• This is the best version!

  • brilliant, extraordinary great

  • AWESOME.....why there are 5 dislikes is absolutely beyond me :/

  • WAAAAWAAAAWAAAAWAAAAA WANDERRRRIIIIIIIIINNNNNGGGG

  • B E A U TIFUL!!!!!

  • i love this song and this performance is a fitting tribute to the man in black :)

  • Joaquin is wrong, he passed in 2003

  • I just love this, what a great tribute to the great man.

  • gotta luv The Edge for the falsetto !!

  • 4:33 - 4:55 gives me goosebumps

  • I saw an interview with Edge. It was during Numb. The interviewer asked why Edge didn't sing more lead. Edge replied something like, but what would Bono do then?

As a listener it's kind of sad that we don't here Edge sing more, I think.

  • @perfuzz couldn't agree with you more my friend. For whatever the reason I have never been able to work out why Edge as a vocalist has not featured more in the history of U2 other than a remarkable guitarist. Guess some egos are best left unchallenged for the sake of the music.

  • They want the kingdom but don't want God in it

If it's salvation that you want, why are you scared to dream of God

  • @nonSteel Bright Eyes, nice.

  • They want the kingdom but don't want God in it Such insight

wraps up human nature pretty good.

  • EDGE IS A BEAST

  • Edge doing his Orbison best there. Nice.

  • BRILLIANT!

  • great

  • Whoever cant hear bono's guitar must be fucking deaf

  • The falsetto of The Edge kicks ass.

  • Bono's lyrics have always been both extraordinary and so heartbreakingly ordinary. But this song, even by those standards, is a work of beauty. It's like he took the idea he began with with Exit, and just took completely away with it. And the choice of Johnny Cash, with his crackling voice singing those lyrics- genius. After the fact, hearing Bono's young-despite-my-age voice singing the song is beautiful.

  • hopefully they play this song live in miami in july...best band ever!

  • I love U2, big fan, but they need to settle down with the falsetto sometimes.

  • Amazing! Wonderful! Thanks to U2, Johny for THE SONG and you as well for posting this video ;)

  • I love love love all versions of this song, hearing it with Bono on vocals is differnet, but I like it. I'm glad he stuck in his register and just made it his a little, beautiful. Nobody is Johnny cash, as he said, but I'll take this tribute to him any day.

  • Great lyrics too. I think one of the reasons Joaquin talks about why Johnny Cash (and U2 as well!) seem(s) so convincing and authentic is that they knew that their own "demonic" sides and doubts are indivisible connected to their christian faith. Maybe this is one of the reasons why they never sound like religious nuts or fanatics and why so many extremely different people can relate to them. In the Video to "God's gonna cut you down" Bono sprays a graffiti saying "Sinners are the best saints".

  • Yeah, I went with nothing

Nothing but the thought of you

    I went wandering

  • I was wtching the program tribute to JC when they performed this, it was the first time i'd heard the tune, so I went out and listened to JC singing it, I found a brand new love for the legend. also I had no clue Edge could hit those high notes and maintain them so lovely. kudos to the poster.

  • whenever bono plays rhythm guitar, u can never hear it

  • LOL i dont know why but your comment is so funny X'D! :D

  • @masternate61 Yeah you can't hear Bono's guitar... hmm...? :D

  • I only recently discovered that this song was featured in one of my favorite movies and was always curious as to how it would sound with Bono as singer. Thanks for uploading! :)

  • Faraway, so close!?

  • wow, bono playing a gretsch.. 5*'s! not much of a player, but 5*'s! ;)

  • I laugh at people who come to watch a videos like this and can only focus on the performer's hat and presenter's fact misque

  • Does anyone know where I can download an audio copy of this song for my MP3? PULEEEZE?

  • We all seek Redemption !

  • amazing song, amazing performers.

  • incredible thank you

  • one of the best u2 song, they most play this song more time on the shows

  • This is incredible, The Edge can sing any backing to any song brilliantly... oh yeah, he can INVENT a new guitar sound for it too!! To anyone who wants to criticize, this is a song written for J Cash sung only once live (that I am aware of.. this particular time) in tribute to Johnny Cash for a song that JC recorded with U2 in probably '93, if you hate it...pick up a guitar, or a pen, or a drumstick, or start yelling into a microphone and do better... yeah, I thought so... shut the hell up!!!

  • Well said. The Edge sang back up great, it so suited Bono's lead vocal.

  • @jpanson well said, this is magic!

  • i love the instrumentaion in this version of this song...my ten year old daughter marissa can play the bass part...

