  • Is it true that fresh water green spotted puffer fish require a certain amount of salt to survive? I was told this by a worker at PetCo, but he was unsure as to which breed of fresh water GSP this applies to.

  • @BlackCaScorpio I've had them do ok in pure freshwater but they are truly brackish water fish and you should definitely put some salt in the tank. Doesn't necessarily have to be what you'd call "brackish" but trying to keep one in pure freshwater is a crapshoot, doesn't have the fish's best interest at heart and once they start to deteriorate they don't always recover even if you give them salt. It's a sad thing to watch too.

  • do they live in freshwater because in the other video the guy said they die in freshwater and live better in brackish?

  • By saying pitbull of the fish world I hope you mean it is extremely friendly cause pitbulls aren't mean at all but back to the topic of watching the GSP..you have a nice one and how big is the tank?..Also do you have to feed it snails to keep the teeth down cause I keep hearing you do..but if you don't I would like a GSP..

  • What are u feeding him/her

  • If it bites u does it hurt?

  • @1999spyro Not as bad as I though it would.

  • Yes they eat snails but its got 2 be those little ones like those ones people get on the their tank- so they can aleast eat them. They got 2 at it like a beaver those teeth keep growing . if it dosent get enough rough-edge its little beak will grow over its own mouth & starve

youd have to sudate & trime the beak with cuticle clippers & clove oil. check out on the net or utube.

  • my gf has green spotted puffers, 1 of them them swam up into the filter tube & got stuck! he died where the moter blade was. he puffed & those little spikes came out. When i found him he was gone :(

  • This video would be the shit in 3D !!

  • do ur puffer fish eat snails?

  • Comment removed

  • thesee mother fuckers are badassss! i had to in one tank along with a sucker fish..and both the puffers killed the hugeeee sucker fish that was in there, and then the one killed the other puffers, they're beast fish.

  • Do not feed puffer fish out of the water, they can gulp in air and litterally "drown on air" sooner or later it will happen

  • i just got one of these from walmart, practically saved it from its death since walmart doesnt know how to treat fish right. Just a quick question for ya, my fish has some troubles using one of his fins as it seems, cuz he isnt using it to swim much. any reason you know of?

  • awhh what a cutie, thats adorable. i wish mine hadnt died :( but i got really awesome fish now so its all good, maybe again one day <3

  • Do they have to have salt!?

  • @jessiecatmeowmeow Yes, GSPs are naturally High-end brackish puffers as juveniles and full marine puffers as adults. Dont listen to your petstore when they tell you GSPs are freshwater, as they are not educated about their fish stock as they make you think.

  • I have a quaestion. I've had my Green Spotted Puffer for about 5 months and hes stayed the same size and hasnt even grown a little. He is about 2 inches. Is this normal?

  • Cute

  • d(≧∀<**)Good!!

  • what is he eating?

  • hey i think im fine but can omeone tekk mewht to do totake care of my puffer right

  • Hi! i love these puffer fish and im looking to get one myself. how big do they grow? the guy at the store told me they were huge but internet says 2" to 2.5" thanks

  • @ZzRocketKandizZ just make sure you do some research because although they are worth it, they need a lot of special care

  • hay could i have a gsp in a 5 gallon tank if not can i have a figure 8 puffer in a 5 gallon yes its brackish

  • @MrGman0909 you definetly cant have the gsp in a five gallon tank. they create a lot of ammonia and just one would need a thirty gallon tank in the least.

  • After this video im pretty sure my small and innocent looking puffer fish killed my sucker fish and bit away the fins of my gourami :(

  • i use 2 have 1 but it jumped out tank and bit me so my mom made me give it away

  • so cool

  • i have 2 . two year ago but they die because i dont know what they eat , and now i still dont know what they eat can u tell me please

  • @htolad Look it up on google, its not hard to find out....

  • are they fresh water ?

btw wuds a fresh water fish

  • @zicescreamz no salt warter its a common misconception bud

  • Great video,i miss mine being small like yours.

  • I have a spotted puffer. will it live with a type 8 pufffer? please replY!!!!

  • what does he eat...?

  • ugly bastard

  • He so cute! I want him o.o

  • i hope you know pit bulls arent naturally agressive they were in fact bred as bull baiters but its never a bad dog its a bad owner

  • @crimses Hate those nasty dogs.

