  • @hahaumiss91 I agree most "fairy tales" don't openly speak of genocide, slavery and rape, but the ones I grew up with had ogres with very sharp knives and an insatiable hunger for little children and parents taking their kids out to the woods to abandon them there and big bad wolves and mean witches which were pretty much meant to be just as scary as the bible. So, I just went to the bottom line. And it seems to have worked considering this little post is generating quite a few comments. Cheers

  • @TheSpazzymonpie yes I'm the idiot you think I am and I'm going to burn in hell... so what?

  • This guy is so different from bigots like George Bush(the first one).

  • Doesn't science support the decriminalization of Marijuana?

  • hahahahaha, Anyone who thinks that for the last 50 years any of the american leaders have believed in god most be bananas.

  • Americans sound like robots:(

  • He is always reading. He cant even remember a 3 minute speech.

  • @JosephalicCarnage I'm willing to bet that the job is fairly difficult. Would you want to be the damn President? This was probably just one thing in dozens of things he had to do that day, and was just brought onto a set to read his prepared speech, and move on to something else twenty minutes later. Sounds fun.

  • @ZenShroud1 Why are u defending Obama's reliance on the teleprompter, reading speeches that he himself didn't even write.

Before the teleprompter was invented Presidents still gave speeches.

  • @Jamespot24 Yes and their list of 'things to do today' was significantly shorter. I'm not defending Obama. It was an uncolored observation.

  • @ZenShroud1 Their list of things to do was significantly more important too, this web video isn't something a President should concern himself with.

  • I thought it was Britain who had the Scientific bragging rights. Lets look at history, ok, well america doesn't have much of that so i think the UK is a win...

  • @NICH0LASM

many nations made inventions, especially germans, britains, chinese, americans, french and so on

  • 0:45

"...put science at the top of the agenda..."

THEN WHY DID YOU CUT NASA FUNDING?

  • @Silhouette93 Exacly, total bullshit and the amount of money spent on nasa since it exists pales compared to the amount payed for war over the last few years. Science is long term thinking

  • @Silhouette93 while i truly would like to see advancement in the sciences...come on, priorities here.

  • @Computerdisplay

I'm not arguing that we should or should not prioritize science (although I do think it would be a good idea). I'm calling out his hypocrisy.

Search: Obama's 2012 budget request breakdown science on Google and you will see that science is no where near the "top of the agenda".

  • It's so obvious Obama is an atheist, he is too intelligent not to be, it's just a shame he cannot admit it for obvious reasons.

  • what a joke haha

  • i wish my president was that awesome ( and hot : D )

  • bible = fairy tales

  • @zaxxxon Come on. Glodilocks is ashamed to be considered a part of a literary group which speaks of rape, torture, murder, atrocties and sheer stupid.

"Atleast my story had only one talking animal and no invisible things" - Little red riding hood on the Bible.

  • @zaxxxon You so openly insult a religion but do you know anything about atheism? Are you just another one of those idiot 'atheists' who insults religion with no knowledge on it or science at all? Yeah, I'll answer that for you, you are.

  • @zaxxxon fairy tales hardly ever talk about genocide, slavery and rape.

  • i don't understand why he's claiming to love science, while evolution is the most supported scientific theory of all time which directly contradicts the bible saying people were made by adam and eve's offspring, all religious people are irrational and i'm sure obama is just basically required to say he's religious to get votes, psychological brainwashing at work...

  • RON PAUL 2012.... SHEEPLE.

  • @JesusisLord685

Alright there schizo... Go back to your cage...

  • Wow who woulda knew so many Atheists like Obama? Hahahhah.... ahhhh... I love it

  • Jesus used to dance to dubstep . True story.

  • Obama, you have been a disappointment in so many ways, but in this you are so right!

