I am sorry but how can people not like hogarth he is a brilliant frontman! I really liked fish and was upset that he left but hogarth is a brilliant!!!
Na canção "Blue angel" (no terceiro disco) eles encontram "Magdalene" em Lyon - cidade de Kardec e colônia romana onde nasceu Claudio, o pai de Claudia Octavia.
It's hard to top Fish who excels at fantasy stuff (and Marillion used to do a lot of that), but compare what Hogarth did in Marillion and Wilson did in Genesis... Hogarth wasn't half a bad choice.
Ian Mosley's drumming is very complicated in this song particularly in the 1st and 2nd verse. Also has anyone noticed the echo during the second half of the song?
if people have to comment can it please not be to slag off steve howgarth? sick of seeing it everywhere! im glad fish is gone, we've had several epic solo albums from him and if he had remained they would be the marilion albums. theres only ever been one megalomanicac in marillion and it was fish! i love both incarnations and see them as too different to really compare and frankly, the more peope dislike the howgarth stuff, the less commercial they are forced to be. RANT OVER!
Unquestionably, that is some very great acting performed here by Mr. Steve Hogarth in that fantastic music video clip. It almost gives the impression that there are indeed two very different characters involved here, one being good-naive-scared, the other evil-smart-frightening, even though both are starred by the same person. Simply great!
For me people that say "For me a group end with the departure of 1 member" don't count.
Music is music, Marillion with Fish and Marillion with Steve are different things but always Marillion, for me Steve Hogarth has voice, class, everything...
To Me, Fish will always be the 'Marillion King', Marillion were the best band ever in my opinion from 82-88, H has done a good job, taking them more commerically, but I only really like Seasons End and the Marbles Collection... But this is a class song!
Season's End was an excellent debut by Hogarth imo. This is a well crafted song. Caught them at the Garage in Glasgow back in April '97 (This Strange Engine Tour warm up gig). I like both eras of the band. Cheers for posting.
For me Marillion ended in 1989, from that point on I refuse to think of them other than The Steve Hogarth Band. But nonetheless, this song and video are really nice, and Steve Hogarth indeed does look good here. I think this is my favourite song by this line-up.
Or the whole marbles album fir that matter. And, you're right, i don't think you should listen to it as being the 'old' Marillion, rather a contemporary band making 'prog pop'(not prog rock!) In their own way, I think, they sound more like Radiohead, Muze of even (AHHHH) Coldplay.
Not Coldplay! Never coldplay. ahaha. (I get what you're saying though, esspecially on Somewhere Else. Mostly I think they sound a lot more mature though, I'd say there's some Portishead sound in there, as well as a lot of the New Wave sound that H brought in from The Europeans and How We Live. The XTC influence shows too. Maybe even Jeff Buckley.
Maybe so, but 'The Steve Hogarth Band' is goddam excellent. The entirely of Marbles moves me more than any Fish album, and for me Season's End compares too, though perhaps they were more consistent when they had Fish. I think both eras are completely essential listening, and respective side projects.
That's quite a narrow-minded way to look at it. Fish didn't compose the music for Marillion -- the other four did. So to perceive Marillion's identity as being inextricably linked to Fish is very shallow -- unless you think Fish's vocals & lyrics were the whole of Marillion. Free clue: they weren't. Marillion was and IS far more.
After Pete Best's departure from The Beatles, did you consider them "The Ringo Starr Band" from that point forward?
@Ken5244 Please note that I wrote that some two years ago - I had plenty of time to change my mind about a couple of things and I did. :) (Pete Best? Never heard of him, but then again I'm not a Beatles fan.)
No problem. It took awhile for some Marillion fans to accept H after Fish left the band, but Marillion has been doing > 20 years worth of great music with H now and it's time for people to either get onboard or shut the hell up.
Glad you chose the former. *laugh* Welcome aboard. :-)
Oh, and Pete Best was The Beatles' original drummer, replaced by Ringo Starr just before they broke big.
BUT, Apart from my Dad one one if his Friends, all the other Marillion fans are Hogarth fans, and don't really like Fish, so I'm slowly but surely getting close to H ;)
You'll pretend you've never met me but it's far to late Now I'm here I'm the who loves you best And you made a big mistake all right The day you let me in And you can fly to the other side of the world You know you'll only find I've reserved the seat behind you I'm the uninvited guest Let me in!
Looks like the dude from Heroes. Must have watched this video a hundred times. I remember taping it off the Chart Show when it came out and watching continuosly. Blew me away when I first saw it. Still great nearly 20 years later.

Eu defendo a teoria de que Madalena e Claudia Octavia são um só espírito
Para Dan Bronw:
"you made a big mistake all right The day you let me in"
(Você cometeu um grande erro, no dia em que me deu guarida"

Marillion = Mary In Lyon

Aos 44 segundos : "I'm the thirteenth at the table" = Eu sou o décimo terceiro à mesa".
