Wonder what a armor piercing round made of cobalt/HS steel from a piece of cutting tool would do & how far it would make it thru the plate & the log. The other question is the same as Raptor6910 about a long-ass barrel version...maybe combine both thoughts & shoot an old 3-71 Detroit 300-400yds out...
"Boolits" is OK as a funny, "breaks" for brakes is just making you sound less than smart. The edit function is obviously beyond the poster's capacity.
@redtourist he meant a muzzle brake. A muzzle brake is like the device fitted to the end of the muzzle on this rifle. A muzzle brake redirects the high pressure gasses from firing the gun rearwards to control recoil. I hope this helps
It would be interesting to see if it would actually be able to penetrate an 18" thick compressed earth block. I doubt it could do it on the first try, though, considering a 50 cal couldn't even come close. youtube.com/watch?v=TQ7g_N-Srlo
Nice Gun and nice project. Try to reduce the recoil.( i don't know nothing about guns, but i think its better shot a gun that don't pull out your arm)
@Lammy2k, are you pissed because what ever sorry ass country you're from doesn't allow you to own your own fire arms? I think you're just a cowardly bitch behind a screen trash talkin to save you a good ol' red, white and blue ass beating. By the way guys, impressive velocity for such a heavy round!
Nice work on the rifle with super engineering work. Pat yourself on the back! Impressive velocities with a large bullet, but lets not forget the 4-Bore from the 19th century. This cartridge fired a 1" diameter lead ball weighing about 1750 grs. Using 3/4 oz. or more powder, it could fire said projectile over 1300 fps!
I don't see how djaudiofile's comments are either liberal, or communist. He's making valid points - he's a gun owner who doesn't want his 2nd amendment rights encroached upon any more than the rest of us. And yes, unfortunately, when people make firearms such as the one in the video (beautiful work, by the way), and they're not properly registered, it DOES cause problems for the rest of us. If JT wasn't as good as he is a machining, he could have gotten hurt - which would have hurt all of us!
@RC21114 Hey now, relax, I never said there was anything wrong with it, I just said not all of us do this. If you're angry at someone, be angry at the person insulting our country. Lammy2k
@Lammy2k That's not funny. I highly doubt you have the talent to make anything like this and even if you did, you probably cant even make it in your country.
And if it weren't for us uncultured rubes, ye'd be speaking German and their culture would be Naziism. What a moron. After that long, their culture is a full-blown infection...
@Lammy2k Well isn't that ignorant and closed minded of you. Firstly, it's yogurt, and cultures are a part of making it, not something that happens when it sits out, and secondly, if you're going to say the U.S. doesn't have any culture, it's probably not a good idea starting your post insulting one of the many slices of culture present.
But yes, some Americans, in their free time, develop an original rifle in a wildcat caliber they've designed themselves. What's your hobby?
Barrel length adds to velocity (up to ~the point where the pressure of the expanding gasses = 1 atmosphere), not accuracy(common misconception that comes from the days of iron sights). I'd say that if he's getting the velocity he wants out of it, then it's the perfect length.
Well, at least they were smart and put a muzzle brake on it. Barrel is not long enough for long distance. It is possibly 18" or maybe 20". No where near what is neccessary for long distance. Just another product of someone who has too much time on there hands. Let's see what mischife we can get into?
Very nice..What is the composition of metal that this was constructed from and was it one piece designed finish with a CRC? Thanks for posting..I like it. I also believe in the second amendment.
I'm not sure the practicality of this. What would you actually use this for? Against a tank maybe? Thanks again.
Great work, JT! Complaining about the 'music' misses the point entirely, imo. But, you're entitled to complain about it to your heart's content ;) I have 1 question, JT. I notice at the 2:00 mark of this video it shows a different bolt than what is depicted in the still shot of your work at the :03 mark. One has a single 'locking lug' and the other has two 'locking lugs'. Different versions of the bolt? The picture of the single lug bolt being a prototype of the final product? Happy hunting!
Please describe the difference between this cartridge and a 12 gauge shotgun shell. (I don't know how much powder, diameter, etc a 12 ga. is) But at first glance, it looks a lot like a brass 12 ga. cartridge with a longer length slug
Only thing that bothers me is the POOR gun handling. Couple of the guys swept the people after shooting. One even swept another person after loading the rifle.
Nothing like a cooler and a good rifle and some friends to party with. Too bad they didn't shoot targets so we could see their hits (well they did once). Enjoyed the tune....