  • you can pour this distilled amount of crap in someone else glass. stop making that presidential tone of my ass. a fart of mine is gonna be a way more authoritative than you...do yourself a favor stop reading that shit

  • This gosh darn nigger tryin to send this country up in flame with his science. You're darned right I'm a republican and like pat robertson said, this country is doomed and we are all bound for hell if we keep up with this science nonsense. Obama probably watching that there porno right now cause he's moraless and probably lusts after Hilary Clinton all day. You cheat in your mind then we take your eye out, that's what the bible says and that's gods word and darned right I follow it. Go tebow!

  • @mjordan1998 Your trolling...right?

  • @mjordan1998 dont waste your time troll

  • Proof that creationists have doubts: they want scientific research to stop. They know that science will only continue to disprove their beliefs forever.

All Obama said was Science needs to be a priority, never even mentioning religion, and creationists come here and take it personally; as if they know science contradicts the Bible, yet they still side with the Bible.

I'm tired of religion holding science back, worship whatever gods you want but please let scientists save this world.

  • Okay, maybe I'm just being Mr. Thicky here, but I don't see how this has sparked the internet's bazillionth religious debate when all he's doing is saying that America should put more focus on science. And why not? Science produces loads of amazing ideas, technologies and medicines that revolutionise our lives.

  • After all of Obama's exposure to Islam and Christianity as a child, I would not be surprised if seeing the conflict between these two self-proclaimed "true religions" lead him to believe they were false. One day, far past his presidency, I almost expect him to say "Hey guys, I have a secret. I've been an atheist all these years." Kind of like James Randi coming out as gay at age 81, it just wasn't something he could do 50 years ago.

  • @lordcodicus I agree. I'd be willing to bet he's an atheist. He mentions JFK who was also a rational thinker and from what JFK said about church and state and the oval office he was also likely an atheist. It's sad that in America to admit you are a rational thinker that knows science and not religion will advance mankind would also preclude any shot at the white house.

  • Obama is the last thing America needs, even saying his name in the same sentence as America to me seems treasonous!

  • @imapisces23

    Obvious troll is obvious.

  • @mozcito939 lol. all those "21st century problems" he listed he created! if the people were left to their own ends none of this shit would be there because the shit we see is the tip of the agenda driven iceburg and were the titanic!! STEER RIGHT!! FOR GODS (and by "God" I mean man) SAKE STEER RIGHT!!!!!!!!!

  • obama 2012

  • i knew this man was a good president, but now wow... america: re-elect this guy! and people like him after his second term. I never thought an american president dared to speak up in the scientific way of life. This kinda, blew my mind. Give that man 4 more years. This is an america i'd like to move to one day, once i graduate over here.

  • "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." "In view of such harmony in the cosmos which I, with my limited human mind, am able to recognize, there are yet people who say there is no God. But what really makes me angry is that they quote me for the support of such views." --Albert Einstein

  • Origin of species, another man made story book, faith not fact based!

  • @TheAgateman1 HaHa thats a good one... now i could be like most christians and just give you a quote from the origin of species. But i wont do that to you

  • Using religion for personal "feeling well" reasons, that´s ok.

But, using a man made story book (goes for all religions!), to run whole countries really scares me!

    It´s all very easy!

If nobody ever told You about God, would he exist in Your mind.....Ehhh......no!

Not accepting evolution as a fact, is as clever as being convinced You can use gas to put out a fire....

You may or may not like Obama, but for us here in Europe he makes so much more sense! than Bush and his friends!

  • I can't help but think that this is pandering to his base, which is where pretty much all of the atheists in America are. It's a bit like some GOP candidates taking every opportunity to mention god, prayer, church or whatever. I have to say that I have rarely heard Obama say anything that I didn't really like but anyone that knows what I want to hear can do that.

  • Talk is cheap and whenever Obama is talking you should keep in mind what he actually is saying.

