great tune love the drumming keep inspiring!!

  • Thanx mate, I really appreciate your support!

  • HAHA - Amazing how you can be in the woods for 10 minutes, and not a leaf moves, a bird flies by or a bug buzzes. I would say the drums were played and then inserted over a a fake background - like a screen-saver - just sayin

  • Hahaha, yeah, I know, it's pretty weird. It's of course not a fake background, if you look closely you can see the 2 mic cables on the left side of the screen laying there. Also the way the hi-hat moves, you can see that I was sitting on a rather mossy ground and the drums are moving all the time. Next time I will rent a squirrel or something or pick a windy day :-)

  • In the jungle?? I'd rather say forrest

  • Well, I don't live in Brazil...

  • Awesome!!

  • Sick man, so clean. Haha I always thought it would be fun to record drum covers in random as places. I might go one better and do it on top of one of the Pyramids! :D

  • Got to love Powell River forests, eh Andreas?

  • Awesome! Just bought this from CDBaby, can't wait to try it out on the kit tomorrow! Also I saw you had a whole album of other tracks on CDBaby...I love the tunes on there, but the cowbell click track really ruins the sound...will you be releasing a version without the click like this track is? I'd definitely buy that!

  • Thanx mate :-) Some of the break down's in the other playalongs might be hard to play without the click, but I will think about it.

Cheers and have fun with the track!

    Ydna

  • this is epic

    can you please do more??

  • you mic`d the drums obviously ...but i am curious ..how did the drums sound in the forest naturally ...without mic`s and eq and all ... be honest

  • Drums in the forest are surprisingly really loud! I made a vid a while ago that's called I'm gonna drum you dizzy where you can hear an unmiked drum in the forest. The bassdrum I used in this vid isn't very good so I had to boost the sound but the snare drum and the hi-hat sounded really awesome at the location. I had to work on the sound but mainly because I used only one mike for snare and hat. To get the right balance I had to eq it. I would love to do a drum clinic one day in the woods...

  • Epic :P

  • What the fuck is all this arguing over snares and snare stands? Are you people dense?

  • the TRUE jungleritter haha awesome

  • you should do more of this man!!!

  • thats alot of d&b in alot of jungle... hella awesome as always!

  • Hey man how are you holding up that rack tom?

  • @ihaveabox it's a snare mate .... he's using a snare stand

  • @allmetaliswelcome dude i use a tom on my snare stand, its a snare because it has a snare below

  • @S1ckn3ss13 i didn't say it was a snare because of the stand :P

but it's a snare, he only uses a kick, hat and snare

  • @allmetaliswelcome i know dude just messing with u :P

  • @ihaveabox o shit thats a snare? i thought it was a tom since its so high and theres a snare behind it lol

  • very nice bro!

  • Play and dont stop!

  • at 1:00 thats some dirty bass, as always great playing!

  • tu mano izquierda es exelente felicidades Amigo =)

  • very very nice!! 5*

  • did you get all the bears raving? :P

  • Hahaha, I was hoping a bear or even a cougar would show up to make it more exciting but nothing moved in this forest as soon as I started playing :-))