And his is a little longer then mine.... mines only 2.75 inches long and holds 150 grains off ADI2207... plus i use threaded in magnum rifle primer flash tubes...And i only use a 850 grain projectile... im a pussy too shoot those huge ass 1000 plus grain stuff..
Well your country has weird laws.... in ours its would just be a big bore rifle... but at the end of the day, its between him and the BATFE to sort out... i think what hes done is great, its not unique at all as theres at least 6 others that i know off who have made huge ass big bore rifles based in the BMG case... i think his rifle would make a great sub 50 meter scrub gun for buff or pigs..
He hasn't and it is a DD. He has basically said "it's legal and for sporting use, because screw you I said so." That won't hold up to the feds. It's the same exact thing as if I made a 27mmWTF canon and said it's legal because it's 'for sporing use'. Anything over .50 is illegal until otherwise granted a written exception from the BATF.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
So you made an unregistered NFA destructive device. This is definitely not covered under the sporting use clause- that is only established sporting rounds like shotguns, anything else over .50BMG is extremely illegal without paperwork.
Those two are both production made cartridges that have gotten specific exceptions from the ATF to classify the rifles as sporting use.
With no exceptions I know of anything over .50 caliber is a destructive device unless it has been SPECIFICALLY cleared by the ATF. Until anything over .50 has been granted an exception by the ATF it is an unregistered destructive device. You're rational is "it's legal because I say so." I bet an NFA lawyer or the ATF would strongly disagree.
@jtcustomknives all the NE cartridges( 577, 600, 700) and the 950JDJ and also their 14.5mm JDJ have a exemption from being a DD its on SSKs site, also if you write a letter and send it in with a case drawing to the NFA branch in WV and ask for a sporting use exemption its simple, and dj some shotguns have a exemption some do not ie streetsweepers, usas12, aa12, etc the saiga12 is up in the air about whether or not it is by ATF and the NFA will fuck over anyone
@djaudiofile He clearly shoots a piece of paper around 2:54, maybe that's his "permit". Call the cops, tell em you saw an illegal homemade gun on Youtube. You might want to keep an eye on your neighbor, I think he drives too fast. And go yell at the kids on your lawn.
If you don't like guns go watch something else. I'll be damned if you'll find any comments from me on DJ and sound mixing videos. You know why? I don't like that shit so I don't watch it.
@Trebono I love guns and my gun rights, I dislike stupid gun owners breaking the law that can land them in federal prison for 10 years and add fuel to make it harder for the rest of us to own guns and NFA items. I own NFA items but I paid the stupid tax stamp and have the paperwork, when people don't it threatens it for the rest of us. The system sucks but that doesn't mean you can invent your own rules.
@djaudiofile I believe Amendment 2 of the US Constitution has all that covered for us, we just happen to have a really f^@%&d up government that thinks like you, and people that think like you to make sure we HAVE that f^@%&d up government. :)
@MrTKDWillie Sorry but the 2nd amendment isn't going to protect anyone when you build an unregistered NFA destructive device and break federal law. Tell that to the ATF.
I'm with you, the NFA sucks and we should all be able to own and build MGs and all that fun stuff but for now there are laws which need to be followed or if caught with something like this without papers you will lose all your gun rights forever..,
@andrew32155 Shotguns, the .700 nitro, and every other large bore caliber that is legal to use without papers has been granted an EXPLICIT exception by the ATF as for sporting use and they are all mass produced cartridges. Any bore/cartridge over .50 has to be explicitly approved and is not legal until the ATF says it's legal, so since he made a new cartridge it is automatically illegal until it is pettioned to the ATF and they approve it as legal which won't happen since it's not production...
@andrew32155 By that logic anyone could make a 24.45mmWTF or whatever size you want cannon and say it's legal because they say so and it's for 'sporting use'. The law doesn't work that way.
I want this video on my my721z unit.

Maybe the guy got approval from BATFE, just like all the other guys like JD JONES from SSK, AHR etc etc etc..... Its only a rimless 700 nitro....
Not like it has tungston penetrators in a sabot...

@1archanglegabriel

I would love to see what a tungsten projectile would do with 1" steel. Thanks for pushing the envelope.

Do you plan on trying to hunt with this rifle?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
So you made an unregistered NFA destructive device. This is definitely not covered under the sporting use clause- that is only established sporting rounds like shotguns, anything else over .50BMG is extremely illegal without paperwork.
djaudiofile 3 months ago
@djaudiofile this is incorect, how then is the 700 nitro express legal as well as the 950JDJ as many other.
jtcustomknives 3 months ago 18
@jtcustomknives
You're rational is "it's legal because I say so." I bet an NFA lawyer or the ATF would strongly disagree.
djaudiofile 3 months ago

Hippie troll.
Trebono 3 months ago
@Trebono I love guns and my gun rights, I dislike stupid gun owners breaking the law that can land them in federal prison for 10 years and add fuel to make it harder for the rest of us to own guns and NFA items. I own NFA items but I paid the stupid tax stamp and have the paperwork, when people don't it threatens it for the rest of us. The system sucks but that doesn't mean you can invent your own rules.

@djaudiofile You know what's worse? Whining about it on the internet.
Oh, and quit being so obviously jealous. Maybe you should go get a tent and #OccupySomething.

Fuck off! Why don't you wad up your copy (if you own one) of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and wipe you ass with them?
Unregistered? FUCK YOU!
NFA? FUCK YOU AGAIN!!
Extremely Illegal? GO FUCK YOUR MOTHER, YOU COMMIE PIECE OF SHIT!!!
MARINE1146 3 months ago 2
@djaudiofile I believe Amendment 2 of the US Constitution has all that covered for us, we just happen to have a really f^@%&d up government that thinks like you, and people that think like you to make sure we HAVE that f^@%&d up government. :)
MrTKDWillie 3 months ago 13
@MrTKDWillie Sorry but the 2nd amendment isn't going to protect anyone when you build an unregistered NFA destructive device and break federal law. Tell that to the ATF.
I'm with you, the NFA sucks and we should all be able to own and build MGs and all that fun stuff but for now there are laws which need to be followed or if caught with something like this without papers you will lose all your gun rights forever..,
djaudiofile 2 months ago
@djaudiofile Which is why the .600 and .700 Nitro Express aren't NFA Destructive Devices I guess?
And all 12ga and 20ga shotguns with rifled bores and slugs aren't NFA DD's either. (facepalm)
andrew32155 2 months ago
@andrew32155 Shotguns, the .700 nitro, and every other large bore caliber that is legal to use without papers has been granted an EXPLICIT exception by the ATF as for sporting use and they are all mass produced cartridges. Any bore/cartridge over .50 has to be explicitly approved and is not legal until the ATF says it's legal, so since he made a new cartridge it is automatically illegal until it is pettioned to the ATF and they approve it as legal which won't happen since it's not production...
djaudiofile 2 months ago
@andrew32155 By that logic anyone could make a 24.45mmWTF or whatever size you want cannon and say it's legal because they say so and it's for 'sporting use'. The law doesn't work that way.
