why does ppl with great body has hollow cheeks and thin face ??? same problem with me from time i start going to gym i start loosing my face fats rapidly which i dont want ..any cure for it scooby ???
Sorry, you cant control where the fat comes off when you lose weight. If you want to have ripped abs, the fat comes off the face too making it thinner.
Actually i've been studying this particular subject. I have found that men / women put on and lose weight in the "last in, first out" pattern. Also men versus women put on fat in nearly and opposite pattern to each other. Men put on fat around the lower abs, then upper, then spreads to the extremeties. Women do it the opposite. So for a man to lose weight, his arms, legs, and face will be the first to lose visible fat.
scooby im pretty new to your videos but i've been working out my whole life and im a lanky athletic guy....
N my opinion your great cuz ive been watching your videos and doin the exercises for about a week and i've seen more results n one week than n my whole life this is great im glad your here thanks
All your videos are excellent, Scooby - Thanks so much for sharing your insight, hints and tips on Body building. I have incorporated a number of your exercises into my own routine. All the best from the UK

hey scooby i really appreciate yourvids. i have a question. i work out 4x a week, 2 being upper + abs w/ cardio and other 2 das are lower with abs and harder cardio. when i do uper body should i work out section by section, or alternate? lik 1 shoulder -> 1 chest -> 1 tri -> 1 bi then repeat like that?
Hey Scooby. I've been following your home exercises and nutritional recipes for 5 months now. I see a HUGE improvement and I owe it all to you. Keep up making the #1 Exercise videos on youtube!
I'm 49 years old. I weigh 252lbs. My ideal weight is 210lbs. I am out of condition haven't exercised for many a year. I am medically OK to take up exercise without restriction. Can I achieve a body like yours or even close before I die!!!!!!!!!!
Well considering 'scooby' has been doing this for many years...Doubtful. It takes years to add on mass. Your best bet is to slowly change your diet to a more healthy option, while attending the local gym.
That is a very good question and the answer is maybe, maybe not. You will workout religiously for about 5 years to find out, either way, you win. Everyone can get in *better* shape, not everyone can look like Arnold. Just losing the fat to show off your 6-pack abs will make an amazing difference, you can definitely achieve that! The question is, how much muscle can you add. My guess is that by the time you get 6-pack abs you will feel like a teenager again anyway :)
64ironman: One thing is certain, you will get great results in many areas, like Scooby said you can make a remarkable difference in physique, like Evilcyber said there are many other great benefits besides the purely aesthetic. I wasted too much time trying to predict what results I could get and if it was worth the effort. It *is* worth it.
There are tons of balance type weight workouts you can do involving swiss balls. I might cover those in a few years but I need to get my basic exercises covered first. Do a google search on "swiss ball exercises"
zomgnousersleft: Lifting a weight on a machine means the machine holds the weight steady, you just have to lift it. With free weights, your muscles have to work extra hard to do the same movement because you have to control the weight in all directions. Adding an element of instability exaggerates this effect, it's another way to put new demands on the muscle. Expect to use lighter weights. Scooby's already suggested swiss ball exercises- in my experience they're harder than they look!
I remember you said that abs should be done before or after working out not in between. whats the logic behind that?? casue i feel if you do them in the middle of your workout it gives you a break and at the same time you are still working out not losing anything. hows that??
ameenuk2000: Scooby said don't do abs (or stretching etc)between sets, because then you are not focussing fully on the muscle(s) you are working on in those main sets. If you watch the Focus video agin that should explain it. My personal view is that abs are best worked last, because they play an important role in stabilising the body and protecting your lower back when doing other exercises, so you don't want them fatigued already when you are doing those other exercises.
Thats the stupidest thing iv heard, if you work your abs first and fatigue them then you will have no stabalisation doing deadlifts, squats or bent over rows.
hey, if i was doing three different types of push-ups fairly intensly and doing two sets of each one, then doing two sets of dips, then two sets of the pull ups you did on this vid(and on each set i go till failure for all excercises) is this an effective workout if so then how often should i do it, how much time should i let my muscles rest, and if not what do you suggest...thanks
i suggest you do some of your own research you lazy bastard lol, i that is not an effective work out, you will need to mix it up a little and ad some weights x
easy now, im just looking for some suggestions, everywhere i look it tells me to do something different so i decided to ask scooby a question since he seems to have lifted a few weights in his life time, but instead i get someone like you who answers and just brings my confidence down...i think im gonna cry a little now
i was only joking, that is why i put LOL. i was serious when i said about mixing it up, you dont wana do the same work out over and over, your body will get used to it in no time. x
ya i was joking too lol, but you mean mix it up as in different workouts for the same, like those push-ups work my chest, so you mean different workouts for the chest or just for different muscle group altogether
ill use chest as an example, my fav excersize is bench press, but my body is used to this movement, so in order to get a good chest workout i do flys, inclined dumbell press ect. ect., what im sayin is if you do that workout program you said about over and over your body will just get used to it and your make very little and after a while probly no gains, i hope this makes sense lol, try to surprise your muscles by doing exersises you have not tried before.