The 2012 science budget is decreased by 2 percent:

    wired.com/wiredscience/2011/02/science-obama-budget

  • @Freestylar wow again im not going on about this anymore-its not going to take you to "prove" me wrong (which i'm not) Have a nice day(:

  • what a great video.every day more and more people are turning to science and away from religion, that's evolution at work.

  • @useonlyreason agreed, that was a really good/intelligent comment :)

  • @useonlyreason Read my other comment. Obama is a christian but is a strong believer in tolerance. wikipedia(DOT)org/wiki/Barack_Obama#Religious_views

  • @useonlyreason But, that's not how evolution works.

  • @useonlyreason That statement not only proves that you don't understand religion, you don't understand evolution either. pretty sad

  • @useonlyreason actually, according to many scientists and many anthropologist experts religion is an adaptation and increases rate of survival and cooperation. So in fact it is de-evolution based on erroneous thinking that the absence of religion would benefit humans.

  • @mothyberry Even if what you say is true, it doesn't mean the religions we have are beneficial, and it certainly doesn't mean they're true.

  • @RhiehnD ...uh... yeah... it... does?! haha! What the hell is not beneficial about the increase of survivability, cooperation, and reproduction? Those ARE the 3 main human struggles. Its also a fact that those without religion have a negative ratio of survival. Whatever though, it doesnt even matter what religion it is, haters gonna hate.

  • @RhiehnD ...and does it really matter whether its true or not? Religion is culture and you can't say "youre culture isnt true"...its purely a lifestyle choice.

  • Where does he talk about Darwin? My ADHD started to kick in and I don't feel like looking for it.

  • For the people who do believe in God-I know God wants us to spread the word of him to all...but we know in the end that the non-believers will get their second chance when they are LEFT BEHIND.

  • CUNT

  • why people keep liking what ever he says..!!

  • world's leader, cool story...... your way behind to be world's leading.

  • so is there no reason behind rules of the bible that you will have sined at least once in your life? so your just going to live in regret for what you have done wrong rather than ask God for forgiveness? psshh sorry but I think it would be hard to be an atheist. the science atheist like does not rule. aahhhahahahXD

  • why do atheist hate the bible...?its proof. It teaches and tells about how to live life fully and greatfully, so why would they disagree with that? Like the 10 comandments (for example) thou shall not kill---umm duhh common sense but theres murder in this world. or 'You shall not commit adultery.' common sense again of course don't cheat on you wife? so i don't need to go on and on...whats so bad about believing in the bible for you non-believers out there? and to call God or christians stupid?

  • @sumNkim The Bible isn't just the 10 commandments or 3 useful commandments and 7 useless commandments. Most atheists are critical thinkers and skeptics and when you have a book like the bible which is so flawed, contradicting and disgustingly ignorant. your going have intellectual people who are gonna question its validity. would you sit back and watch people delude themselves by remaining ignorant, if you had the knowledge and understanding to correct them and make their lives better.

  • @Freestylar oh boy!!! here goes another atheist totally switching my words around! wouldn't be the first time..so its ok!;) so don't think your "critical thinking" is right, because your delusional-especially when you say the bible is flawed and ignorant..haha you make me laugh! can YOU even prove that? no need to though...God gives you the choice and free will to make your life better. but I can see you have gone to the dark side already. Go watch a Richard Dawkins video...

  • @sumNkim Here a few basic flaws in the bible Read em and weep:

    Pi doesn't equal three

The earth is not a circle, it is a three dimensional obloidal sphere. Nor does it have four corners.

The sun should be created before the plants as plants need sunlight to photosynthesise.

    Bats aren't birds.

    Hares don't chew cud.

The sky is not a solid structure.

The sun does not move around the earth.

Insects do not have four legs.

People do not live to be 600 years old.

  • @sumNkim People do not live to be 600 years old.

The Israelite population went from 75 to several million in a few hundred years.

A brass serpent and a pole will not cure a snakebite

    Giants do not exist.

    Unicorns do not exist.

The earth is not suspended in space by pillars.

