  • Um...personal request Romana. Can you bring back the buxom red headed warrior goddess regeneration...for me...please? ^.^;

  • "Too tall...take it away..."

    LMAO

  • The Doctor is funny. No Take it back!

  • Too tall! Take it away!

  • @KingLofiOne

Being at the top of their class at the academy has nothing to do with the regeneration process. It is something which comes naturally to Time Lords and Ladies. The Ladies have a better ability because in the 'Dark Years' (before Time Lord society on Galifrey) it was a matriarchal society.

  • @Magmaster13

Time lords can regenerate at will and in the first 24 hours of their regeneration choose what they look like. Time Ladies can do this more easily than Time Lords.

  • @Kunama1000 More like "Time Lords and Ladies who were top of their class can do it easier and control it better than other Time Lords who scraped past the final exam with only 51%"... such as the Doctor. See "The Ribos Operation"

  • @Kunama1000 If they can regenerate at will that supports my theory that Eight forced his own regeneration after the time war as a means of trying to leave that past behind.

  • ahhh shut up K9!

  • So she went into the other room, shot herself then regenerated again and again until she was happy?

  • @Magmaster13 Or until she ran out of bullets...

  • Because she was regenerating in a controlled fashion, i think she had bit of time to play with various bodies before settling down on a new form, whereas the Doctor has had to regenerate or die, it's been an emergency, with the only exception i can think of being that of the third Doctor, who was made to regenerate as a punishment.

  • @TheBcaton Actually, that was the 2nd Dr. [See "The War Games"]. Other than that, I agree.

  • o_0 "No thank you! Not today" LOL.

  • ...was...was she aware she has a set amount of regenerations?

  • @ghostsurfer666 I think she was still " in the middle" of the same regernation-sort of in flux- for a certain amount of time in order for her to change that many times.

  • Lady Time Lords certainly seem not to have all the drama about regeneration like certain other Time Lords do. But I'm not saying any names!! :)

  • 0:28 lol "regenerating" (checks out ass)

    and feminism marches on

  • 0.15

Too much in one day for the Doctor lol

  • 0:37

    LOLOLOLOL

  • A Time Lord/Lady only has 13 regenerations - why would they waste them on trying out bodies like they were clothes? It would have to be assumed that when Romana was left in E-Space, she was a bit more cautious in her adventures to prevent wasting any more of her lives.

While I always will enjoy the Tom Baker years, there were quite a few inconsistencies in the canon during this period - but then again, nu-who seems to have totally rewritten the book.

  • @theaussiebackflipboy not really, but the show has always had inconsistencies, i mean Deadly Assassin, terrifc story contradicts some stuff from the War Games. inconsistency comes witht he terriotory in a 50 year franchaise. Romanan wasn't wasting her regenerations, she was just testing new bodies out for her new one. it has been shown Time Lords do have a degree of control over thier regenerqations and some have theorised that...

  • @227060 ....time lords either developed a new method of regeneration or controlling it or otherwise the Doctor simply chooses not to put too much control over his regenerations. that sorta fits with the Doctor's character tho, hes a free spirit so i imagine, he'd like a bit of randomness and probably didn't pay attention when they told him how to control his regenerations. remember most of our theories on regeneration are based solely upon the Doctor, who is unlike other time lords: hes a rebel

  • @227060 true

  • @theaussiebackflipboy I gotta agree with @227060 we've been debating if the doctor could do this as well, if he were regenerating by choice. The only case of which was from 1 to 2. Maybe he got just what he wanted in the first try. After all - the doctor in this scene doesn't seem to think anything is off about it. He actually tells her to go try other bodies.

  • Ummmm.....thats not the end of the scene.....but "no thank you, no today" is reallllly disturbing!

  • No thank you?! Not today?! Are you insane!?

  • lol *whispers* "Too tall, take it away"

  • I love Lalla Ward!