ya i see what your saying, i took a fitness class in grade 12 and use to work out in a gym everyday and we were taught all the excercises, so i know most them, like for chest i used to do what you were saying incline bench, flys, i use to do the cable-cross and all those and i gained about 20lbs through those 5 months, so im not exactly a beginner...the only thing is im in university residence right now so im only limited to one room and no weights so im trying to find the best thing to do
ya thats probably the best plan ill try for some, so how many times a week do you suggest my insanely good workout(lol), or should i just drop it altogether
easy now, im just looking for some suggestions, everywhere i look it tells me to do something different so i decided to ask scooby a question since he seems to have lifted a few weights in his life time, but instead i get someone like you who answers and just brings my confidence down...i think im gonna cry a little now
scooby what did you use to make your pull up bar? what kind of bar is it and how is it attached to the ceiling? what kind of supports are you using for it?
the only question i have is how can i attach it to the ceiling? i am going to attach it to a stud in my basement but i was wondering what i should use to hold it in place so that it wont fall
i started train end of february, i couldn't take one, at the start of october i could take 9-10 (the last one was a bit bad) the grip i use is both hands on my side of pole (palm facing away)
Hey what would be a great shoulder and forearm workout? I dont want to go into the wrong direction by doing workouts that could possibly harm my body so I want to ask the professionals first
Scooby I seriously want to thank you for all of these videos. It's very refreshing to be greeted with a smile and a sense of humor instead of grunts and frowns. Very nicely done.
which exercise almost killed you by 2 reps? the hardest one i know is a one handed hand stand pushup... i only could provide you with the german name.
supplements rule!
highly dosed zinc gave me clean skin again.
creatine gave me a power increase to 140% and ive managed 120kg (265lbs) bench press series on this. i used a mix formula by a proper german company. but i dont trust in american wares. i bet te problems from your page were caused by sickly overpriced weider stuff^^
Hey Scooby, How long should you rest between sets and how many sets would you recommend? Is it your regular 1/2 minute rest and 3 sets each way?
Oh and I've also been following your videos for a few months now and I've seen amazing results so I just wanted to say thanks a whole lot for posting =]
There is no right answer for the 'proper' amount of rest to take between sets. If you are doing a low weight, high rep workout it might be zero rest between sets. If you are doing high weight/low rep it might be 5minutes between sets.
my personal trainer is a trainer for olympic athletes and he has s[ecific times for rests depending on what exercises u do, weight, reps, etc. if you're interested scooby i could send them to you. :)
If you have tennis elbow, you can still exercise lats. Get hanging ab straps and put them under your elbows, then you can raise yourself up and down slowly with the weight on your elbows. It is almost the exact same motion as a pullup but with no stress on wrist, forearm, and elbow.
you know your killler 45 min arm workout, the coments are disabled so ill ask here
i read that you do that no more then once month, is it JUST that or do you do other less harder arm workouts inbetween, or do you just do that every month and nothing else?
Sorry, I should have made that clear. When I say I do one of my killer workouts only once a month, I do less stressful workouts inbetween. For example, I do each bodypart once a week so if I do the killer arm workout in the first week then for the next three weeks I will just do some traditional arm workouts.
what do you thimk about supplements like creatine and whey protein? Scooby or anybody that wants to give their opinion. I just started weight lifting about a week ago and I was wondering if supplements really do help?
Protein is very important. You can get enough of it from eating a ton of meat or other foods, but most people don't and supplementing with protein supplements prevents additional fats and carbs. So I highly suggest it, but make sure you do your research. Stick to the type of whey you want to use (isolate, casein, etc.) Creatine is good, but make sure to cycle it and dose it properly or you won't see any results. Besides those two, some amino acids & multivitamis, I'd stay away from anything else
whenever i do dumbell presses, one of my shoulders joints hurt. the funny thing is, its just usually just ONE arm that does it.
AND, sometimes when i work out my deltoids, it seems that my left deltoid muscles ache more when i work out. does that mean that i am working my left shoulder out more?
i cant answer the joint problem and i recommend you go see a doctor about the pain if it continues but anyways if your left deltoid muscle aches more than your right muscle when your done working out it usually means that your working that one out more or your right deltoid is stronger than your left so you dont work your right one out as hard once they get to equal strength they will ache the same
what do you fell is a "fatiga" tired of yourt muscle, it maybe because you nevcer give him rest, or maybe just because when you work out you move to MUCH weight and that make you do wrongs movement that can hurt you, in my opinion you should take resc "DESCANSAR" yours deltoilds, actualli it will be better if you take off one or 2 weeks for all your shoulders,
you always have good form, I appreciate that. I can't stand some of these top bodybuilder bozos who go around jolting weights left and right like they have for the rest of their life. I don't get how they get so big with such bad form. but yours is good, it avoids injury and keeps the idiots at bay. thanks