Prayer will not cure you of illness. How many Christians do you know that use hospitals and medicine when they are ill..?

The moon does not produce it's own light.

  • @Freestylar wow...you are making a complete fool out of yourself...0.o you really need to do your research. all of these can be answered but im not gonna waste my time anymore on an hardcore atheist who will only stop arguing with me to "prove" he's "right". but I will answer some even though i wont win. First off the "disabled children part--umm..God didn't make them that way?? lol. such a mom/mother figure was 99.9% likely to be doing drugs and drinking alchol and other crap.

  • oh and when you die, nothing happensXD

  • @sumNkim All those examples were taken directly from the bible, albeit a little simplified for you to comprehend. It took me about 60 seconds on Google to find that out and another 2 seconds to find out it was referenced thoroughly. As long as you quote the bible as being absolute proof you cannot ignore the plethora of contradicting arguments generated by obvious errors about the earth and its history. And no I am not a "hardcore" atheist, I just prefer to research what I'm claiming.

  • @sumNkim

According to scripture, congenitally disabled children are made by god that way, not due to unfortunate genetic mutation.

    Bushes can't talk.

    Noah's ark is an impossibility.

It is impossible to cover the entire earth with the water contained within it, even including the polar ice caps.

    Dead seeds do not germinate.

The deaf and mute are not possessed by the devil.

you said i didn't have to prove it but because I can and you won't ever seek the answers if i don't here they R

  • @Freestylar another is that Noah's ark has been FOUND(again DO your research!) but the thing is no one is really aloud to go over there, or else you will get shot. third--don't even get me started with unicorns--do your research

and uhh..of course the moon doesn't produce its own light? the SUN shines on it to make it light up?(didn't you learn this in 2nd grade?) and yeah this just "happened" for no purpose or reason

  • @sumNkim Noah's ark has been found over a dozen times all by different people.

    Please check here: answers*yahoo*com/question/index?qid=20110428041934AARmR9n

and here: gotquestions*org/Noahs-ark-discovery replace the *s with . because youtube doesnt not allow the posting of links.

  • @Freestylar unicorns are chinese mythology

God is Power. Making it flood over the world he can do that. and I don't know where youve herd about bushes talked? and what you just put does not prove anything...omg. Satan has you blind..and not just you either. Though I can see you are curious about the truth but you will never see it. I was an atheist at one point, but I then became a chritian. No matter what you say I dont care cause we human are the proof that theres a GOD. have a nice day.

  • @sumNkim I sincerely suggest you read the bible before you make statements like this.

and obviously unicorns are not Chinese, mythology where do you get this shit from? When you make statements such as these please provide your source material or similar material that supports you claim.

  • @sumNkim and to the last point you made about not caring what anyone said because of your fundamental belief system. If you are going to stat that then you have no right debating anything. and you should probably just crawl back under your rock so the outside influences of the world don't get to you. While your at it why don't you wear a t-shirt that says "Don't bother trying to teach me anything, I'm a born again christian" you would be doing the world a favor.

  • @sumNkim .atheists dont hate the bible, how can you jsut group awhole bunch of different peole togheter like that?many feel the idea of god as delusional, the bible has some great guidlines or whatever ot lvie your live but you dont need it whtsoever, its common sense.a lot of christians are just so fucking stupid and then you have christians like francis collins, michael faraday or isaac newton.

  • @M10663 thank you so much for calling christian "so fucking stupid" when I never said a bad word about about atheist or even to you specifically--don't be so hardcore;) and I bet every time you see a bible or a cross--you crinnnnnge

  • @braunbrothers I wouldn't say he's doing horribly. Just look at how well he's doing with the war on terror. Not to mention repealing don't ask don't tell. That was pretty awesome. He's ended the war in Iraq, and allowed for stem cell research. He's done far better than ANY other candidate that ran in 2008 would have.

