I forgot to ask - where can we hear more of this great organist? What church is this? Is he the Organist there? I hope that church is lucky enough to have him on staff. It gives me goosebumps just hearing him play.
This young guy is excellent in my book. Being an organist, since I was 6, I am so glad to see young people have taken an interest in the instrument. The "praise band" is not worship to me. Look at the Crystal Cathedral...it is history. I am so glad it will be used like it should be.
I can tell you what's so great about this video, even if you are disappointed with it. The great part is for us to watch a very talented and gifted young man practicing his craft. When I was your age, I had to be pried away from the organ to go home and do my other homework. This coming fall (2012) I will have been an organist for 43 years of my life. The gift of being able to play is our gift from God-what we do with it is our gift back. Keep up the good work!!!
Man oh man! What an inspiration this young man is to me! Great church music and creative and rousing organ playing is in safe hands with the likes of this young musician. I love the was end confidence with which he plays. Please record more!
...v well done young man , unlike professional organists who ,more interested in their own viruosity , usually play hymns too slowly .... church congregations are there to sing along with gusto not to be dragged along by turgid playing ! don't have self doubts . god bless !
Yong man, you make my heart soar with your registrations. BRAVO! It does my heart so much good to know there are young people that want to keep the tradition of fine organ music going and that in this age of digital keyboards our craft will not fae away.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (November 6, All Saints' Sunday), we sang this as the opening hymn. Ditto for me as I did likewise at a local Lutheran Church that I filled in at. It is #422 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. May God bless all of those who have gone before us.
Here's one great, young organist! Keep up the work. There'll be lots of churches that will want your ministry of music! Liked the registration for the 2nd and 3rd verses in particular.
May I suggest one addendum to the registration: Keep the 16' pedal reed throughout OR the great to pedal coupler ON (alternate between stanzas is best). On the last line of each stanza add the brighter mixtures to emphasize the 'Alleluias'. Do the latter for each stanza.
I don't quite understand your comments in the beginning. What's so great about this video is seeing a young organist who is so talented. I wish I played that well and had just a nice grasp of registration when I was your age -- keep up the great work!
I noticed this video has 6 dislikes. Those people who dislikes his playing obviously can't play them selves. I think he played this hymn like a professional!
The time is coming soon, when THE LORD will call upon His servant Rees, to help save a great church and a great instrument, for HIS GLORY and the refreshment of souls all over His creation!

my goodness! that was great. how old are you? such immense talent! i would have thought the piece was being played by an adult organist had there not been a video of you.
I cannot believe that the composer for this hymn, Ralph Vaughn Williams, was an Agnostic even though his father was a pastor. Anyway this is my favorite hymn and I want it sung at my funeral - all verses, loud, fast and strong. I heard a huge Symphony Orchestra and Chours sing this once and I thought I was going to rapture right out of the building. God is definitely glorified through this song.
@mrenchamade I don't think Cameron is "cheesy", he plays very well. It's the showman part that might be a bit "cheesy", ..but people seem to like it because Cameron is making money most church organists would dream of making.