Actually, I think the problem is not with the pro BBers, its with their sponsors. All the pros I have seen train are really smart BBers, not the stereotypical dumb jocks. When they workout they use appropriate weights with great form but when the film crew comes from their sponsor or magazine, they have to put on a show so they go grab the biggest dumbbell.
hey scooby i gots a question. i am almost 17, and i have been working out for approximatly 5 months 4-5x a week. within the last 2 weeks i've switched it up from full body workouts, to 2x upper body +minor cardio to 2 days lower body plus more cardio.
the last several months i've been defining the muscles so they're getting there, but i'm still trying to lose a bit of the fat i have. my cardio on the lower/cardio day is around 30 mins of harder cardio. is this ok?
Doesnt matter what you are talking about with nutrition, you will always find someone who has a reason it isnt healthy. I personally cant think of any reason that boiled egg whites are not healthy but I'm sure you will hear from someone with the opposite view :)
when it gets to diet talk, I just don't listen to those laughable idiots 1500 mls on duratextron and eating a whole box of protein powder crap that doesn't do jack besides fucking up your kidney while the dura fucks up your liver so yeah, not to mention the multi vitamins animal packs, bcaa, glutamine that idiots all take in at the same time. That of course is healthy lol, but not boiled eggs. Pansies, I never took any of that shit, I eat eat and eat logically and healthy, all you need to do ;)
hey, if i was doing three different types of push-ups fairly intensly and doing two sets of each one, then doing two sets of dips, then two sets of the pull ups you did on this vid(and on each set i go till failure for all excercises) is this an effective workout if so then how often should i do it, how much time should i let my muscles rest, and if not what do you suggest...thanks
I was going to say I motivate myself with a few methods.
1. I want to look good in a tight Large size shirt.
2. When I first started feeling unmotivated to work out I drank a large energy drink and Worked out HARD, then while I stretched afterwords I closed my eyes and thought about how good I felt. NOW whenever I don't feel motivated to work out I think about that time and Always remember how good it feels after even if you don't feel like it before.
Everybody has one side stronger than the other, its just a matter of degree. I say, dont stress about it. If you are concerned then dont use machines because they allow the strong side to help out the weak side. Free weights are great because they make each side carry exactly the same load.
I have several other quad exercises I'm going to do but not deadlifts or squats, I think those are just too dangerous for home workouts. Although they are great exercises one really needs to learn them with the guidance of a very experienced coach to make sure you dont get injured. They are also very difficult to spot safely and you need someone with a coach with a lot of experience for that reason also.
thats fair. A friend of mine stressed the importance of deadlifts because it releases hormones that assist generally in body building. Another question (if you have the time). Palms facing, palms not facing. Whats the difference? How to they work the lats differently?
That's too bad! I was hoping to see you execute proper form for squats. I know you've had some chronic knee injury issues as you've mentioned it before in another vid. I've been having some 'running gun battles' in some forums as of late on whether the end of the squat should = legs @ 90 degree angle vs. a little bit below that. Explosive finish vs. a 6 second total rep, etc. I get a wide range of answers. Would love to hear your opnion. Thanks for all your passion and hard work!
Scooby, what does a man have to do to have a six pack? I mean, I watch what I eat 4 out of 5 of my meals per day, and on my fifth, I just have a tiny bit of goodies, say like half a slice of pizza. But in your "advanced workout plans" section, you have 30 mins cardio everyday, but you do a whopping 3hr cardio per day! Is that really necessary for someone who is on such a strict diet? I do 40 mins cardio every day, and consume very little junk, just to satisfy the cravings.
PitchBlackForecast: Its quite simple(in theory) to get a sixpack. You just have to reduce the fat on your stomach. The downside is you cannot reduce fat at any specific place, you can only reduce overall bodyfat. Therefore youll have to do cardio.
If one trains properly, a fat guy could have a killer sixpack, but nobody is gonna see it, cause of the fat above it.
ps: Youre the man Scooby, I really enjoy your vids!
Hey PitchBlackForecast, Hang in there! Losing fat is a slow process. It sounds like you are doing everything right. 40min cario is perfect, you dont need to do more. One additional tip that can help. If you *are* going to have a little treat, dont do it after 5pm, do it in the middle of the day when you have a chance to burn it off. After 5pm try to only consume vegetables and protein powder mixed with water.
hey i watch your videos all the time and know you have to "eat less and exercise more" to lose weight and fat. now i need to see how much is enough on your plate. could you make a video showing the foods we should eat and how much is enough on our plate(a visual example). i eat the right type f food but my only problem is i over eat the good nutrition. i also have a problem cutting my body fat what do you suggest? i'm a boxer and do cardio all the time but its extremely hard to lose the fat
No way I can show the portion size because it is different for everyone. You need to calculate how many calories you need based on your weight, the tables are on my website - look at the 6-pack abs section
Check the internet for the "Hacker's Diet". The approach is different from what Scooby outlines on his website (although eating less energy is the goal in both approaches), but it gets very well across how energy consumption affects your body.