  • If new cared so much Fermi wouldn't have been shifted. Don't care if it was up to Congress or not...just saying

  • Unfortunately all these wise (and common sense) words will land on deaf ears since the majority of Americans are hopelessly stupid and ignorant.

  • Ha. If Obama is an atheist (in reference to the top comment), that doesn't say much for the first atheist president. He's doing horribly.

  • @BraunBrothers .his policies hae nothing to do with being an athest or thiest, his policies are not that good in general.smae goes for bush or whoever you want.

  • Obama is an atheist, that's why he's the best president in recent history.

  • @JonO387 Uh no, Obama is actually a christian. Do your research before commenting again. You do realize it's possible to like science and believe in god? This is my position as well.

  • @ajhrockerboy6 He claims to be christian so he would be electable. Sadly, that's the only way to be elected in this country. It's a shame that in order for people to take you seriously you have to claim to believe in archaic nonsense.

  • @ajhrockerboy6 .i rpbaly think obama is agnostic or soemthing like that.a christian?please.you have to say that or you dont have a shot of getting into power in such a supposedly free country like the usa.

  • @JonO387 Obama is the worst president in the history of U.S government. Look at what he did and what he didn't do. I'm not even American and I can see he is the worst yet.

  • @MrUfologist .how on earth is he the worst?carter was much worse than obama and even he isnt considered the worst.

  • @JonO387 I would not be surprised if he were an atheist or agnostic. Of course it would be political suicide for him to publicly come out of his closet. The evangelicals would crucify him. I was pleasantly surpised that he mentioned Charles Darwin. It took a lot of guts to risk alienating half of the American public.

  • @prschuster In the mind of the Christians, Charles Darwin is worse than Charles Manson.

  • @JonO387 Obama is the best president if you are one of the many millionaires donors to his party. If you are poor or on lower income levels then Obama has made you poorer.

  • @JonO387 I dunno, I preferred George Washington, whom was an atheist, though he didn't illegally invade countries and repeatability lie to serve the interests of his billionaire donors.

  • @JonO387

Why do you think he is so great? He hasn't done a single thing he promised during his campaign. He has done nothing that compares to what Bill Clinton did. Why do you blindly say Obama is the best president in recent history? Recent since when? since Bush?

  • @HDaviator how about you stop taking things so seriously.

  • @JonO387 It's a plus if he's an athiest, but he's THE of the worst president in recent history.

  • @JonO387 It's sad there is this "closet atheism" thing in America. That's one of the reasons americans are sometimes being laughed at.

  • @JonO387 Wrong and wrong. Dumbass.

  • Comment removed

  • @JonO387 He's an atheist, unfortunately he took away more rights from the Americans. Ron Paul, even though he is a christian, wants to give them back.

  • "..it's about protecting free and open inquiry. It's about ensuring that facts and evidence are never twisted or obscured by politics or ideology." oh irony.

  • more short and stupid comments plz

  • @BarryGormley2010 Again with the falsehoods, the virus does not evolve it is a loss of information that makes them harmful ! Like you said do some research before you attempt to debunk a claim. Its more like devolution ,the medicine stops working because it can no longer attach its self to the virus due to this ditching of information , how is that evolution? You again assume you are dealing with an idiot, how is this answering the world hunger problem or the education problem ?

  • @clawedification what makes viruses harmful is certainly not the loss of information in either the host cell which it infect, or the actuall virus. it is the increase of information in the host cell that makes it harmful, since it alters its host cell genome, to make it produce new virus organisms, please, read , learn, educate yourself before making outragous claims such as this, the reason medicine dont attach itself is because the RNA protein which the virus contains has altered, not ben lost

  • @BarryGormley2010 That is totally false i know you are a liar and probably I should not even bother with such ignorance... anyway no doctor anywhere claims that evolution theory is the base of modern medicine , ask for yourself i have and its always our ability to witness the virus/aliment with our modern eyes and has nothing to do with monkeys. You sir mam or it can not defend someone with an original idea?