  • i alway wonder how Romana could regeneration at will and the doctor couldn't. she went thro like what 3 bodys at once. but the doctor couldn't regenerated to ginger.

  • @TheBikerman360 i wonder if that goes for all time ladies (as opposed to time lords) or maybe romana's just better at it than the doctor. i mean, (***spoilers***) you look at river song's regeneration in Let's Kill Hitler, she managed to do hers without bursting out of her dress (to a legion of fanboys' eternal regret). so maybe it all depends on the person.

  • @TheBikerman360 It's cause she was regenerating at will as opposed to the doctor who can't seem to not get killed. She had control, he had to take what he got cause he was dying. Read that in a RTD or Moffat interview, can't remember which. It made sense though

  • @kathie1441 yea but how do you explain the first doctor regenerating to the 2tn. the first doctor died from old age. does that mean he wanted to look older.

  • @TheBikerman360 Wait, I think we have different memories of the 2nd doctor. I don't remember him looking older then the 1st. Certainly goofier in personality - but maybe Hartnell's doctor was looser when he was younger... Otherwise, dunno, the exception that proves the rule? I gotta look through my old magazines and find the interview. Though I don't recall anything further being said about regenerations.

  • @kathie1441 i expect the first doctor was indeed looser in his youth i mean he stole the TARDIS and all. i imagine he got a bit stiffer and more responsible when he had to look after Susan

  • @227060 Yeah, I was focusing more on how 2 was sooo not older then 1- well I mean he didn't look older. Besides, I've seen the docotr's wife - I know the TARDIS stole the doctor not the other way around! :D lol Still in the 3 doctors 1 calls 2 a clown and 3 a dandy - not that 3 is a part of this coversation but... it's that recorder, I just can't imagine Hartnell's doctor being quite that silly, you know?

  • @kathie1441 no no, 1 was physically (and arguably mentally) the oldest, which is awesome since he is in fact the youngest. Hartnell's Doctor was more old father time, and a grumpy older man. but like i said maybe he wasn't really a grumpy old man but more a moody teenager as it were

  • @227060 lol oh I just had this mental picture of the 4th as an EMO teen!! :D Sorry - not relevant but it won't go away and it's your fault!!

  • @kathie1441 well we've had an emo master

  • @kathie1441 I think its simply a case that Time Lords can control their regenerations to different extents eg the Master wanted to look younger, River Song wanted to Age backwards, but the Doctor i suppose either like you say has less control when its involuntary, or he simply doesn't know or doesn't want to exert control like that. it fits with his rebellious character, he probably likes the randomness

  • @227060 I like your thought on it! :) Still the master went to the same academy as the doctor so it's pretty unlikely the doctor doesn't know. Especially given how he just sends Romana back to keep trying. Seems pretty clear he does know that forms can be chosen. Which returns to lack of control due to his unexpected demise, or lack of caring. Well River was focused on a dress size during the regeneration they showed, and the master just focused on being younger.

  • @kathie1441 yeah but...i sorta see the DOctor as the kinda guy who probably skipped school, and maybe the Master too. I mean the Master boasts he got better grades than the Doctor but even if we assume he isn't lying there the writings on the wall bcos the Doctor has defeated him continuously so the Doctor is probably smarter than his grades suggest. I think maybe the Doctorgets too attached to his regenerations then? like he isn't concentrating on his new form hes sad 2 c the old 1 go

  • @227060 lol cutting classes! That would explain his scores. I can't remember if she said them, but i remember that romana commented on them when she first meet him. I think ur right about his attachment, remember "I don't want to go". I'm sure they don't want to go, but who would - each one was awesome in his own way.... I don't count that movie with 8... I don't want to offend anyone but that movie sucked!

  • @kathie1441 there are positives to it, eg that TARDIS set is beautiful, Mcgann was brilliant and it did take a proverbial bullet (no pu7n intended Mccoy) what with its introduction of the diea of the doctor experiencing romance. now while i don't think it was handled well I think the newseries would've had a rougher time if the movie hadn't done that first. altho personally i wholeheartedly reject this absurd idea the Doctor MUST be asexual, or rather aromantic, bcos....