Nice performance...A little prodigy in need of HELP...Will not acknowledge questions or comments about his abilities...Where's Mom and/or Dad to assist his normal, human development...How beautiful and how sad at the same time...By his own choices, a social misfit...Look out, world, who knows what thoughts are lingering in his young, unpredictable mind...He's not a machine...And he's far from responding as a totally healthy person...STAY TUNED!!!
@SmartBC90 You are SO out of line talking this way! The lad is quite talented, and I don't think he needs ANY help from you or anyone else, thank you!
Hey, little guy, The Roman Catholic Church performs this hymn on many occasions...The Basilica of Queen of All Saints in The Archdiocese of Chicago provides a perfect setting for the spirituality arising from such a marvelous work by RVW...Baptists and Catholics have much to share in our praise and love for The Lord.
You are a truly gifted human being, graced by Our Loving Lord with exceptional abilities...I suspect you are also a deeply moral and spiritual kid, who believes in the essence of what your fingers and hands and feet convey...Don't be afraid of sharing your identity...MANY human persons would love to hear your story and share in your journey of achievement..."Dominus Vobiscum!"
@tremson This hymn is SUPPOSED to be a big noise. It's a tribute to saints of the past and praising God for the strength He gives in the midst of strife. Not all songs are going to be quiet and contemplative.
many of your hymn choices and style would make you a good anglican, lurtheran, presby, methodist, you play many of my favorites well and I often listen to you between patients - I work in a psychiatric emergency center- LOL
I like this hymn a lot also but have never been asked to play it in church. I guess the Baptists don't know who RVW is. Well done!!!.... and a nice instrument to boot. I wish that when I was your age I could have had access to such a great organ to practice on.
My God! Young man you are awesome! I read you conceal your identity--GOOD FOR YOU! However, with playing like this, your identity will be revealed soon enough. God bless you, my friend!!!
This is very good, I'm also and Organist, I'm 15, I have videos up using my church organ but its an 100 year old hunk of junk so I dont have alot of variety either. I'm in the process of learning how to read fluently, you think you can look at my videos and help me out?
The console appears to be a Rodgers with PR300 midi sequencer/sound module installed. A very nice combination with the Ruffatti pipework. Quite similar to the instrument I play every Sunday in Florida.
man dude! I enjoyed that! you played it at the right speed and your pedaling was great! your reg was also awesome! me being 20 and have been playing for 1 years and seeing you makes me happy to see that another young person enoys playing the organ! keep it up! you'll really go far!!! paul jacobs, dianne bish and cameron carpenter have nothing on you kid!
As an organist myself, I have always rated others on what they do with this great hymn. You were great. It was very interesting to note that Nigel, who has just posted his excellent version of this, is in agreement, Unfortunently, I was never able to get that special something into it.
where is this Church organ? Its a very nice organ! Plus you play very well. Episcopal Chruches sing this song on saints and holy days. keep up the good playing, you'll make a wonderful church organist
You play very well. I love the sound of the diapason in this organ. This was the recessional hymn at my mother's funeral, and has always been one of my favorites!
Nice registration to mirror the text. Actually I like the way this organ records on video better than the Austin. The Principals are"rounder" in tone but also have clarity of line. Nice playing. You'll make the congregation want to sing and that's the main point of playing hymns--- get them to sing and to understand the meaning of the text. Your playing conveys the emotion of the words.
I've always like organ sounding music, and admired the young organist, whom performed it very good. Thanks be to God he was given this gift from our God. Thank You Jesus!!!!!!FBMC
Thanks. The problem with this instrument is that alot of your registrations sound the same. You don't have alot of variety, sound your playing can get boring.
I particularly like this video because it shows the organist completely. You can see his hands and his feet, and have a complete view of the "dance" he is doing as he plays. Too many times, videos of organists spend time showing the organ pipes.
Well done,octavebasse8! You should try this on the Flentrop organ in Saint Marks Episcopal Cathedral,Seattle,Washington. This instrument has suspended mechanical action on the manuals and electric stop action with solid state memory so you can have pistons.I have played and recorded on this organ myself and the sound is glorious with 5 seconds of reverberation. The Dutch voicing is wonderful for hymn playing.Just fly there and play!
Very well played. If you attend a Baptist church, it is unlikely that you'll hear this much, unfortunately. I go to a Methodist church here, and a Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, both of which are more formal and play this one. kepp up the good work!!!
ok, I gotta know. How old are you kid? If you don't mind me asking. You are very talented. You have better playing style than alot of adults do. I'm a 26 year old lutheran. I can play a little. (hunt and peck) I wish I could play half as well as you. Also one of my faves. Keep up the great work. God bless!!
The music, that is, his love for the music, is color-blind so to speak, and when played as an instrumental, who's to know. Anyway, churches have frequently changed the words of musical text to suit their doctrinal proclivities. Ours strikes every instance of the male pronoun when referring to God or Christ to make the text as gender non-specific as possible (as it pertains to words on a page of music anyway).
Of course that discussion opens a big can or worms, doesn't it. I admit that is does.
Very nicely played, this was always one of our favourite hymns at school and I always used to enjoy playing it in the school chapel. In places you wonder what to do with your left hand as you can see here! In the 1906 edition of The English Hymnal, RVW doesn't put his name to any of the tunes and the name of this one may reflect that. Incidentally dagdale, Kingsfold is a folk song rather than a composition by RVW, possibly from The Star of County Down,
For those who love this hymn tune Sine Nomine, may I draw your attention to 'Kingsfold' also composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams for the hymn 'I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say'.
Excellent! It's nice to see that you've posted a new video as it's been some time. You're an excellent organist, and as you get older, you will become phenomenal! It was you that inspired me to post videos here in the first place and I thank you for it (new videos from me in the next 2 weeks shot in NYC). What church is this and where is it? Also, what kind of camcorder did you use? Good job young man!!
Another great job! Question: Pipe organ is an unusual instrument for a young lad to take up. How did you get interested in it. Do you have family members that are organists or clergy? Most lads your age would be more attracted to drums, guitar, or maybe trumpet...Please stick to this instrument!
That is a monitor. It is used to hear the feed coming from the PA system. You can hear any mic channel from the mixer right to that little box which is a monitor. Galaxy Monitor to be exact.
You are very talented...find your place on the rising arc, and keep growing. I like this hymn, your style, and your registration(s), plus your pedal work is getting better all the time, and it's not just the fancy organ shoes, I think!
Suggestion: get or steal a copy of the 1940 Episcopal Hymnal & learn the version therein. The 'middle' verses (of 6) are played/sung in a 4 part arrangement - where the pedals could either remain silent or play some of the (different) Bass line. The final verse is then either as you played or w/descant.
You will like it - it also gives the opportunity for interesting stop changes.
I have a copy of the 1940 Episcopal hymnal... nice book. Typically I use the... other one. I've seen it so many times the date doesn't affect me any longer. The Presbyterian hymnal on the other hand... I can't say I like it. Allot of good hymns missing.
If your refering to the blue presby hymnal, I dont like it either. Too many good hymns left out and too many that no one ever sings. I use my old hymnals more often.
I forgot to ask - where can we hear more of this great organist? What church is this? Is he the Organist there? I hope that church is lucky enough to have him on staff. It gives me goosebumps just hearing him play.