  • No, the truth is no one cares about some fake ass global warming scam ,and no one gives a crap about some stooge behind the curtain.Be a man and get off your ass and do something other than destroying other humans, science should benefit mankind. The proof is in the world around you we have the power to stop world hunger but this man is more interested in useless things like evolution witch does not benefit us in anyway! Do some real work like educating the aids population in Africa...gov.jerks

  • Historical revisionist & women's magazine hack Christ' Hitchens NEVER, in his rhetoric, endorses the plainly-written strictures of the U.S. Constitution: limited government, shared powers, checks & balances. His politics are of the Thomas Woodrow Wilson model: expeditionary forces, base-building, occupation/colonization of the outlands, spying on Americans (to rat out the illusory 5th column, “loose lips sink ships”) & expansion of the Anglo-American empire.

  • "It's time we put science at the top of our agenda." Yeah, and then in Durban 2011 at the COP17 summit US negotiators did virtually everything possible to stall an agreement on a binding treaty to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

  • america didn't invent the internet. Why do all americans believe this?

  • USA as a World Leader.... to fight MORE wars, to make biological seeds ILLEGAL for all (Codex Alimentarius), except of course for the elite and to let money be in chip implants so there's no way to say 'no' for anyone.

Obama, why not write your own speeches for once in your puppet life.

  • YES PLEASE! more science! away with things that hinders its future!

  • "...global warming..." "...facts and evidence..."

    GG validity

  • It's funny because JFK was a moderate.

  • so beautifully put, well said obama

  • @ProDegiaque The networking of computers started a Xerox Parc, and the creation of a system which allows this networking to happen between any two computers in the world (the internet) started at MIT. The internet is an American creation, although the Computer itself was invented by a Brit.

  • SCIENCE RULES!!!!

  • @Thinkdeep420 Totally agree.

  • Meaningful measures to stop the sun are being explored. One day Man will not have to rely on this cruel mistress for his warmth & light. Man has conquered the moon & Mars. Soon Saturn, Neptune, Mercury & Venus will succumb.

  • These words alone is the reason why Obama should be given a 2ns term. Great words. 100% agree.

  • @arkangelio Obama's words have almost always been great. His actions however, have been terribly disappointing.

  • @norevelation Yes, and more specifically... welcome to the Orwellian world of modern day Big Brother ;)

  • @jaieet I find two problems with that statement:

Firstly, Bush's political errs were so ginormous, that I doubt the next 10 presidents will be able to fix it...

Secondly, if you want to understand why a great deal of people are seriously disillusioned of Obama, perhaps you should begin getting your information from more sources than just the mainstream media; even Murdoch admitted and "apologized" for the incompetence and bias of the media owned by News Corp (check wikipedia about it)

  • @Diddmund Well it's no good telling me I'm wrong, then pointing me in the vague direction of 'other sources' =P

Media sources generally are biased in certain respects - as is the internet, word of mouth, and any other source.;p The trick is to pick the right outlet for the right topics. Some people are never satisfied, naturally, and believe wholeheartedly that everything anyone in authority says is a lie; but there's no pleasing some people. =p

Now, I can't find my comment. What did I say? ;p

  • Comment removed

  • @jaieet You said that Obama was quite an improvement over Bush - that I partially agree with, since even a monkey would have been!

But pointing one in the " vague direction of 'other sources' ", is often the most reliable way to offer verification of various claimed truths' accuracy.

As you say, any source is potentially biased. I'd go so far as to say, that reality is experienced/understood subjectively by each individual!

And, if you're going to distrust anyone... distrust authority ;)

  • @Diddmund "And, if you're going to distrust anyone... distrust authority"

I knew that baiter would work. :P From personal experience, I can honestly say that it is more productive to listen to the words of a professionally trained political analyst over those of a meager labourer with limited formal education ;p

    But anyway;

I respectfully disagree. Bush was not an unintelligent man. He simply was not. His biggest fault was his parents' influence and his personal views (abstinence programs? Ugh!)

