Javan Rhino are not doomed yet. There are less than 100 of them left in Ujung Kulon National Park. Javan Rhino have 1 horn only. Sumatran Rhino spread across Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malayan Peninsula, Borneo Island and Sumatra Island. Bornean Rhino is sub-species of Sumatran Rhino. This video description so confusing.
Wait: The title says Sumatran Rhino, whereas the video description says Borneo Rhino. Sumatra and Borneo are two separate, distinct large islands. Which is it? A Sumatran Rhino or a Borneo Rhino? Or are they the same species in two different locations?
Borneo is not a "country in Indonesia." Indonesia is a sovereign nation. Borneo is an island that is actually the national territory of three sovereign nations: the oil-rich Sultanate of Brunei (located entirely within the island Borneo along its northwest coast); the Malaysian province Sarawak (a large part of western Borneo); and the Indonesian province Kalimantan (the remainder of Borneo island).
OK. Are the rhinos on Sumatra called Sumatran rhinos? Are the rhinos on Borneo called Borneo rhinos? Are the rhinos in Malaysia called Malaysian rhinos? Are these all the same specie with different local names or are they three distinct separate species? What is the Latin binomial for this animal (if it is a single specie)? And where did you get your information about population distribution?
Ahhh. OK. That's all I wanted to know. In the video description at right, the animal is referred to as a "Borneo" rhino, with (Sumatran) in parentheses, whereas in the video title it's called a Sumatran rhino "on Borneo." Because of this, the name of the specie was unclear to me.
When it comes to communicating information unambiguosly, as is frequent these days, most people are lazy.
It is the Sumatran Rhino, the Borneo subspecies Dicerorhinus sumatrensis harrissoni. The population is suffering rapid declines due to poaching and habitat loss. The horn is used for example for traditional chinese medicine
It is estimated that in Borneo less than 20 rhinos left. Very endangered species.
This great video was all captured using electronics developed right here in the USA which were given to Stephen Hogg. It's amazing what you can capture with these kinds of tools today!
Haha, there wouldn't have been a person there, though. They set up the cameras wth a 'night vision' thing/light, leave, and then hope they get lucky. :D
Sure the little fellow here is on his trail looking for something to eat. Listen how he uses his sense of smell. Don't go to sleep on a S. Rhino's trail. You might be woken up every 6 months or so.
Yes, and to make things worse, the males and females can't find each others, and they have anyway forgotten what it is all about :-(

He kind of reminds me of a dog (a gigantic, hairless dog with a huge horn on his snout), the way he walked up and sniffed the camera.
I wanted to reach out and pet him when he stepped up to the camera. <3

I think the Sumatran Rhino can still be saved. Breeding attempts in captivity have been successful so I think there is still hope for this animal.
The Javan Rhino on the other hand...I'm sorry to say is doomed.

whose rainforest range became tiny.
He said with a frown, "My home's now a town!
So help save my rainforest heiny."
Ha! I just made that up.