  • @2l28DRAIN your a perfect example of an ill informed dumbass whos kind takes up 95% of america

  • @crimses Please, I know plenty of people who have been attacked or their pets been attacked. End of story. But like any dog, with good training and a firm hand, they can be suitable pets.

  • @2l28DRAIN ok im sorry for being so quick to judge no hard feelings?

  • assi den fisch so zu ärgern ;(

  • I found a dead puffer fish on the beach once and I found a lot of dead jellyfish I held them upside-down though.

  • would a 15 gallon tank be big enough for just 1 puffer?

  • @nafaka12 think just a dwarf puffer, you can have 3 in a 15 gallon. there small and stay small

  • @nafaka12 one green spotted pufffer? ya for a while but eventually you will have to upgrade to a 30 gallon of 25 gallon

  • To dovla, you need to try and feed them something with a hard shell. Their teeth grow similar to rabbits and they have to constantly grind them down. Your puffers teeth have probably gotten too big for them to eat, so give them something hard to try and grind their teeth down.

  • Lola I had two of em their feisty and well they ended up dying after fighting each other

  • hi please help.I have two gsp in freshwater aq.I bought them 1 week ago and they don t want to eat anymore.one of them is so skinny.I really like that fish,so cute and funny.please help me.thanks

  • @dovla935 Probably infested with parasites, almost all gsp's are, you need to get a good parasite cleaner.

  • @MerkinMuffly how big does that puffer get?

  • @dovla935 Try a different food, they love brine shrimp.

  • @dovla935 I had the same, the problem is, they are sold as freshwater and they should be in salt water of 1.012. Try making your tank brackish and all your problems should go away.

  • @dovla935 As Merkin said, internal parasites are very common in GSPs. Get something like API's anti-parasite medication and dose that as recommended. Also get some marine salt and a hydrometer and after reading up on GSPs get your water to at least low brackish salinity. This will greatly increase their lifespan.

Feed krill and bloodworms, as well as mussels and squid. They like these things are are more likely to eat them. Also try live ghost shrimp if your local fish store has them.

  • @dovla935 - GSPs are brackish water fish, not fresh - that might be part of the problem. They need some salt in their tanks. Salt also helps keeps parasites away, too.

  • @dovla935 GSPs are salt water puffers once they reach half their adult size which is 3-4". Your GSP is taking damage from being in freshwater so you need to move it into a full marine setup ASAP or you will lose them. Store neglect the fact that GSPs are high-brackish when juveniles and ful marine when adults, they just want to make a quick buck by selling them off as freshwater puffers.

  • @dovla935 they wont eat because they are not suppose to b freshwater fish, do your homework retard instead of killing animals because your stupid

  • @dovla935 It could be parasites, also GSP thrive in backish water, you may want to read up on it. If you keep them in only fresh water for too long, they have much shorter lives.

  • @dovla935 They need to be in brakish water.

  • @dovla935 These are only freshwater fish at birth; as they age, you need to gradually increase the salinity, from brackish to full marine.

  • @dovla935 Probably what the uploader said about parasites, or maybe because green spotted puffers are BRACKISH: they require half freshwater and half saltwater.

  • are green puffer fish salt water or fresh water fish.

  • @mnm477 they can go in both.if you get a baby one than freshwater would be great for his whole life but if you get an older one it wont last long in a freshwater.

  • two questions 1. does it hurt when you do that and he misses the food and bites your finger. 2. i hope to get one after my dad finishes supporting the floor for our 60 gal and 50 gal tanks and then i get the 20 gal. tank and i was wondering becuse i keep reading that they need 30 gallons of water. can i keep one in a 20 gal

  • Gsp? The pit bull? XD u OBVIOUSLY do not know your fish

  • dun do that=[ they will suck in tooooo much air, its not good for him.

  • i had one but it died so i put my oscars in my tank now im going to add a gsp for an expierement

  • do they puff up?

  • I had 2 green spot puffers, but 3 months ago, one of it jump out the tank, die~ [Cry] feel so sad... now, I wish to donate 'her little partner' (2 inch green spotted puffer) to anyone who LOVE puffer & promise will take good care of her. He looks happy, and he trusts you :D Cute!

  • I had 2 green spot puffers,

    but 3 months ago,

one of it jump out the tank, die~ [Cry]

    feel so sad...

now, I wish to donate 'her little partner'

(2 inch green spotted puffer) to anyone

who LOVE puffer & promise will take good care of her.

    karenz9@live.com

  • @karenz9z9 Yeah, it happens, had two do that to me, I saved the one above, the other I didn't catch in time.

