  • I tried to figure out what led to Peter's (geriatric1927) success. I am the same age, and I too was in the army in WW2, albeit on the other side, but I can't figure it out, and his stories aren't all that interesting. Go figure. I am lucky if I get 20 comments??

  • The music distracted from your words.

  • Way to ride someone else's fame like you ride the phalluses of other men. Fag Pimp.

  • I have been gone and no clue what you are talking about. :) I am going to have to find this guys profile.

  • how can you not, he blew brookers away in less than a week or so

  • to Brad Pitt!

  • can you believe it... that .001 millisecond shot - and now reporters are knocking down my door. ;)

  • great video, i like the props given, though he has become a phenomenon... #1 subscribed in 1 1/2 weeks... he will set the bar that Brookers originally set, and will destroy every1s subscribed list, give it a month, he will double Brookers.. it will take a damn long time for him to get toppled off #1... and this is exactly the videos I like,,, real life...

  • He'll easily continue his meteoric rise... in part due to the fact that he's caused the mainstream media to get involved. And right on for him - just a good guy telling stories of real life and real history.

  • Great music..great video....and great discussion in the comments. I always learn something new when I visit theIronVox channel. It is pretty amazing how fast something or someone can rise to fame on youtube....and always interesting to watch how they handle it.

  • Excellent! Thanks, great vibe.

  • Other than you being a great guy, you always feature great music in your vids!

  • dove95: thanks... I try to mix it up a little...

  • Heh when I saw the news report I knew I had seen your video before so thought I'd tell you ^_^

  • You were in the news for a splitsecond ;p

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPrqsBMzW6s&watch_response

  • Haplo1986 - SWEET!!!! My first TV appearance. Dude thanks a ton for informing me about that one

  • Doth mine eyes deceive me? The iron Vox hath posted two longish vlogs in a row? You've said more in these two than in all your other videos put combined, and as it turns out.. you're a great single take vlogger!

As for geriatric1927, he's a gentleman and YouTube is always terribly short on those. I hope he isn't overtasked with his sudden and unexpected recognition. I know I would totally freak out if I were in his shoes.

  • AericWinter: well, I've been taking vlogging lessons 101. I just figured I'd try something a little different. geriatric1927 has my vote in partial since I'm a big history buff. But I agree with you, I'd freak out too.

  • Admit it. Vlog veteran lisasimpson has bribed you with the possibility of giving you free vlogging lessons 101. I knew it! Can't blame you though, I'd have done it, too. (c;

And yes, "living history" is splendid. It's just that the last place I'd expected it, was YouTube. This site never ceases to amaze me.

  • Completely awesome.

  • Damn your good! so far the two recomendations you have made (Aericwinter, and now geriatric1927) have made a great impact on me.

Could you start rating movies too?

  • Okay I just watched. Yeah this is great when a guy like this is successful. He's so humble, even if people didn't like his vids, you couldn't possibly hate this guy unless your a total prick.

  • rashb: I think people like him to because he's like the iconic youTube grandpa. Not to mention, it's different than 99% of other people here

  • I've never heard of this guy, but now I'm gonna go watch him.

  • That could be you in 50 years ;)

But seriously I'd only seen the video that got featured, (I'm watching the others now) - didn't realise he'd made such an impact.

  • jl123us: ya, but in 50 years it will be like hologram youTube.

  • I am totally loving these candid blogs of yours!! I want more!! :)

  • lisasimpson: sometime I gotta switch it up a little

  • Great vid, and I like the new pic.

  • I can never get tired of hearing "how things used to be" from older folks. He has all the qualities of a star...sharp, cool, and very spunky! Perhaps that is why he caught everyones eye?

  • I've been hearing alot about him(Geriatric1927)lately, I'll have to check him out. I love the bluesy music and the guitars!! We have(my boyfriend actually)a charvelle and some acoustic...I'm off to check out Geri!!!!

  • sherry: make sure to check his latest vid... it's the one where he talks a little bit about history and response to the overwhelming surge of the 4000 and growing subscribers

  • I just can't imagine what is going through his head... he reaches out on youTube to start some conversations and what not and the whole world responds almost overnight. I can't even imagine

  • He got me so touched that I was lost for words and couldn't spell right. I'm trying to imagine how he feels too. Man, don't we all feel good for him? I sure do. This happens only once in a lifetime for any man. He so very well deserves our community love.

  • ok, thanks... let me go check him out! Where the hell have I been?

  • Oh, ok! That's who you're talking about. Yeah, I found him on the feature list area thingie. He's hella cool. My hats off to him too!

  • Dude, I just lost his latest video. He made me cry at the end!

  • As I saw the featured video this morning, I watched his other videos and read his profile and I was speechless. He sure is something unique on YouTube, but his videos aren't that mindblasting. I have to admit, that peer pressure forced me to subscribe, and because I really want to see, what happens next to him, and I think that's the point because of which most people subscribed.

  • And I think this incident was unique too, or was there something crazy like this before? This "meteoric rise to e-fame"?

But in a certain, uncomfortable way, this sudden popularity dilutes my feeling, that geriatric shows, that YouTube really is an opportunity for many people, not matter what age, profession etc., to be connected to the world. Although this aspect even supports the thesis, when you see it objectively. It kind of confuses me...

  • Redfrettchen: I think it's just the fact that he talks about different things and offers a totally different perspective than the normal demographic here. He offers a unique value when he discusses history - at least from my perspective.

  • Good point!

His point of view is something special (if I understood your reply right). And because he is (correct me if I'm wrong) unique on YouTube regarding his age, the interest in this kind of perspective concentrates on him.

But I feel a bit uncomfortable to watch his videos because they're the only ones which provide this certain perspective and not because I really want to watch the person behind the perspective. He's interesting but I just like plurality and the freedom of choice.

  • Redfrettchen: I think people admire his character for joining this typically younger social movement. But at the same time, an older perspective will by nature be limited to the far fewer in his demographic that are able to voice their opinion via this new medium. The thing that makes me happy is that all these people embrace new perspectives and his character in particular.
