  • amazing song! should've known it was a Jimmy webb one . Jimmy & Glen = GOLD

  • I remember this song so well from the 80's but had NO idea it was Glen. I even have a "greatest hits" CD. Where is this song?....I loved it then; I love it now! Thanks for posting.

  • My favorite Glen song!

  • @Mitchsmith62 - it really hurt me so bad knowing such sad stories of two people fell in love and falling apart, while the love remains in their heart. Why there be love like this? And why can't these two people fight and stand firm for their love? Why that so???

  • I first heard this song with my dad on a rare trip alone together. He is now gone, and this song just makes my heart ache to see him again, but ache in a sweet way. There will never be another glenn campbell. Ive loved him for all of my 50 years.

  • Memories.. he always was the best story teller in song....

  • This is my favorite Glen Campbell song. I love Wichita Lineman, and Galveston, et. al. But this is the top for me. I love the imagery that this song paints in my mind... Thanks for sharing...

  • @auldjaded Ironic, those are my 2 very favorite Campbell songs, also. But this just resonates with the grief and longing for what is no more. What a gifted man!

  • I rediscovered this song today after so many years. This is one of the most underrated Glen Campbell songs, and one of the most underrated songs ever written since it doesn't often get mentioned when Jimmy Webb's extensive catalog of brilliant songs is referenced. No one like Glen can convey toughness and vulnerability all at once, and that unique quality shines through in this song. It's a masterpiece and I'm glad I rediscovered it! I just wish there was a high-quality version to download!

  • Glen Campbell's last #1 country single on any of the national country singles charts. Reached #1 on R&R in January 1988. #4 on Billboard in February 1988.

  • @nemesisgenius Sorry, I take my information from Joel Whitburns "Top Country Singles" books and it says the song reached #5 on the Billboard Chart.

  • @KSMusicGeeks I was close.

  • If only one word could describe this...exceptional!

  • When melancholy, I used to sing Wichita Lineman or By the Time I Get To Phoenix to myself, but when really down, and missing the lost love of my life, there's nothing like this song. This is Glen Campbell at his very best! Long ago, I too had a cassette of this, which I wore out!

  • I was in the USAF stationed in the UK when this came out, fortunate to get a copy of the cassette at our tiny BX, wore it out. I there any way you could upload "I Have You" off of this album? As much as I treasure this one, that one makes my heart soar!

  • As said earlier, this song is indeed beautiful beyond belief, but no surprise as it's a Jimmy Webb creation. As a radio announcer, this song has a special meaning for me...as cliche as it sounds, going from city to city to work and leaving behind people you love while your voice carries over the airwaves...yeah.

  • Jimmy L. Webb and Glen Campbell were always such a great combination. This one is my most favorite. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • Great upload! Thanks

  • i will NEVER get tired of this song!! Makes me stop and think of my first love.

  • This song is beautiful beyond belief. When you hear it, it seems like the whole world should take a pause. Glen Cambell is and will always be one of the greatest talents that we were able to enjoy. I just read today about his alzheimer's. So sad.

  • I love this song 6/23/11

  • It's sad that Glen won't be with us for very long, being as he has alzheimers' disease. However, I think this is Glen's best song. A hand also goes up for "Rhinestone Cowboy," and "Southern Nights." I wish Glen a fond farewell when he leaves this earth.

  • He really loves her. So very much and always will.

  • so far no deaf folks have clicked the dislike button. this song is fantastic.

  • This is soooo well done, great vocal, great lyrics. Thanks!

  • to debbie,

  • arkansas born just like johnny cash.

  • I remember requesting this song on the radio oldies station but they never could find it- Thank God for You Tube!

  • Lee Greenwood on harmony vocals. A brilliant record with a stunning arrangement.

  • This song gives me hope for myself. There are times I find myself lost out there in the "Abyss of Life" after making unwise choices. The words here, remind me that even though I mess up, I am still able to ask for forgiveness and forgive myself, then move forward.

  • @Yippity68 You took the words right out of my heart ! Beautifully put my friend !

    Kenny Nash

    youtube Kenny Nash "DESIRE"

  • one of my favorite songs

  • Man, this so great!!