  • You are a douchebag... have you ever even seen a custom les paul?? i thought not... suck it!!

  • hahaha uhh I was just joking, btw I own a les paul custom..

  • MrLesPaul. Ya know what, I apologize for what I wrote, I drank 20+ beers and was being kind of a dick... but from your response, you seem like a cool dude for not being a dick back... thanks for the understanding... and understanding about me not being able to find what you originally wrote (two bottles of wine tonight!) that I was seemingly so pissed at you about... I love this song.... and this version to me is amazing... sorry to be a dick.... YOU ARE COOL! sorry to be an asshole to you!

  • hahah yeah its ok. Alcohol makes you do crazy things =P

  • simply amazing(Edge backing)great song for a great man johnny cash.

  • umm Johnny Cash passed away in 2003.

People need to have their facts checked.

  • Hearing this (and Van Deimen's Land from Rattle and Hum, not to mention him on 2 Hearts Beat as One) makes me wonder how many more songs the Edge could have sung over the years. He's a fantastic backup singer. I'm glad he stuck with U2 all these years, but he clearly had the talent to make a name for himself as well after all these years on his own. I hope he sings more songs (solos) on future u2 records.

  • Tears when he said the extraordinary and ordinary U2...Its such a beautiful song. One of the best songs ever to put to paper.

    Bless you BONO

  • Yes but what has happened to Joaquin?

  • This song is great, and Edge's voice is beautiful. The studio version is good with Johnny Cash, but the backup vocals here really improve it...

  • I disagree, I think these backing vocals seem out of place and distracting. Other than that this version is great too.

  • indeed, it seems kinda out of place. Now the Fly - there's an Edge vocal, in fact i'm gonna listen to it right now...

  • I'm not the biggest Bono fan (I've got nothing against the rest of U2) but everybody on the count of one, two, three

    "Wa wa wa wa wandering..."

    A great performance!

  • Ese es mi Edge! U2 4ever!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

  • can anyone help me find the download for this song?

  • nope

  • so beautiful

  • I'm a hardcore Atheist, but this song gets to me, I think maybe the search for "God" is something a lot bigger than God, and this song is so wonderful. It's not really about the search for god, It's about the search that can never be finished, maybe because it the goal doesn't exist, but that doesn't at all diminish the power and beauty of the journey.

  • You should see some of my friends on my page, lots of atheist video's to look at. We like to annoy Glenn Rebb.

  • You don't sound like a "hardcore Atheist"...you just sound confused....

  • yea thats what all atheists are, on their death beds who or what do you think theyll look for...

one day they will look back at their livees and see how they wasted their lives...

  • Well, atheists won't look back for anything on their deathbeds. But if they do I guess they'll think their "liveeees" will have seemed quite lovely.

  • Oh as if! It's the religious people that will, on their deathbeds, realized they wasted their "livees". And ya wanna know why?? Cause they were so very busy wasting their one wild and previous life on earth by not "sinning", trying to be perfect, and generally having no fun whatsoever. They just wasted their lives waiting to go to heaven, and then, on their deathbed they realize there is no heaven and they wasted their only life.

  • i dont know about living to go to heaven, but i live for Jesus Christ, becuase he died for me i live for Him

  • You poor poor thing, i pity you sooo much..

  • bellissima

  • I'm surprised after all of these years how good the Edge's voice is, I wish he sang more songs for U2, as apposed to just backup vocals

  • anybody have a copy of this tribute show. I had it on dvr but the dvr broke.

  • Nunca habrá quien se les compare.

  • Probably one of the best performance I've ever seen. Strictly go on this way, old bastards!

  • Fantastic..

  • any other band (anyone)......years behind U2

  • U2, God bless you and your souls. Your music and your mission. God bless Cash. See you in heaven where we can sing to our father together, maybe earlier :)

  • no need to put any 'spin' on their version of this song , bono wrote it for j.cash, they played he sang it, another of their great songs, with a collabarator, he is now gone and bono took over, and fuck what a great job he has done in place of the jail house rocker, all round brilliant.

  • next live tour they should perform this with Electrical storm!!!! excellent lyric's in the Wanderer good tempo

  • La mejor banda en vivo!!! si señor!!!

  • The most beautiful lyrics written by Bono.

  • i was at this concert awesome

  • At the end I thought I was watching Zoo TV again, I LOVE THE EDGE

  • Woah.. this song is amazing, look at the edge at the end. He is good!

