Salam Brother/Sister..its sort of like a nasheed but we call these things latmiyat and majalis to mourn the death of Imam Husayn (as) and his followers on ashoura. If you have a shia mosque around, you should check it out during ashoura its a beautiful feeling and atmosphere, unless they hit themselves...that is against our beliefs yet some shia are too ignorant to relize that.
