My boyfriend bought our tickets for this March and I am soooo excited. We're seeing them at the Pantages in Los Angeles and we've got orchestra seats! And not only that, we're doing the high school edition of RENT at my school. I actually got the part of Joanne! The thing is, the girl who got Maureen is an alto while I'm a soprano and in take me or leave me they've got me doing all the high harmonies because she cant hit them! HA! (i wanted mareen in the first place so that makes me smile) :P

Thanks for the comment. It is worth repeating that there are some terrific individual performances. I would gladly watch it again because of the great songs (the ones that haven't been messed with too much) and some very good performers. The show as a whole does not hang together well though.

Of course it doesn't Jonathan Larson died while he was still in the process of writing it. The last song he wrote was Take Me or Leave Me. if that song was any indication of his talent then Broadway really lost a creative treasure.

i don't think so. on January 25th 1996 they were showing the preview for Rent but he died in his apartment late at night before. so that means the show was done, they couldn't have shown it if he never finished it.

Do you know what a preview really is? It's designed to show the people what the show is like at that moment, but it is, in all reality still a work in progress. They perform the show, get feedback and get back to working on the show. Numbers could still be added, dropped, or in some rare cases the show could be reworked or scrapped entirely. According to the OBC, Mr. Larson was still writing songs and working on the mechanics of the show.