  • Nobody sings Jimmy Webb better than Glen Campbell. Thanks for posting this one!!!

  • Possibly my favorite Glen Campbell song. What an incredible voice and words.

  • This song reminds me of my long lost unrequited love from Texas. We only dated for a year, and yet it was the highest of highs and at the end, the lowest of lows. Sadly I have no idea what became of her or where she has gone, but when I hear this song, it's 1986 all over again. How could one person have such a hold on another person.? Alas, some times, that which we desire the most is the very thing we can never have. Its been a long 24 years. Wherever you are Lorri, I hope you are well.

  • @Mitchsmith62 lorries in newfoundland canada now,

  • @Mitchsmith62 thats beautiful words your saying mitch

  • Try to find her. It shouldn't be too hard. Maybe she's alone. Or maybe, in the finding of her, it will release some of the hold she has on you. I have had a similar experience and, after finding her, we have become great friends. The pain of separation is gone. Good luck.

  • Why is it not stereo?

  • Love This One...Thanks 4-the-post. Greetings From NYC-Tanya

  • ONE OF MY FAVORITE GLENN CAMBELL SONGS!!!!! THANK YOU so much for posting!!!! would you be able to post "I have you"; as well..... I've never found it... and I love it!!! "If these walls could speak" and There was another one called Lighting in a Bottle (?) .... I've never been able to find those... if you could post em and let me now via mssg.. you' will be my favorite person on you tube.... thanks again

  • @dino1836 Was "Lightening in a Bottle" the same song that Jennifer Warnes sang in the movie "The Winter People" with Kurt Russell?

  • glen is a real talent in the truest sense of the word! his interpretations of popular tunes is incredible! he can sing all of jim webb tunes naturally! his take on the greeen day song time of your life is excellent! and the tom petty tune from she,s the one (can,t remember the name is good too!) has supportedthe beach boys in brians spot on bass! awesome!

  • Yes, we are still within the sound of this great voice. Just ordered his Meet Glen Campbell album.....

  • Jimmy Webb, one of the all time great song writers. And of course the great Glen Campbell one of the most gifted talents who is still going strong. Glen great song!

  • GREAT Jimmy Webb tune.

  • Many Thanks for the Posting!

  • Two killer lines:

    Where have you gone

My darling one (Dam... knife to the heart)

If it's wrong then I have no choice

    But to love you until

I no longer have the will (Major league lyric)

  • my sentiments exactly.

  • Not the best gc song, but THE best song of all time. Can't thank you enough for posting it.

  • At a loss why this song is not considered one of greatest GC songs ever -- maybe one of most beautiful songs by anyone period. I was thunderstruck first time I heard it: a heartbreaking song by a vocalist who wields one of the most emotive voices I've ever heard. Range and expressiveness are unparallelled (note here 2:57 and following; and, of course, Witchita Lineman). Nobody sings melancholy like Glen Campbell. What a treasure he has been to us over the years. Celebrated not nearly enough.

  • I have thought the same thing. I think the reason is because it was released late 80's during a time when country musci was really struggling and pop although awful - was well very popular. If he did this in the late 60's it would have been a #1 and considered his top 2 or 3 songs.

  • @sjplwc Hey,isn't THAT the truth?!! Glen knew what to do with a song, hands down.No one like him.

  • I really like this, not sure if better verison than Linda Ronstadt, damn it soo close.cheers.

  • With respect, Zodist, I don't think it's even a contest. Ms. Rondstadt's cover is lovely; Glen's is shattering. Far as I'm concerned, nobody should even attempt to cover any of his classics -- he is one of a kind. Of course, just my very subjective opinion.

  • Thank you so much for posting this lovely haunting song. I think it is one of Glen's best. Best wishes from a geek girl from Kansas and thanks.

  • It does not get any better than this.

  • Thanks for sharing Glen is a living legend .A great upload !

  • This song makes me cry all the time. It reminds me of a lost Love from a long time ago. Glen is awesome.

  • Just a beautiful song. Thank you for posting.

  • Great song. One of my all time favoriets.

  • this song is one of the greatest songs of all time

  • My favorite Glen Campbell song. Thanks.

  • Yes, thanks so much for posting. It's been TOO long since I've heard this one. :)
