  • I don't mean to be negative, but if I hit a short ball to the people I play, they would crucify me...not the soft shot your partner hit. It would be all over for me. Last night's match, every single time I came near the service line I was lobbed. The first time I came in too far, fortunately I didn't come in so far each time after that and was able to hit a few OK OHs. The young kids playing nowadays don't hit soft easy shots for me to T-off.

  • wdf? she could put away that point on her first volley. well at least i can

  • hey brent, love your videos from basics to advance to strategies. just one question, do you think you can post a video of you actually playing a match with someone just as great as you? because i personally think that's a great idea because we can watch you play using the strategies and tips you shared with us on all your other videos. all your tips in one match video. what do you think?

  • this wouldn't really work for someone who uses backhand smashes

  • @aznboi1398 Sure it would. The high backhand volley or the backhand smash is the toughest shot in the game. Most rec players don't do much with this shot.

If you're on the pro tour, then maybe not as well, but watch the pros, when they lob, it's over the opponent's backhand side.

  • @aznboi1398 hes specifically said unless they have an amazing backhand volley/smash this is a great technique...

  • Hi, in the video your opponent is left-handed. How about a right-handed who is attaching your backhand (like in the video)? If you play that kind of (semi) lob, it would be straight in your opponent's forehand volley, and that would be a kill (for you, not your opponent...).

  • @TheAndyC1966 That's right. So, if your opponent is right handed, same strategy, lob over their backhand side...

  • can't i use a topspin lob instead?

  • Hey Brent - I'm just getting back into tennis after a few years off - I used to play competitive tennis and have found your videos to be a great refresher. Your videos have also allowed me to better understand why I had problems in some areas when I played before. The high shot that (not quite a lob) that you are demonstrating can also be used as an element of surprise. If it was hit to an opponents backhand we called it a "blob" and if it was hit to an opponents forehand we called it a "flob".

  • good tactic against older folks

  • great instructional video. Gives people another option by hitting to the opponent's weak side. If you notice your opponent has a weak backhand approach shot, this sets this kind of play up beautifully. The approach shot is supposed to put the other player on the defensive so it is hard to always get the control on a lob that you want but if you have the extra time it's a great option for y our mix-up game.

  • hey brent way to go !!!!! you help me improve my game a lot

  • you can also play a ball to their feet, master yoda

  • no one does a two handed backhand volley lol

  • It's more common among women at the club and amateur levels. I've even seen one guy use two hands at net, so it's still a valid.

  • Go brent, youre a legend!

  • nice video mate, great strategy

  • Keep the videos coming

  • no way .. dude if the other player goes to the net im gonna shoot his face off , head shoot lol

  • 3:00 lol

  • this is a disgrace. you people need to get more "feel" and control of the ball.

  • lol 3:10 was really aqeurd

  • awkward* :\

  • I don't know seems questionable. If it was me I'd be slicing that shot all day.

  • you guys really tried!

  • LOL

  • thanks

i wish courts where i live were that nice

  • wow.. look at that landscape behind them lol.

looks nice, but for some reason looks fake haha

  • Thx