i am 17 and have been lifting a fair amount of weights twice a day for the last 9months......ive cut out all sweets and junk food in that period and have near felt better.......any tips on som methods that would improve my biceps mostly?
Lifting twice a day? My advice would be to be very, very careful of overtraining. My guess is that you are not giving your muscles time enough to recover before working them out again and are really limiting your progress. More is not always better!
its nt major lifting.....just in the morning and then in the evening.....i mainly working on biceps and have been lifting with a long time.....but i was just wondering if some of your techniques i.e the traps......would benefit with lighter weights
i get what your say'n.....plus its not a major working out now:L its only lik a 25min workout morn'n and then in the evening.....if i wasnt able for it i wouldnt do it.....im doing now for 9months and feel great.....i include triceps ion my workout so everything is coming on nicely
I've noticed you place your tongue between you teeth when you're lifting weights (not this vid). I used to do that myself until I heard that there are people who almost bit off their own tongue when doing that. When you loose focus you might bite your tongue.
Ontopic, great vid, I'll be sure to try this one next time I'm gonna train my back!
I make all kinds of goofy faces and noises when I'm lifting at 110% intensity, including sticking my tongue out. I think the people biting their tongue off are either doing powerlifting exercises or are doing isolation exercises with really bad form.
I've been doing scooby's workouts for about a year and a half. I started out with his beginer workout then I moved into doing beginer one day a week and intermediate a second day a week for 2 months. Now I have been on the intermediate for about 10 months. I've lost 40 lbs. and 4 pants sizes. the only think I changed in my diet is no drinks other then pure juice/water/milk, no red meat, splenda instead of sugar, no salt or butter. It wasn't that hard and you don't notice in time.
hmm no offence but his workouts are mostly about gaining mass? he doesnt do much cardio... jus muscle pumping exercises but still glad to har you are achieving what you wana achieve...
We have people with varying degrees of experience here and what might appear a stupid question to a professional trainer might be a valid question for someone just starting out. Please dont call people names, lets try and be supportive of the beginners here. If its a really basic question you feel they should know then just tell them where to look for the info, for example: "try googling 'heart rate and cardio' "
I've said my piece about nutrition and cardio (with the 45min 6-pack abs series) and emphasized the importance of cardio in losing fat. On my website I emphasize everywhere I can that CARDIO is the most important thing you can do for your health and that if you only have 30min to workout then you should skip the weights and just do cardio.
Yeah it's really cool to see the muscle gain. I've probably lost much more then 40lbs in fat, My waist is almost 10 in. I'm on the edge of going down another pants size. I've noticed extreme changes in my arms, shoulders, and legs.
One thing I don't think scooby does enough of is leg. Squats are amazing for your largest muscle group, Larger muscles burn more fat, so IMO getting the most mass for the least work is squats. I'm not a professional though, it's just worked for me.
I have before pictures but I don't have any afters yet. When I am closer to my goal I will send you pics. I still have a ways to go.
BTW One thing that I think is the biggest problems people is motivation. What did you do to motivate yourself in the beginning and what do you do now?
im 18 years old at 145 pounds. i have been working out for a little more then a year and now ive stopped gaining. im going to mix up my routine with some of your suggestions but i also want to stay lean. how much cardio a day would you recommend to me without doing too much and end up losing muscle?
Hey MyNameIsJohn, Just dont fall into the trap that many do. When you say you have "stopped" gaining, what do you mean? Many folks make rapid gains their first year and expect them to continue, but its not possible to sustain that. When you become an intermediate/adv BBer, yearly mass gain is hardly measurable or visible (5lbs/yr, 10 if you are very lucky). Many turn to supplements in an effort to sustain those first year gains and end up disappointed and broke.
Hey Scooby, I was looking at your site and stumbled upon the protein and weight gain powders section and i had a question. I'm 16, do you think it a health risk if i start taking the optimum nutrition whey protein?
tommy: you are better off using protein supplements as just that: a supplement. natural protein in the form of meat or eggs or such as part of a balanced diet is the key to building muscle. have some protein powder after a workout if you feel like it, but really you're better off just eating more normal dietary protein.
Good question tommywho924, I need to add this to my website. Young men between 17 and 22 have a hormone factory raging inside which makes their bodies respond well to weight training. Supplements are just a complete waste of money if you are in this age bracket. All that is needed is adequate sleep and 4-5 small, well balanced meals a day, each with 15-25g protein. BTW set expectations. Working intensely 5days a week for a year and you can expect to gain 5-10lbs muscle.
Same here, I'm using scoobys intermediate workout routine without the cardio part. I get pretty good exercise at work so I usualy skip that part, I probably should start doing it though.
Oh yea, scooby one more thing. Is it ideal to switch from cardio workouts? For example, I have a bike trainer that I use everyday for cardio, but I do it everyday, and would'nt that also be considered overtraining my quadriceps? The weather is getting kind of cold here now, and so I can't go out running, but I do have a treadmill I can use... Well, just wondering if running everyday or biking everyday would be overtainig