Great stop selection on ALL your videos!

Thanks. The problem with this instrument is that alot of your registrations sound the same. You don't have alot of variety, sound your playing can get boring.
octavebasse8 2 years ago
Well, you just go to show how a talented organist can make up for a mediocre instrument!
russelelane 2 years ago 2
Hmmm...thats interesting. I want to come play this organ
DesireeDeFete 2 years ago
@octavebasse8 You really need to listen more closly. His Registration changes at least 3x
then goes to full ogan at the end

Virgil Fox said he was an organist in a former life. Well, he's been gone since 1980. Are you Virgil Fox reborn?

A little Cameron Carpenter in the making!! Rock on Dude!!

Lvoe Cameron...but I'd say a Fred Swann! A special flair and gift for hymns, this one has.

very well done and nice pedal work.. as an old episocpal organist I know this one rather well.Great hymn
wljmrbill 2 years ago 7

I am greatly impressed with a young man who is so skilled and so evidently in love with the hymns of the church.

Very well played. If you attend a Baptist church, it is unlikely that you'll hear this much, unfortunately. I go to a Methodist church here, and a Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, both of which are more formal and play this one. kepp up the good work!!!
mattsplace85 2 years ago
ok, I gotta know. How old are you kid? If you don't mind me asking. You are very talented. You have better playing style than alot of adults do. I'm a 26 year old lutheran. I can play a little. (hunt and peck) I wish I could play half as well as you. Also one of my faves. Keep up the great work. God bless!!