  • @Diddmund (pt 2) He handled political affairs well, all things considered. He, however, had terrible company - and made what could potentially be named poor decisions as a result of that company.

    But that's a different conversation. :P

"pointing one in the " vague direction of 'other sources' ", is often the most reliable way to offer verification of various claimed truths' accuracy"

That's a lie. =P Pointing someone nowhere and telling them they're wrong is just self-indulgence. :P

  • @jaieet Listen, Jaieet; I never claimed to be an expert on anything here; I'm merely offering my opinion, something I believed we both (and perhaps all of us here) were doing.

Are you referring to Obama when you say "professionally trained political analyst"? Let me propose another way to refer to Obama: "a professionally trained mass-manipulator, proficient at telling people what they want to hear, whilst promoting private interests"

That, can of course apply to any politician ;)

  • @Diddmund "Are you referring to Obama when you say "professionally trained political analyst"?"

A political analysist is somebody who's educated--and paid--to study and provide their opinions on current economic/political issues. So... no, I'm not. lol ;p

    "Try googling "Obama controversies""

So I did this for funzies and note that the results consist-entirely so far-of mosques, broker stock investments, and ties to the *muslims*. I really assumed you had something to show me, and am now emo. =P

  • @jaieet (pt 2) Also, let me yet again point you in the direction of other sources!

Try googling "Obama controversies". You'll get a whole bunch of worthless results, of course; but some points will be worthwhile.

Also, why don't you verify exactly which election promises he's actually kept and which he's broken? I'll promise you, you'll find more than you like in the latter category.

One must look for oneself, it is the most reliable way to gather unbiased (or at least multisource) information.

  • @Diddmund I like Obama, but I still thumbs-upped your comment...or tried to at any rate. Youtube's being stubborn and not letting me.

  • @Diddmund "Also, why don't you verify exactly which election promises he's actually kept and which he's broken?"

Politifact dotcom can verify that for both of us. ;p I haven't maintained any particularly close eye on any political promises, so iunno how much might be missing from there (if any), but he's doing ok so far, by the looks of it.

Though, really, promises kept really should take second place to reactions to current events. It's not like we pay politicians to *change* things. =p

  • @jaieet Well to name a couple; he did seem to show a disdain for the war(s) in the middle east, promising he'd bring soldiers back. In stead he did the opposite and bolstered their numbers once he got to power.

And another thing; if he were the leader that he's been romanticized as, how can he leave such an atrocity to human rights, as "the Patriot Act" is, completely unchallenged?

The Patriot Act is probably the darkest legacy of Bush... but why "Change" it..

    ...even if Obama promised change?

  • @Diddmund "he did seem to show a disdain for the war(s) in the middle east, promising he'd bring soldiers back. In stead he did the opposite and bolstered their numbers once he got to power"

I don't think a president has 'power', does he? ;p Pretty much everything a president does needs to be approved or voted upon (exempting from trivial duties)

But yeah - the war in iraq. Didn't he *just* make the announcement that all troops are being withdrawn for the holidays?

  • @jaieet "...withdrawn for the holidays"

Well THAT makes all the difference! Is Santaclaus also coming to town, giving all the Iraqi children their parents and homes back? And after the holidays.... business as usual?

Wake up, good man: Politicians can keep pulling excuses and justifications out of their sleeves like magicians pull rabbits out of hats! If it's not Iraq or Afghanistan... won't it just be the next war? The problem seems to be bigger than any president could cause or fix by himself.

  • @Diddmund "The Patriot Act is probably the darkest legacy of Bush"

*Not* the foreign occupation that cost the US several thousand lives? ;p I don't know all that much about the patriot act, but I assume that as terror threats diminish, privacy restrictions will be once again openly challenged. At the very least, the government won't be monitoring every phonecall - it'd just be a waste of money

    "even if Obama promised change?"