I have read a study that indicated that the positive effects of a resistance training even come for people who start at over 70.
You might not hit Scooby's physique, but the other benefits of weightlifting are nothing to be frowned upon either.

Kind of an off question of the whole pullups thing, but I'm wondering: Do you have any balance excercises?
I'm really curious to know, because I know a few, but I really have no idea how they work, and whether another one would be more effective.

There are tons of balance type weight workouts you can do involving swiss balls. I might cover those in a few years but I need to get my basic exercises covered first. Do a google search on "swiss ball exercises"

Well, currently I do abs first, because when they always come last you can fall for the "now the abs and I'm through" mindset.
Evilcyber 3 years ago
Thats the stupidest thing iv heard, if you work your abs first and fatigue them then you will have no stabalisation doing deadlifts, squats or bent over rows.
YouAteMyChicken 3 years ago
So you always prefer to work out your abs when THEY are fatigued?
Evilcyber 3 years ago
yes, rather that than get injured pulling some heavy ass weight from the ground of squatting some heavy ass weight
YouAteMyChicken 3 years ago
Evilcyber: I don't find that, but we are all different :o)
sexomaticveganfreak 3 years ago
Yes, in the end everybody has to find what works best for him.
Evilcyber 3 years ago
Absolutely.
sexomaticveganfreak 3 years ago
Thanks for the tips, but are those noises you make normal? I don't tend to make noises when I do weights. Maybe I am doing it wrong.
Dangerman5 3 years ago
Well, try grunting and puffing for a change and see if it makes your workout better ;)
Evilcyber 3 years ago
Hey scoob, just have a quick question. I have no ass at all and was wondering what is an exercise that works your glutes(ass)?
NightCrawl123 3 years ago
Squats or dumbell lunges work pretty well.
tommywho924 3 years ago
hey, if i was doing three different types of push-ups fairly intensly and doing two sets of each one, then doing two sets of dips, then two sets of the pull ups you did on this vid(and on each set i go till failure for all excercises) is this an effective workout if so then how often should i do it, how much time should i let my muscles rest, and if not what do you suggest...thanks
88FLYERS10o 3 years ago
i suggest you do some of your own research you lazy bastard lol, i that is not an effective work out, you will need to mix it up a little and ad some weights x
stevieboy90rayman 3 years ago
easy now, im just looking for some suggestions, everywhere i look it tells me to do something different so i decided to ask scooby a question since he seems to have lifted a few weights in his life time, but instead i get someone like you who answers and just brings my confidence down...i think im gonna cry a little now
88FLYERS10o 3 years ago
i was only joking, that is why i put LOL. i was serious when i said about mixing it up, you dont wana do the same work out over and over, your body will get used to it in no time. x
stevieboy90rayman 3 years ago
ya i was joking too lol, but you mean mix it up as in different workouts for the same, like those push-ups work my chest, so you mean different workouts for the chest or just for different muscle group altogether
88FLYERS10o 3 years ago
ill use chest as an example, my fav excersize is bench press, but my body is used to this movement, so in order to get a good chest workout i do flys, inclined dumbell press ect. ect., what im sayin is if you do that workout program you said about over and over your body will just get used to it and your make very little and after a while probly no gains, i hope this makes sense lol, try to surprise your muscles by doing exersises you have not tried before.
stevieboy90rayman 3 years ago
ya i see what your saying, i took a fitness class in grade 12 and use to work out in a gym everyday and we were taught all the excercises, so i know most them, like for chest i used to do what you were saying incline bench, flys, i use to do the cable-cross and all those and i gained about 20lbs through those 5 months, so im not exactly a beginner...the only thing is im in university residence right now so im only limited to one room and no weights so im trying to find the best thing to do
88FLYERS10o 3 years ago
ok i see, could you not just get some dumbells ? they dont take up any room but will open up a whole load of different excercises.
stevieboy90rayman 3 years ago
ya thats probably the best plan ill try for some, so how many times a week do you suggest my insanely good workout(lol), or should i just drop it altogether
88FLYERS10o 3 years ago
Check Scooby's website under Workout Plans to get an idea.

Check out the equipment section of my website (Basics>Equipment) and look at the pullup bar section. Not enough space here to put all the info.

thank you i got a good idea from the pictures
the only question i have is how can i attach it to the ceiling? i am going to attach it to a stud in my basement but i was wondering what i should use to hold it in place so that it wont fall

hi,
which exercise almost killed you by 2 reps? the hardest one i know is a one handed hand stand pushup... i only could provide you with the german name.
supplements rule!
highly dosed zinc gave me clean skin again.
creatine gave me a power increase to 140% and ive managed 120kg (265lbs) bench press series on this. i used a mix formula by a proper german company. but i dont trust in american wares. i bet te problems from your page were caused by sickly overpriced weider stuff^^
fel1x87 3 years ago
I know I'm in the minority in my disapproval of supplements and people like yourself are in the majority.
scooby1961 3 years ago
Hey Scooby, How long should you rest between sets and how many sets would you recommend? Is it your regular 1/2 minute rest and 3 sets each way?
Oh and I've also been following your videos for a few months now and I've seen amazing results so I just wanted to say thanks a whole lot for posting =]
unluckyluke69 3 years ago
There is no right answer for the 'proper' amount of rest to take between sets. If you are doing a low weight, high rep workout it might be zero rest between sets. If you are doing high weight/low rep it might be 5minutes between sets.
scooby1961 3 years ago
my personal trainer is a trainer for olympic athletes and he has s[ecific times for rests depending on what exercises u do, weight, reps, etc. if you're interested scooby i could send them to you. :)

