  • euphonium swag >:D

  • Euphonium represent

  • This is one of the best band songs of all time: such a classic.

  • Ngl, this was a cute lil song. I enjoyed it a lot. <3

  • I played this in high school on the trombone :) It was a lot of fun. And now I'm playing it in my community college band on flute :) I love it!

  • Who could dislike this? I don't get it

  • Lol i played this on the snare drum... though it wasnt exactly hard ..twas still very legit to play :)

  • my favorite part is princess royal when the melody is played on letter B :13-:21

  • I can't help but smile at all the euph players commenting here... When I played this in high school, this was definitely one I had fun playing, especially since my director just about picked it for us just for me. <3

  • oboe!

  • i used to LOVE playing this in band. It had good 3rd trombone part. It is so grand

  • I play euphonium and I have to say, this is probably the greatest (and hardest) solo that I have ever had to play... It was fun... just not for sight reading lol

  • Where's the dang euphonium solo!? It's almost like it's not even there, dang it!!!

  • And I like Andmiral BenBow the best.

  • @Bucketetheadisgod94 I'm playing Euphonium right now in this song! Its awesome.

  • Whoa! I haven't heard this in a while. I can't believe I ever was able to play this. Go flute!

  • I play this song in band. Im in seventh grade and our class sounds pretty good. I play the flute and I love it (:

  • LOOOL I play this in Band! I have a playing exam on it tomorrow.

  • 14th bar of D 1st note. 1st Trombone

  • bari sax player (:

    I love this piece! (:

  • i played the euphonium for this piece, i was the only one and that solo was a pain in the ass! it gave me hell! but i loved it and loved the spotlight!

  • @nj5520 what was the range like?

  • @trombone1994 i believe the highest note was a high G, only one of those but a lot of C, D, Eb rhythms if i remember right. then it dropped all the way down to on the staff i think. it wasn't too bad on baritone, but i couldn't imagine doing it on trombone.

  • @nj5520 awesome. we get it for real tommorow. ive sight read it before but i cant remember it. I don think that would be to bad on trombone. i play that too and the range pretty much the same.

  • @trombone1994 it's not the range, i play trombone as well and the range is much much easier to hit, that wont be bad at all, its just the tempo is really up there and a lot of slide movement.

  • @nj5520 ah i see.

  • The part at Admiral Benbow is so much fun to play

  • I'm so glad the publishers separated this from that trash Folk Song Suite.

  • This is one of the best classical sax parts in non-french music ever. such a simple song but so catchy and enterataining!

  • i play baritone sax and this song is soooo fricken hard!!!!

  • I play Alto Sax and we just got the music for this today. I can't wait to play it : )

  • @RNPro1 i got it in september, it's fun. my fav is portsmouth, idk why... i just do 8)

  • I play the e flat clarinet and i just love all in the beginning

  • I moved from Euph to French horn....

    Regret it sometimes.... :D

  • watch the intonation at the beginning, and make sure everyone is together

  • whats a euphonium?

and i play the 2nd violin part of this in the stringed version and portsmouth is my favorite

  • @omfg1996 Euphonium is like a tuba, but smaller and I think it has a different bore, but other than that, it's a tuba with a different timbre.

  • @forglegorktheork The timbre is more like a trombone. It primarily uses the same mouthpiece as a trombone.

  • i play euphonium and i love the solo!

  • i love "sea songs". Click here to see me appreciating a sea cruise. (2:49)

  • I have often wondered why it is that people who write the most spectacular, stiring and cheerful music known to man, always look so damn serious in their photos. It's almost as if there was a law stating id you smiled or even grinned you'd be taken to the Tower, there to have your head chopped from your body and probably fed to the crows.

  • Im a euphonium player, and i love this

    Porthmouth is a beauty

  • We are playing this in band, a tad slower. I play trumpet and love the admiral benbow part at 0:34

  • You just have to love the random high Bb played by the trumpets at the end of Admiral Benbow...

