He embodies the soul of Texas- I remember seeing him in Houston probably 30 yr.s ago - he did a ballad with some of his trademark yodeling- there were very few dry eyes in the house and some were just out and out crying- how often doe's an entertainer manage something like that?- in my book he deserved national treasure status- wish he was still around- people like him make life more bearable and even more meaningful--- thanks for posting these---
Stumbled upon Don whilst listening to Slim Whitman, someone made a comment about Don Walser and I decided to look him up. I have never heard of the man but he appears to have been quite a remarkable fellow. His singing is most enjoyable. Sorry to hear he is no longer in the land of the living.
I luv Don's stuff.I had a chance to meet him when he played in NYC back in the mid 90's along w/Bill Kirchen & Too Much Fun. I saw him for free down at tBattery park & later that night over at the Mercury Lounge .A real gentleman & a great entertainer.
So long as the wind blows over Texas, Don Walsers voice will echo with it. In the heat of the summer, when the bluebonnets are casting their seeds, if you listen closely, you will hear his yodeling among the scrub brush and cactus.
If I had KNOWN there were still someone singing like this I'd have got more albums of him...Don sounds as good or better than Slim Whitman! It is sad that we are losing these great stars and talents.