  • @MerkinMuffly i keep fish under a tight fitting lid so i dont lose them

  • @karenz9z9 because you taugh him to jump

  • @karenz9z9 Oh, that happened to my beta fish (My first one) then I got another and after about a year I was sleeping and he jumped out I heard the thump so I got up and saved him but then I left the house and when I came back he was dead on the ground. :<

  • @karenz9z9 i will take it

  • never do that to a puffer fish, they are weak and therefore they die quickly, have some mercy on that adorable poor thing.

  • now ima go get myself one |:D

  • bite his fingers off, ya stupid little fugu

  • its ok to play around with it but not all the time

  • hes like a little puppy :)

  • just bought one of these...cant wait for the fun to begin..any tips would be appreciated

  • how long does it take to feed that little bugger?

  • @TheLuckyDraw and what does it eat?

  • I bought one yesterday and it also died yesterday. FML Man that sucks.

  • "Hey! You with the hand. Im talkin to you! gimmie the food. Come onnnnnnnnnnnnn!"

  • this is how i feed my puffer!! so cool! love the video!

  • You've owned him for 6yrs and he hasnt gotten any bigger? I have one in a 20gal and was hoping he would get big..lol just wondering..

  • @honeybabydear He was large when I got him, they grow very slowly

  • @honeybabydear How large your puffers get greatly depends on there diet alone. They enjoy being fed everyday. I'f you want your puffers to grow at their normal rate.. Feed them food that's rich in all the essential nutrients they need. Frozen RAW shrimp is perfect. You can buy it in the store. RAW! only... don't ever get pre-cooked. I saw more growth in 6 months on shrimp then I did for 2 years on bloodworms, krill and plankton.

  • I hope it bites your finger hard one day for teasing it.

  • @3Deditor LOL I was actually in the middle of typing that i have a chunk missing from my fringer where I got bit by one of these while doing a heavy cleaning when I saw what you said, so I figured I would post it as a response. Mean little fish, but I do want another.

  • @mobiussquadron I had a few of them myself. cool little guys. I never tease fed them though. They loved their mysis shrimp, live and frozen. blood worms too. I owned a stars and stripes puffer once. Twice the size of my hand. He was very docile, very gentle as I hand fed him and he allowed me to hold and pet him. His teeth her intimidating at first. I know as long as you treat them gently, they'll be gentle back. They're Just very destructive in a tank filled with plastic plants and ornaments.

  • @3Deditor I meant to say his teeth "were" intimidating at first. near the bottom of my last response. I wish youtube had freeking text editing feature!

  • no offence but what makes u want a puffer?

  • @napoleontak because they are so cute and they puff up and they are fat... and just makes you want to squeeze them because they are so freaking cute!

  • oh and yes it hurts when they bite got my mate stick his finger in the tank!!he wont do it again!!

  • Yeah your right saying there brackeshwater but depending how you bring them up and u do it very slowly they will live in fresh water conditions and live a healthy life i have friends that have had them and kept them in fresh water and they have lived very happily!the 2 i have arenear enough living in freshwater conditions i add just a litle bit salt on every water change but no mre than i add 2 my tropical tank to keep good colour in certain fish!!and yes they can live in saltwater 2!

  • are these freshwater?

  • @danielll342 there brackeshwater and from what iv read they have to be transfred to full salt water sooner or latter

  • That thing looks like it bites hard

  • I wanna see him bite your fingers :)

  • @gigi7725 i wasnt being sarcastic

  • Thats a Very hansome fish

  • does all puffers have tooth ?

  • @foroeste your grammer is disgusting

  • Dude how fucking small is your tank:S?

  • What size tank do you have for him?

  • you should name him nibbles

    he only takes little bites

  • @sherillo ya ive had 1 for a day now and he doesnt eat much should i be worried

  • @zachn11 give him frozen fish or shrimp

  • lol this is awesome! i have one for a couple of days now, he hates me! lol.

  • geil

  • @Gaaraofthesandcastle Yeah they bite. But they are fun as hell. Mine just recently died. Im thinking about kind of "resetting" my tank for just puffers.

  • Puffers have toxins that are 1200 times more deadly than cyanide.