Change in what regard? He advanced medical and employment rights a bit

  • @jaieet "..I assume that as terror threats diminish, privacy restrictions will be once again openly challenged"

As terror threats diminish?? That will be the day!

First it was the Nazis (albeit a quite tangible threat), after that it was the cold war and nuclear threat; "communism" became the big bad wolf. After that... DRUGS was the enemy (and still is, apparently. But only certain drugs!).

And now... it's TERRRRRRORISM! Noticing a pattern? Constant state of threat, anyone?

  • @Diddmund "As terror threats diminish?? That will be the day!"

There has been a serious decline in anti-Western activity in the past several months. Likely related to Osama's death and the apprehension of a number of his associates.

"And after the holidays.... business as usual?"

Lol, you misunderstand. I'm sorry - I thought you watched the news. :P The war in Iraq is over by december 31st. I assume they have embassies over there still, but the troops are returning.

  • @jaieet I've tried making my point; believe what you will.

But I'urge anyone to apply skepticism on all important things... one can simply not risk being too trusting, especially not when it comes to authority.

History shows a clear pattern when it comes to authority, and it's not one of just administration and voluntary improvement of human rights. It's one of blood and tears; constant struggle against tyranny and corruption.

To simply assume that "we're all civilized today" is naive.

  • @Diddmund "History shows a clear pattern when it comes to authority...It's one of blood and tears; constant struggle against tyranny and corruption"

Which parts of history are you referring to? :P

"To simply assume that we're all civilized today is naive"

I don't know; Every person is directly influenced by the environment they live in. People who grow up with a desire to destroy a certain enemy are a product of the community that bore them. Without access to civilisation, they can not loathe it

  • @jaieet (pt 2) Which is why, though I can appreciate your opinion, I disagree with your pattern.

Skepticism is fine; and to be encouraged. But general distrust of anyone with more power (or recognition) than your own can effectively breed content. There is little sympathy in a propaganda war-and it is difficult to admit fault

If the world were more trusting, it would also be more willing to accept responsibility for its own actions

It's easier to stand up for the little guy when you like him

  • @jaieet (pt 2) And yes, politifact can clarify certain things. Here's what they count as Obama's broken election promises... the list is quite long!

    politifact . com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/rulings/promise-broken/

But... in the end, I feel that a single principle is best to apply, when dealing with politics:

"Don't listen to what politicians SAY; look at what they DO."

With that single principle in mind, politics as a whole become much more comprehensible.

    ;-)

  • @bootneckbonz excuse my French, but I gotta say "Amen, Brother"!

  • he is reading? Doesn’t Look like he is saying things from his mind, more like repetition.

  • @crisoko ya, theres a TV right beside the camera, and they read it from there.

    you didnt know? :P

  • @Aseeb36

Teleprompters - Making people look smart on TV since 1952* ;D

[ *first used by former President Herbert Hoover... seems like it was originally designed for presidents and politicians! ]

  • @HigherPoker Same goes with assuming god isn't real. ;;Because i dont know the answer to two plus two , the answer must be nine'

  • @idance28productions That's quite an erroneous assumption... mainly because of something called "Burden of Proof".

It very simply states, with pretty airtight logic, that if you're trying to prove that something Exists, the burden of proof falls on you. NOT on the one trying to disprove that something (unproven) exists, because it's not in any way a 50/50 chance kind of thing.

I can make an unproven claim about anything, but that doesn't give my claim equal ground as to those skeptical of it.

  • I think science along with history is being used for the wrong reasons. We should worry about how to make life better now in the present . I don't care how much information you can find about the past and about science although I do believe the information is correct. Can the government really save us from mother nature shaking us off this planet when the time comes? All science can do is make sure that the fortunate can afford to survive whats coming. Most of us will be wiped out. My opinion.
