@joneebee WRC cars don't run with dump/blow off valves as they would negate the effects of the Anti-Lag. The noise you can hear is caused by a reverse air flow entering the compressor section of the turbocharger.

i know in Australia coz we hav rally .. Targa Tasmania which any1 can enter.. there are shopz .. say for $100,000 they can convert a normal Lancer Evo to a rally spec.. i know there is a shop not far from me that do rally.. it's a suspension shop.. but i waz told they were dodgy.. dont know about Subaruz but maybe at a Subaru Dealer/Factory or a supensionship that might compete in Rally's in your country

Seriously, you got an sti and don't know the basic restrictions imposed on WRC cars? google it. WRC cars are quite limited (for example, inlet restrictor), only producing around 300 BHP. That translates to semi-fast 402m times, at best, these cars are beasts when it comes to cornering and are sublimely balanced and responsive, thats their real power.

well i think that person who finks subarus are blanaced wrong i must say he dusnt have a clue wot hes speakin about . i own a tommi makinen raciing ex rally spec impreza wrx sti and yes it did cost me a bomb but it was worth every penny . i dont now abut citroens and fords but from experiance of rallyin in the scottish highlands that a subaru impreza is the car for the job .. yes my car is very gud . but the world rally cars are even better in every compartment ..

Check out the discovery channel series "Engineering the World Rally". It basically documents subaru's WRC efforts for the '06 season. The subaru boys themselves were forced to admit that 1) their car is slow (well, slower than the WRC-class compettion) and 2) their car does have a high-speed handling problem.

this car is balanced wrong, the mass balance is far from good, it has tendency to understeer. Rally of Ireland showed it well. 3 Subarus went out off the road same way. Something is really not good.

Fail too see much understeer in this video, all I see is predominantly oversteer. You can't generalize the car's setup just from rally off's, those off's could be from a wide diversity of factors such as driver error, bad weather, etc..

KuostA: I mean't that this model of Subaru is generally balanced wrong, on this movie it looks maybe more oversteer, but always something was bad with mass balance. Find on youtube video called 'WRC Rally Ireland 2007 - SUBARU Highlights'. You can see what happened to: Chris Atkinson, then Xavier Pons and then to Kris Meeke. Is it coincidence they went out of the road same way? Maybe there were more factors, but I claim Ford and Citroen is balanced better.

The "hawk" noise is from disabling the anti-lag system. What they do is create a combustion in the exhaust manifold using an air-bypass valve which keeps the turbine spinning. It is loud and not the best way to prolong turbo life.

At about 48 he turns it back on, you can hear the difference.

the turbo spooling back down. the audio is a little distorted ( due to the internet) but you can hear it on most High performance turbos. check a few of the dyno vids on youtube. you'll hear the turbo actually drown out the exhaust note, when filmed from the front. same concept just more exagerated because the WRX is at idle.

Yup..glowing break disks after extensive breaking, and even more visible at night. Not too uncommon nowadays on WRC cars. This effect is also common in GT racing.