Really upset today. Bought a 1" green puffer and put him in with my cichlids. I have a 5" beautiful Jack Dempsey that tried to eat him, then spit him out. 2 minutes later, the Jack is dead! Was it because of the Pufffer??

  • WHY DONT YOU JUST FEED THE POOR THING YOU STUPID SOB

  • These ones don't puff up because I have some

  • o3o hee pufferfish. ^_^

  • I just bought 2 of these day before yesterday at Wal-Mart. Too bad Wal-Mart doesn't tell you jack about how to take care of them :( My little guys gave me a scare last night; I turned the light off & not long after, one started floating sideways. Turned the light back on, he's been fine ever since. Drama fish. Now that I know these guys can't eat just plain flake food (again, thanks Wal-Mart ><) I ordered some snails & brine shrimp. Fingers crossed!

  • @mothglitter They also need salt in their tank too.

  • lol hes not stressed. the shrip is. xD nice reply ahaha

  • HE'S NOT A DOLPHIN GIVE HIM THE FREAKIN FOOD. ><

  • i have mine in freshwater tank how do i get them eating gold fish i just bought them from walmart

  • how do you clean it's tank? does it bite you when you eat it?

  • that is cute as hell lol.

I am getting one soon. Please since u have had him for 6 years can u help me?

    I have a 20 gallon tank.

I want a fish of my own while my parents get some bullshit fish lol.

Are there cheap fish like goldfish that can live with puffers? That wont eat my puffer lol. Is it a lot of care?

How much would a good filter system for these puffers cost?

Please answer, I have to have one now by watching ur vid lol

  • @gbhighentertainments

If you do get goldfish for it unless they are bigger the puffer will eat them. In a 20 gallon tank you should add a fish that is a little bigger than your puffer. Not something aggressive tho because puffers are very aggressive. Also make sure that the fish companion for the puffer can be able to like in brackish water (like the puffer) You can keep the puffer in a fresh water but it will die earlier and will either be very unhappy. Yes this fish needs alot of care

  • @Studman0020

    alright thank u.

I have decided to get expeience first and when i get a much larger tank ill just put the puffer in the 20 gallon one.

  • hey man i have to gsp puffers one is new he just lays on the bottome of the tank he eats butt he is laqzy the other ive had for a little longer is not eatin i can see his beek i put some snails in the tank but still nothing so far all the eat is beef hart what can a feed them that i know they will eat plz help me a.s.p

  • Six years? You know they're approximate mature size is six inches right? He wasn't anywhere near that! Even for the video to have been shot almost two years ago that would have put him at four at the time of the shooting....hmmm I don't know?

  • why is his belly black? that normally indicates stress

  • one day he'll learn to jump outa the tank and get revenge lol

  • poor fish....

  • i was expecting a screamer lol

  • yo thats bad for puffer fish because they suck in air when they do that and they have weak stomachs so they get really bloated then die trust me dont do that all the time

  • @gamehunterpro Trust me, I've had him 6 years and I do this all the time, he's never, "sucked in air". He's hunting, why would he suck in air? they only suck in air when they blow up because of stress. He's not stressed, but the shrimp is.

  • @MerkinMuffly

In his defence that does happen. This is fine. A lot of puffers die when people take them out of the water and the try to puff up out of the water.

  • @MerkinMuffly SOOO CUUTE! are they hard to take care of? also ive herd that for fish their very smart :D i want ooone D:

  • @MerkinMuffly actually he probably does "suck in air" all fish do when they eat at the surface they just purge it threw there gills tho its no big deal. 0:48 you can see him do it right there lol

  • @gamehunterpro yeh they are not labarynth fish so they can't breath oxygen out of air

  • If that thing had legs it would be all like, BITCH IMA WHOOP YO ASS FO FUCKIN WITH ME!!!

  • uh.. they are completely freshwater. Not brackish.

  • @888hud incorrect. infact they can be completely converted over to a saltwater tank if necessary.

  • @888hud they are happy in either

  • will they kill a neon tetra, platy, betta and guppy

  • @2010UWG goldfish too, right?

  • Puffers need the tank to be half saltwater and half fresh water, its called brackish and they live best in it, i've had mine for a year now and they are living just fine :)

  • @Jesuiscanadian not all puffers, nile puffers for example are happy in fresh and brackish water but are best in freshwater.

  • can these live in fresh water?

  • my pufer fish died i wonder why i put it in a fresh water

  • just give it the shrimp
