you should get the hv20 and buy accesories for the hot shoe. sound and lighting are really important in ameatur video and the hv30 the only diffrence is 30p but the hv20 has 24p which is good enough
On one promo video regarding the hv30, a gentleman stated that canon had "tweaked" the zoom control. Are you aware of an improvement or no change between these two models regarding this feature?
What you are thinking of is the hg-10 which is a hard drive based version. it uses the avchd format. This camera is a mini Dv, the best quality of hd media to date.
There is a new camera coming out in a month or so which is the HF 10 and it record in AVCHD to a 16GB flash drive. It is also black. Most likely that is what Ryguy1450 mistook this camera for.
I'm pissed, I just bought the hv20. I did only pay 653$ though, thanks to my AAA discount. I think it was worth it and circuit city dosen't even have the new one yet.

ya, i'm gonna get one off him.. providing they're in PAL.

there is no pal or ntsc, its HD. you can encode the HD video into PAL or ntsc in post production.

really? are you sure? i know it shoots in standard DV too.. that would be the PAL/NTSC aspect of the machine.

All right, I'm asking this on every HV20 thread I see.
Should I get the HV30 or get the HV20 and use the money I save for some accessories.
All input welcome.

Canon "tweaked" the zoom control on the new DV30. Do you know if it is a real improvement?

The HV-30 records to HDV format on MiniDV tapes. It has nothing whatsoever to do with AVCHD...