Why Can't you sing it in Church; especially on the Feast of All Saints
paulito97 2 years ago
if you read the young mans comments you will see that he is baptist, i am sure they would not celebrate the feast of all saints

I admit that is does.
billjhyt 2 years ago
Very nicely played, this was always one of our favourite hymns at school and I always used to enjoy playing it in the school chapel. In places you wonder what to do with your left hand as you can see here! In the 1906 edition of The English Hymnal, RVW doesn't put his name to any of the tunes and the name of this one may reflect that. Incidentally dagdale, Kingsfold is a folk song rather than a composition by RVW, possibly from The Star of County Down,

Who are you? What church is this and what State? Why is it you don't give you name. Excellent playing for a young man, we enjoyed.
Thank you
Chesterbarnes1 2 years ago
Ok, here are your answers:
a. My name is Octavebasse8
b. This is a big Baptist church.
c. The state is in SE America.
Some people say I'm too careful with my identity, but, I think it's important that you be careful.
octavebasse8 2 years ago 6
I don't blame you for being careful with your identity and location, there are a lot of strange people out there.

One person tried to send me a package, so they sent it to the church I usually practice at. CRAZY, I know!
octavebasse8 2 years ago
Maybe somebody was trying to thank you for sharing your talent with the world and sent it to the organ you recorded most.
octavegeigen4 2 years ago
@octavebasse8 You are right! Especially considering that most male church organists are tootsie-fruitsies!

For those who love this hymn tune Sine Nomine, may I draw your attention to 'Kingsfold' also composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams for the hymn 'I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say'.
You may well like this hymn tune too.
Look on Youtube for versions by (1) Fluteceleste,
(2) Virtual Church, or (3) Anthony Way.
R.V.W. revised the English Hymnal.

GREAT t performance and tempo. I heard the Ruffatti at Coral Ridge on Easter, Samuel is a fine Organist. Keep up the SWELL work - Lance †

Another great job! Question: Pipe organ is an unusual instrument for a young lad to take up. How did you get interested in it. Do you have family members that are organists or clergy? Most lads your age would be more attracted to drums, guitar, or maybe trumpet...Please stick to this instrument!

What's that black thing next to the organ bench?
octavegeigen4 2 years ago
BTW I'm talking about the box on the pole with a wire sticking out of the back.
octavegeigen4 2 years ago
That is a monitor. It is used to hear the feed coming from the PA system. You can hear any mic channel from the mixer right to that little box which is a monitor. Galaxy Monitor to be exact.

You are very talented...find your place on the rising arc, and keep growing. I like this hymn, your style, and your registration(s), plus your pedal work is getting better all the time, and it's not just the fancy organ shoes, I think!

where did u get this music out of?

He probably got it out of one of the many Hymnals available these days.

By the looks and sounds of it, an Allen Quantum or Elite series?
Millerbt12 2 years ago
I'm pretty sure it is a Ruffati pipe organ with a Rodgers console. I say it's a Rodgers because of the light up pistons
octavegeigen4 2 years ago
Ah, I see. The organs sound much alike, but as you pointed out, the pistons are light-up. They even look much alike.

That's #66 in our hymnal. I love it!

Very well played!
19lfm12 2 years ago
I have a copy of the 1940 Episcopal hymnal... nice book. Typically I use the... other one. I've seen it so many times the date doesn't affect me any longer. The Presbyterian hymnal on the other hand... I can't say I like it. Allot of good hymns missing.
codeman2008 2 years ago
The new Presbyterian Hymnal...stinks:p Find an old one; much better!
You refer to the (GASP!) 1982 Episcopal Hymnal?
*shudders*
It's bloody awful: badly edited, very hard to find things (the editor must have been dyslexic), and eliminated many very lovely hymns.
...though it does make a lovely doorstop:)
19lfm12 2 years ago
If your refering to the blue presby hymnal, I dont like it either. Too many good hymns left out and too many that no one ever sings. I use my old hymnals more often.