  • @227060 ...for starters, the Doctor/Romana relationship might be friendship, it might be a bit more, but the fact that that SO many ppl have that insight i think shows us the writers weren't excluding the idea. then there is Susan, who had to have a grandma. i know theres pin off stuff to suggest she wasn't really his granddaughter but if it ain't in the show it ain't undeniable canon. plus inbetwen the movie and the old series the spin off stuff had plenty of instances of the Doctor and romance

  • @227060 The doctor has had some interesting regenerations, remember 4 to 5? His pre ghost followed him around! 2 was forced by the time lords, 5 was poisoned to 6 and Oh! I have no clue how 6 became 7. Hmmm. well anyway 1, 9 and 10 seem to be the fellows with the most time on there hands. 1 wanted to renew and he did, we don't know what 9 wanted and 10 wanted to say goodbye - he wanted to stay poor doctor :( So maybe he is getting what he wants in some cases? Maybe? Probably not :)

  • @kathie1441 1 theory about 6 to 7 was he did it ion purpose so he wouldn't become the Valeyard. 1 theory was each new incarnation is what the old one wished they would be. i dunno if this holds true bcos while Six was happy he wasn't 5 anymore, i couldn't really see 5 saying "yes i want to be grumpy and cantakerous". i think this does hodl water with 9 tho, bcos i think he was happy to regenerate since 9 was born from the blood of the time war and wanted to leave some of that behind him

  • @227060 yeah 9 probably was. Put some distance between himself and the time war, you're right.

  • @kathie1441 he always seemed half melancholic

  • @227060 He did, poor guy went through alot.

  • @kathie1441 he got better tho

  • @227060 He was doing better towards the end there, and of course the regeneration seemed to do a lot for him. Though he had those issues crop back up particularly in end of Time. 11 seems to be better dealing better though

  • @kathie1441 well i think he maybe got a little bit of closure in a weird way what with him basically confronting the people he killed face to face and knowing he made the right decision. i mean i imagine he was probably thinking it was catching up with him now, he'd die in the time war afterall. also just noticed a nice bit of symmetry in Eot. recall the mast time the doctor met the master he was restored essentially by the faith and prayer of strangers and became a glowing jesus paralell...

  • @227060 and he did get to make goodbye rounds. Other doctors just had memory flashes of their companions. He went to see them all. A bit more closure for him there as well.

  • @227060 ....to save humanity. well in Eot the master too is also restored by the faith of his familar servants in basically a black mass turning him into a glowing lucifer paralel who is going to condemn humanity. Im not religious at all, but its fun to spot these parallels and i love it when they play off the Doctor and the Master as the equal and opposite of one another

  • @kathie1441 Actually Tenth doctor got his hand cut off and he replaced it. It's just Romana had enough energy to regenerate.

  • @rathraven1313 I almost left a different comment but suddenly I think I know what you are talking about. You mean the doctor had enough regeneration energy to regrow a hand - but romana had enough to keep switching bodies? If thats what you mean I have to disagree - they have been pretty clear in the re-boot about healing during the regeneration window - river also healed herself of gunshot wounds in "Let's Kill Hitler".

  • @kathie1441 Yep, that's I met plus time does act differnet inside the TARDIS.

  • Best DW Line EVER!!! (Shut Up K9!!!)

  • I like first Romana better.

  • i fucking luv tom baker years

  • Look at that, the 6th Doctor's umbrella in the background.

  • LOL, great work

  • doctor: ROMANA ahhhhh

    k-9: ahhhhh

    doctor: SHUT UP K-9

    lol i love that bit

  • That's a good one. :)

  • Haha I always thought they needed something to make it seem like she was actually regenerating in this scene lol, love Lalla Ward as Romana, nice work