I just bought a pull up bar......but i got a tennis elbow that wont go away.
BitingOsprey 3 years ago
If you have tennis elbow, you can still exercise lats. Get hanging ab straps and put them under your elbows, then you can raise yourself up and down slowly with the weight on your elbows. It is almost the exact same motion as a pullup but with no stress on wrist, forearm, and elbow.
scooby1961 3 years ago
cool thanks for the tip :)
BitingOsprey 3 years ago
you know your killler 45 min arm workout, the coments are disabled so ill ask here
i read that you do that no more then once month, is it JUST that or do you do other less harder arm workouts inbetween, or do you just do that every month and nothing else?
ChawPowda 3 years ago
Sorry, I should have made that clear. When I say I do one of my killer workouts only once a month, I do less stressful workouts inbetween. For example, I do each bodypart once a week so if I do the killer arm workout in the first week then for the next three weeks I will just do some traditional arm workouts.
scooby1961 3 years ago
what do you thimk about supplements like creatine and whey protein? Scooby or anybody that wants to give their opinion. I just started weight lifting about a week ago and I was wondering if supplements really do help?
pacomemo21 3 years ago
Protein is very important. You can get enough of it from eating a ton of meat or other foods, but most people don't and supplementing with protein supplements prevents additional fats and carbs. So I highly suggest it, but make sure you do your research. Stick to the type of whey you want to use (isolate, casein, etc.) Creatine is good, but make sure to cycle it and dose it properly or you won't see any results. Besides those two, some amino acids & multivitamis, I'd stay away from anything else
patdpolishpower 3 years ago
hey scooby!
whenever i do dumbell presses, one of my shoulders joints hurt. the funny thing is, its just usually just ONE arm that does it.
AND, sometimes when i work out my deltoids, it seems that my left deltoid muscles ache more when i work out. does that mean that i am working my left shoulder out more?
thanks scooby! your great!
airsoftcrazed 3 years ago
i cant answer the joint problem and i recommend you go see a doctor about the pain if it continues but anyways if your left deltoid muscle aches more than your right muscle when your done working out it usually means that your working that one out more or your right deltoid is stronger than your left so you dont work your right one out as hard once they get to equal strength they will ache the same
hopes this helps

what do you fell is a "fatiga" tired of yourt muscle, it maybe because you nevcer give him rest, or maybe just because when you work out you move to MUCH weight and that make you do wrongs movement that can hurt you, in my opinion you should take resc "DESCANSAR" yours deltoilds, actualli it will be better if you take off one or 2 weeks for all your shoulders,
i hope i could help you

yameconoces 3 years ago
Hey airsoftcrazed,
Its quite common for people to injure one shoulder and not the other. If you can, I would go see a doctor now.
scooby1961 3 years ago
you always have good form, I appreciate that. I can't stand some of these top bodybuilder bozos who go around jolting weights left and right like they have for the rest of their life. I don't get how they get so big with such bad form. but yours is good, it avoids injury and keeps the idiots at bay. thanks
ABL36 3 years ago 2
Its the steroids. You pump enough of that shit into your body and you will grow even with bad form!
jizzlipps 3 years ago
Actually, I think the problem is not with the pro BBers, its with their sponsors. All the pros I have seen train are really smart BBers, not the stereotypical dumb jocks. When they workout they use appropriate weights with great form but when the film crew comes from their sponsor or magazine, they have to put on a show so they go grab the biggest dumbbell.

hey scooby i gots a question. i am almost 17, and i have been working out for approximatly 5 months 4-5x a week. within the last 2 weeks i've switched it up from full body workouts, to 2x upper body +minor cardio to 2 days lower body plus more cardio.
the last several months i've been defining the muscles so they're getting there, but i'm still trying to lose a bit of the fat i have. my cardio on the lower/cardio day is around 30 mins of harder cardio. is this ok?

Hey, i know this a completely random q but is eating 2 boiled egg whites a day completely healthy ?
xunknownsubstancesx 3 years ago
Doesnt matter what you are talking about with nutrition, you will always find someone who has a reason it isnt healthy. I personally cant think of any reason that boiled egg whites are not healthy but I'm sure you will hear from someone with the opposite view :)
scooby1961 3 years ago
when it gets to diet talk, I just don't listen to those laughable idiots 1500 mls on duratextron and eating a whole box of protein powder crap that doesn't do jack besides fucking up your kidney while the dura fucks up your liver so yeah, not to mention the multi vitamins animal packs, bcaa, glutamine that idiots all take in at the same time. That of course is healthy lol, but not boiled eggs. Pansies, I never took any of that shit, I eat eat and eat logically and healthy, all you need to do ;)