  • bassoon on this song. playing for a concert tomorrow. so excited to play it

  • @roller0coaster0gal

You play bassoon?! ME TOO!! How long have you played? Are you any good?

  • this song makes me want to be among british sailors!!:D lol i play the trumpet part of this in my wind ensemble

  • I always see Billy Bunter.......but I love this music so much!!!

  • i love listening to this

    especially portmouth

    well done williams

  • I am not crazy about Marching band music but this does seem a fine piece. I happened upon it while searching out Tallis Fantasia.

  • this is concert band music.

  • This isn't marching band music.......

  • I play euphonium and I loved playing the Ports Mouth part of the song :D

  • @Bucketheadisgod94 so did i

i loved every moment of this piece

i was tired after it, but it was well worth it

  • Very true friend!

  • @Bucketheadisgod94 YES! I LOVE THE EUPH PART! although the partial on the part where u has the melody right before the big chord "daaaa da" is kinda hard, the c to Eb...w/e lol

  • @123MrBubblez Yeah, that part was a little difficult. And I played this when I considered it a "hard" song to play, now I wish I could play this again now that Id know I could play it.. Oh well :P

  • @Bucketheadisgod94 me too! euphonium da bomb.

  • @Bucketheadisgod94 me too! im playing the solo this year for festival it is so much fun

  • @tinyweenie5566 Thats awesome man! Good luck! :)

  • @Bucketheadisgod94 I soo tlly agree...

I play violin on this piece, and i <3 the portsmouth part; its my favorite out of teh whole song!!!!!!

  • i remember first hearing this song back in 2002 at an honors band festival i played in. great song,

  • Love Admiral Benbow.

  • GOD I HATE ADMIRAL BENBOW

and the piece for strings is ehhhhh.

  • I love Admiral Benbow. It's the most amazing part.

  • We just played this song for our regional contest today. Our euphoniums aren't blessed with great talent, so an amazing trombone player played most of their faster sections. His slide was moving like crazy. Also, at Admiral Benbow, the trumpet section (which I'm a part of) couldn't play quietly enough, so I got that entire section as a solo :D. I'm currently a junior, by the way.

  • Whoa whoa, clarinets and flutes/piccolo, slow down in the beginning - major rushing there; euphonium and french horn could be stronger; trumpets are a bit loud. BUT overall I think they did a really nice job! This piece is really fun to play, especially the "Portsmouth" section. Yay for clarinets!

  • MOAR EUPH!

  • takes me back to when i played the saxophone

  • i love this song, my band has MEGA tempo troubles at the D.C....... but well done :)

  • i'm having trouble with this song. my director he thinks to highly of us and believes our 8th grade band can play this song full tempo. "but know i think hes right this is a lovely song"

  • its amazing but can ur trumpet section handle the high notes?

  • well, our trumpets are really motivated and most of us take private lessons, so majority of the time we can, but we mess them up occasionally, so we take them down an octave =]

  • haha i loved playing this song...i loved my trumpet solos in it too!

  • Great song. We're playing it for Community Band at my college...awesome piece.

  • i played this song for junior band!

    fun piece!

i still love it and i am now in senior band!

we beg out teacher to let us play it again!

    fun fun fun!

  • is it just me or is there some tempo issues? other than that i enjoyed it. Euphonium could be stronger.

  • good. the hard bit is the slow middle part 'portsmouth' as everyone knows the tune. well done

  • They need to let the Euphonium solo soar.

  • @Skipatronic I agree. It's such a beautiful and fun solo. Something they can really play out. I'm playing it in the CSUF Symphonic Wind Ensemble and I love it. =)

  • @Skipatronic I agree I play Euphonium and I wish we could play a song that let the baritones finally shine for once!!!

  • wow this band needs to get a french horn section, god, and good bottom clarinets

  • Wonderfully emotive: the Halle schoolchildren's concerts in the fifties used to include this one! Lovely memories.

  • Starring our poster on French Horn

  • i get to play this song for state band and it is amazing,i love it!!!
