thats because both Golion (original version of Lion Voltron) and Super Sentai series (original version of Power Rangers series) were made by the same movie company.

if you have never seen any Super Sentai, the original Japanese version of Power Rangers, look at my favorites (Sunao).

How much did the Power Rangers shamlessly rip this show off? Umm. A lot. lol. I never did understand why they would wait until shit hit the fan until they finally decided to form Voltron. Why didn't they just save the hassle and kick everyone's ass off the bat?

PR didn't rip off Voltron. PR took all that Super sentai had done and followed suit. Claiming it rips it off Voltron like claiming Cloverfield ripped off Godzilla. There's a theme here and Voltron used it just like Power Rangers did they just did it a decade earlier.

More like it rips off Gorgo as that's a baby lost in the city and trying to get the hell away from us and trashes the town in the process. Gorgo was a British attempt to make a Monster movie in the wake of Japanese movies like Godzilla. Godzilla was made using King Kong as a inspiration so you really want to go there Cloverfield ripped off Gorgo who ripped of Godzilla who ripped off King Kong and Land of the Lost. Full cycle.

@Citrakite Moral of the story: If you're going to rip something off, don't do a shitty job at it. Power Rangers gave a horrible take on a Voltron-perfected concept. Cloverfield did an unspeakable job at representing what Godzilla had been previously perfected. Once some lays down a royal flush, you'd probably should fold and cash your chips. Some producers don't seem to know when to leave well enough alone.

Voltron is based on this theme just like Sailor Moon (who's creator admitted she wanted to take a very male idea like Sentai and turn it by making them all girls.) All three are also Japanese. So PR ripped itself off by proxy and Voltron ripped it off from Sentai if you want to go pointing fingers. You want to be mad be mad at Dragonball: Evolution.

Super Sentai series, the original version of Power Rangers sereis came out in 1975. Golion, the original version of Lion Voltron came out in 1981. and both were made by the same japanese movie company named Toei. plus there were tons of this kind of robot anime in the 1970s. Combattler V (1976), Voltes V (1977), etc.

in case you don't know any Super Sentai, look at my favorites (SUNAO). in case you don't know Golion, search "golion promo 2008" or "uncensored voltron".