88FLYERS10o 3 years ago
a) don't always go to failure.
b) if this is your only workout, do it twice a week. Better yet you vary your exercises more and therefore can work out more often during a week.
Evilcyber 3 years ago
I was going to say I motivate myself with a few methods.
1. I want to look good in a tight Large size shirt.
2. When I first started feeling unmotivated to work out I drank a large energy drink and Worked out HARD, then while I stretched afterwords I closed my eyes and thought about how good I felt. NOW whenever I don't feel motivated to work out I think about that time and Always remember how good it feels after even if you don't feel like it before.
3. key for cardio for me.. Audiobooks!
Pharaoh28 3 years ago
i can do more with right than left, i wonder is thats ok...
cosmickiller123 3 years ago
Everybody has one side stronger than the other, its just a matter of degree. I say, dont stress about it. If you are concerned then dont use machines because they allow the strong side to help out the weak side. Free weights are great because they make each side carry exactly the same load.
scooby1961 3 years ago
oh and i see you have no vids yet of squats of deadlifts. You have done leg extensions but surely you do the other two exercises i mentioned.
nenna69 3 years ago
I have several other quad exercises I'm going to do but not deadlifts or squats, I think those are just too dangerous for home workouts. Although they are great exercises one really needs to learn them with the guidance of a very experienced coach to make sure you dont get injured. They are also very difficult to spot safely and you need someone with a coach with a lot of experience for that reason also.
scooby1961 3 years ago
thats fair. A friend of mine stressed the importance of deadlifts because it releases hormones that assist generally in body building. Another question (if you have the time). Palms facing, palms not facing. Whats the difference? How to they work the lats differently?
Cheers, Nenna
nenna69 3 years ago
That's too bad! I was hoping to see you execute proper form for squats. I know you've had some chronic knee injury issues as you've mentioned it before in another vid. I've been having some 'running gun battles' in some forums as of late on whether the end of the squat should = legs @ 90 degree angle vs. a little bit below that. Explosive finish vs. a 6 second total rep, etc. I get a wide range of answers. Would love to hear your opnion. Thanks for all your passion and hard work!
saintapathy 3 years ago
You get a wide range of answers because everybody responds differently to a given exercise and the way it is executed.
But keep in mind what Scooby said: When squats are done wrong, you can really hurt yourself.
Evilcyber 3 years ago
scooby is the man!
syntheticelement 3 years ago 3
glad to see you again scooby! Whats the difference between palms facing and palms not facing? How do they effect the lats differently?
nenna69 3 years ago
Palms toward you = the biceps does take more of the workload.
Palms away from you = most of the work is done by your back.
Evilcyber 3 years ago
Hi Scoob
I'm not quite strong enough to do these at slow speed in good form.
Are lateral pull downs on a machine just as good, when the bar won't stay fixed on a horizontal or rotational plane ?
tonycatman 3 years ago
This wont work on a lat pulldown machine for the reason you mentioned.
scooby1961 3 years ago
Scooby, what does a man have to do to have a six pack? I mean, I watch what I eat 4 out of 5 of my meals per day, and on my fifth, I just have a tiny bit of goodies, say like half a slice of pizza. But in your "advanced workout plans" section, you have 30 mins cardio everyday, but you do a whopping 3hr cardio per day! Is that really necessary for someone who is on such a strict diet? I do 40 mins cardio every day, and consume very little junk, just to satisfy the cravings.
PitchBlackForecast 3 years ago
PitchBlackForecast: Its quite simple(in theory) to get a sixpack. You just have to reduce the fat on your stomach. The downside is you cannot reduce fat at any specific place, you can only reduce overall bodyfat. Therefore youll have to do cardio.
If one trains properly, a fat guy could have a killer sixpack, but nobody is gonna see it, cause of the fat above it.
ps: Youre the man Scooby, I really enjoy your vids!
mrchh 3 years ago
Hey PitchBlackForecast, Hang in there! Losing fat is a slow process. It sounds like you are doing everything right. 40min cario is perfect, you dont need to do more. One additional tip that can help. If you *are* going to have a little treat, dont do it after 5pm, do it in the middle of the day when you have a chance to burn it off. After 5pm try to only consume vegetables and protein powder mixed with water.
scooby1961 3 years ago
ive done that b4. u can most definitely feel it. But when i just want to mostly focus on biceps when i do a pull up, i do a one handed pull up.

