I think I have femoral glide syndrome caused by overly strong hamstrings in comparison to glutes. I think this may have been aggrevated by doing conventional RDL's
I have ready info by eric cressey saying I need to strengthen gluteus medius. But Cressey says wide leg lifts will aggrevate hip problems for those with femoral glide.
I was just wondering if this exercise would be suitable for me? (I probably wont use bands)
why should the deadlifts be done on an elevated surface?

I would definitely go with anything Eric says. I would definitely anticipate pain for those suffering from femoral glide syndrome with this exercise.
Stick to x-band walks, clam shells, bowler lunges and glute bridges.
Also, over stretching the hip flexes might also exacerbate the issue, just work on activating the glutes.
