  • ...and so a legend was born...love watching you with snapwave

  • how do you which technologies to choose from i mean there are like so many

  • @TheSultan79 That is one of the difficult choices in the game. Some just aren't that great or are techs you won't benefit a lot from, but sometimes the decision is just plain hard.

  • I love the intro; I knew after you introduced yourself and the let's play that this was going to be worth watching.

  • You mentioning playing the Darloks reminds me of Grimith's LGWI of Master of Orion that he also played as them, with (eventual) success. Wasn't on Impossible, but still was pretty entertaining to watch.

  • Witch one is better Master of orion 2 or 3?

  • Your voice is calming.

  • I love your corny LP style, "we're going to play it together". You're great.

  • Sol is Latin.

  • Thanks for this LP! I recently got this game, and while I had mastered the basics there were still a lot of more technical things I was unsure of, and it really helps to see the game get played and have you explain it!

  • You make me feel strange to listen to you.

  • Battlestar Galactica music = :'D

  • Is that the original music, or are you using a separate midi? I can get everything to work in Dosbox except for that.

  • @2029AD Keep watching and I'll tell you where I got the music from (and it is certainly not a MIDI). The games music is terrible so don't bother getting that working.

  • PLS give me links of musics you use!

  • i just got moo 1 and moo 2 which do you recommend?

  • wow, klackons are much cuter in MoO 1 ^^

  • And then there's an interesting tactic - basically when 2 races fight over one system, you can usually find a moment when one fleet wipes it with orbital bombardment - quickly send a colony ship over and colonize it. The fleet won't stop you - it flies away when the system is dead. There are usually some transports inbound, so you will have to either quickly transport your troops to fend them off or build missile bases. What's cool, those attacks won't trigger war but you'll still get a system.

  • You mention watching psilons take everything while you're being helpless as a darlok. That's the whole point :) You steal all tech from them, grab every hostile star there is not yet inhabited while manipulating all races into constant war.

  • Somehow I always tend to go with Darloks, get a huge spending on spying and not one soul thinks it's me stealing their secrets etc - I always blame someone else and it works - all races have better than neutral relations with me and are at war with each other.

  • Psilons have dicks for heads...

  • Regarding researching the most expensive tech in the available tech tree: You may have to take a chance when there are gaps in available tech. Common tech 'gaps': Lack of early Eco, Colony, Waste Reduction, Drive, and/or Fuel Cell can stunt expansion and growth. Even with this leap-frog approach, there are no guarantees. I once played a game in which I was stuck with Retro Engine for so long until I finally got to Impulse Drive. However, no Nuclear, no Sub-light, no Fusion in my tech tree!

  • You started making a comment about researching the most expensive tech in the tree at 7:30 , what is the advantage of doing this?

  • @QuantumKaon The technologies visible are generally the ones within 5 levels of your most advanced tech. You can leap ahead faster if you always take the most advanced tech. Sometimes there won't be any techs within 5 levels of your most advanced one at which point you need to research all of the lower ones before getting access to the next lowest tech available, but usually this isn't the case.

computerus? Is that like, where you insert your floppy dick? (lame nerd joke)

  • Hey GetDaved i love ur Let's play Master of Orion series I've played this game a long time ago ona windows 95 with DOS now im using windows 7 and surly it doesnt work. i dont know very much about Dos so can u help me make orion run on this pc? : X

  • @SoulBringuer I can only think of waiting until a new version of Dos Box comes out or running a Windows XP Virtual Machine on your Windows 7 box. Googling that should help out much more than me.

  • @SoulBringuer MS bought an app called Virtual PC a few years ago and it used to be available for free. That's one of the easier to use virtual machines if dosbox does not run on 7. What you still need is a dos environement like free dos to run dos apps.

Google for these terms, you should find enough information on the internets.

  • These lengthy strategy games tend to make poor choices for Let's Plays, but you make it work better than anyone I've ever seen. Very enjoyable, and I bow to your superior skills at Orion I and II (two of my favourite games, despite my poor playing strength with both). Thanks a bunch for putting these up!

By the way, "Earth" is Sol III. Not in the game, in real life; that's it's technical name, so to speak. The Sun is "Sol". No other star system can rightly be called "SOLar system" except ours.

  • @IgnatzKolisch Thank you, and I am actually aware of this fact regarding Sol, although we do refer to other star systems as Solar systems typically, and I imagine we would call it "Solar" power if we put a photovoltaic cell over there as well. Things get out of control if you get to particular on that one :p

  • "So that's where Earth is, we'll -deal- with that eventually..." Mwahahaha, having watched your GalCiv II LP, I'm fair sure what kind of dealing will be happening here.

  • I love spying in MoO. How can people not enjoy sabotaging Missile Bases before your fleet arrives to mop up the planet?

  • I usually send the colony ship out early but hold off on the scouts. I'm seriously cheap on ship production early on (to a fault).

  • wow cool, someone else playing this game. One of my favorite games! I think you should send your colony ship out early, and build more scouts! Leave them at habitable planets to chase away enemy colony ships. You can build 4 without incurring any maintenance, and 9 with only 1 BC maintenance.