kingofnewyork0202 3 years ago
why dont you look through his other videos before posting a question. He has videos with specific examples, portion sizes, and exactly how to make it
ArmenianAssassin 3 years ago
No way I can show the portion size because it is different for everyone. You need to calculate how many calories you need based on your weight, the tables are on my website - look at the 6-pack abs section
scooby1961 3 years ago
Check the internet for the "Hacker's Diet". The approach is different from what Scooby outlines on his website (although eating less energy is the goal in both approaches), but it gets very well across how energy consumption affects your body.
Evilcyber 3 years ago
hey scooby
i am 17 and have been lifting a fair amount of weights twice a day for the last 9months......ive cut out all sweets and junk food in that period and have near felt better.......any tips on som methods that would improve my biceps mostly?
39razor17 3 years ago
Lifting twice a day? My advice would be to be very, very careful of overtraining. My guess is that you are not giving your muscles time enough to recover before working them out again and are really limiting your progress. More is not always better!
scooby1961 3 years ago
its nt major lifting.....just in the morning and then in the evening.....i mainly working on biceps and have been lifting with a long time.....but i was just wondering if some of your techniques i.e the traps......would benefit with lighter weights
39razor17 3 years ago
If you are "mainly working on biceps", doing that twice a day, then it is likely you may be into overtraining.
Beside, if you want big arms, the triceps is the more important muscle to work on, as it is way bigger than the biceps.
Evilcyber 3 years ago
i get what your say'n.....plus its not a major working out now:L its only lik a 25min workout morn'n and then in the evening.....if i wasnt able for it i wouldnt do it.....im doing now for 9months and feel great.....i include triceps ion my workout so everything is coming on nicely
39razor17 3 years ago
I've noticed you place your tongue between you teeth when you're lifting weights (not this vid). I used to do that myself until I heard that there are people who almost bit off their own tongue when doing that. When you loose focus you might bite your tongue.
Ontopic, great vid, I'll be sure to try this one next time I'm gonna train my back!
murderousintent 3 years ago
I make all kinds of goofy faces and noises when I'm lifting at 110% intensity, including sticking my tongue out. I think the people biting their tongue off are either doing powerlifting exercises or are doing isolation exercises with really bad form.
scooby1961 3 years ago
I've been doing scooby's workouts for about a year and a half. I started out with his beginer workout then I moved into doing beginer one day a week and intermediate a second day a week for 2 months. Now I have been on the intermediate for about 10 months. I've lost 40 lbs. and 4 pants sizes. the only think I changed in my diet is no drinks other then pure juice/water/milk, no red meat, splenda instead of sugar, no salt or butter. It wasn't that hard and you don't notice in time.
_Thanks Scooby

We have people with varying degrees of experience here and what might appear a stupid question to a professional trainer might be a valid question for someone just starting out. Please dont call people names, lets try and be supportive of the beginners here. If its a really basic question you feel they should know then just tell them where to look for the info, for example: "try googling 'heart rate and cardio' "
scooby1961 3 years ago
1. when you are as fat as I was then you lose a lot when you have a bunch more muscle and eat healthier.
2. I did cardio intermediate has cardio. I average 30mins to an hour 3-4 days a week.
It was that I would be dieing even walking an hour slow. Now I can jog for about 10mins then speed walk 10mins etc. I'm getting there.
Also I'd like to point out that I have 4 smaller meals a day now instead of 2-3 large.
Pharaoh28 3 years ago
well done man seriously, keep it up! like i say no pain no gain!

Dcavolli 3 years ago
I've said my piece about nutrition and cardio (with the 45min 6-pack abs series) and emphasized the importance of cardio in losing fat. On my website I emphasize everywhere I can that CARDIO is the most important thing you can do for your health and that if you only have 30min to workout then you should skip the weights and just do cardio.
scooby1961 3 years ago
Congratulations. 40lbs (+- the muscle gained), is a lot of fat. thats 26% of my body weight -_-
nTerms 3 years ago
Yeah it's really cool to see the muscle gain. I've probably lost much more then 40lbs in fat, My waist is almost 10 in. I'm on the edge of going down another pants size. I've noticed extreme changes in my arms, shoulders, and legs.
One thing I don't think scooby does enough of is leg. Squats are amazing for your largest muscle group, Larger muscles burn more fat, so IMO getting the most mass for the least work is squats. I'm not a professional though, it's just worked for me.
Pharaoh28 3 years ago

scooby1961 3 years ago
I have before pictures but I don't have any afters yet. When I am closer to my goal I will send you pics. I still have a ways to go.

scooby,
im 18 years old at 145 pounds. i have been working out for a little more then a year and now ive stopped gaining. im going to mix up my routine with some of your suggestions but i also want to stay lean. how much cardio a day would you recommend to me without doing too much and end up losing muscle?
MyNamelsJohn 3 years ago

I'm 16, do you think it a health risk if i start taking the optimum nutrition whey protein?
tommywho924 3 years ago
tommy: you are better off using protein supplements as just that: a supplement. natural protein in the form of meat or eggs or such as part of a balanced diet is the key to building muscle. have some protein powder after a workout if you feel like it, but really you're better off just eating more normal dietary protein.
analihilator 3 years ago
Very true.
Evilcyber 3 years ago
Good question tommywho924, I need to add this to my website. Young men between 17 and 22 have a hormone factory raging inside which makes their bodies respond well to weight training. Supplements are just a complete waste of money if you are in this age bracket. All that is needed is adequate sleep and 4-5 small, well balanced meals a day, each with 15-25g protein. BTW set expectations. Working intensely 5days a week for a year and you can expect to gain 5-10lbs muscle.
scooby1961 3 years ago
i traine about 3 times a week for about an hour for each day but do no cardio training would this effect me building muscels?

Oh yea, scooby one more thing. Is it ideal to switch from cardio workouts? For example, I have a bike trainer that I use everyday for cardio, but I do it everyday, and would'nt that also be considered overtraining my quadriceps? The weather is getting kind of cold here now, and so I can't go out running, but I do have a treadmill I can use... Well, just wondering if running everyday or biking everyday would be overtainig

I dont think you need to worry about overstraining your quads f
