I know that on average, a british soldier will be better trained than an american soldier. this is because there are less british soldiers to train so they can afford to train them better, they need to be well trained otherwise the british army would not be very good; small and badly trained.

Ever heard of covering fire? The aim of that kind of shooting is to keep the enemies heads down, and stop them from shooting back. In this case, it was to stop them shooting the SEALs that were being extracted. In that situation, watch and shootis a bad strategy, if you are only shooting when you see them, chances are they will have got a few rounds off which could cause casualties.

Plus, it's not like the Americans need to conserve ammunition because they can't afford it, do they?