  • U2 can make anything sound fucking cool..they could make celine dion sound like a fuckin bad ass if they wanted thats how powerful they are

    U2=Music at its best

  • Wow! Bono is proving himself not only to be a great talent, but a great man! This is an awesome tribute to J.Cash, may his soul rest with Love/God! :c)

  • Excellent tribute to a great man by a man who will help keep the JC spirit alive in the hearts of people.

  • wow speechless

  • i am so so sorry! my son got on when i left the computer and made that remark! i love u2 and johnny cash so very much! especially this song! i just scolded him about it. once again, so sorry!

  • Kids who'd have em?! My kids have no taste in music either! All that pop crap is what they like.

  • U2 are the best band in the world, I don't much like country music but I did like Johnny Cash.

  • guess this was done in LA & it almost made it into the concert that nite too!!! 2005

  • Whats Wrong with People! U2 Wrote this for Johnny Cash! so i reckon he is allowed Artistic license to change one Damn Lyric! plus U2 preformed the original song with Johnny Cash i love both versions but the Edge does add somthing to the song with his vocals and i love it! love Bono as lead in this song its fantastic!

  • Whats Wrong with people!!! U2 wrote this song in the first Place get facts right before you post stuff!!! they wrote it for Johnny Cash and preformed the original with Him!!! i think both versions are wonderful and the edge adds somthing to this song i love both versions and bono is allowed artistic lisense to change one damn lyric! i actually love the edges voice on this!

  • dumb agly remark!

  • Johnny Cash....the ONLY country I'd listen to, for obvious reasons and need not be explained.

They did a great job with the song.

    Thanks Johnny RIP

    Thanks U2

  • i gave Johnny cash's version on Zooropa 4 stars

This one i give 3 stars but the new instrumentals are good

  • some songs are good but still this song misses johnnys soul and touch this guy doesent have a vocal for this song

  • I hope you just mean that this "SONG" is nothing without him.

  • Perhaps I don't understand any of these tributes where you don't hear the original artist--for whom the tribute belongs--but other artists singing his songs. Of them all, this is the strangest. Cash's voice makes this song--he is the Wanderer looking for some sort of redemption. I saw the entire show, and I did enjoy the performances--but I would have enjoyed much better a live performance supporting Johnny's voice. For the record U2 is my favorite band--but not as lead on this song.

  • Great voice..

  • Johnny Cash passed away in 2003 not 2004..

  • This is amazing!! First time live ever !!!

  • Johnny Cash sang this song beautifuly...nobody could sing it better. It suited his voice perfectly. JOhnny's musical choices got better as he grew older. I'm glad he did this with U2.

  • Love this song I sure wish they would record it just like this. Awesome makes me cry!!! I like their version better than Johnny's and I loved Johnny!

  • i love this song so much

  • i love the zooropa version, but i like this one because it's more up-tempo. i wish they would release it as a B-side...

  • oh yeah, and a forgot joaquin to boot! could it get any better?! ;-)

  • bono's voice is amazing in this "cover" (though we all know it's not a cover at all). i wish they would've performed this on vertigo. But if they hadn't done it in my city, then i would've been boiling jealous, and i'm sure i'm not the only one who feels that way!

brilliant! thank you!

  • incredible

  • love this tune

  • "With a Bible and gun" changed by politically correct Bono to "With a Bible and the sun". What a schmuck globalist mouthpiece and a dishonor to Johnny.

  • What the hell are you talking about? That's "With a Bible and a son". And Bono wrote the lyrics in the first place.

  • I would guess that it is as you say 'son' and is a religious reference.

  • actually he is right, i just played the original and it is gun....

  • Maybe Bono was "wandering" in England. Seriously though I think it makes more sense with the "American" version. The Bible to protect one spiritually, the gun to protect against physical enemies. Otherwise, isnt "The Son" already in the Bible? Just my 2c.

  • politically correct? what shite are you talking? this is a band that stil plays sunday bloody sunday, a song about the troubles in ireland. and that is hardly the most politically correct song ever. and another thing, johnny cash is not a god. you seem to have put him up on a pedestal. he was no saint. he made great tunes, but he wasnt a saint.

  • he has a point man, Sunday Bloody Sunday was if you look at it, is a really politically correct song. I think Bono is a great performer but he's never going to come out and talk about anything else than Africa.

  • do you really think Bono is globalist?

  • do you know what globalist means? lol.

    globalist-a definition: --noun

the attitude or policy of placing the interests of the entire world above those of individual nations.

so is being a globalist a bad thing? the way you said it, it seems as though it is. is it not selfish of the western countries namely america and britain to keep taking money of africa?

  • he is actually trying to end the debt of africa, which has unfairly been taken adavntage of by western countries. from the outside looking in, it may seem that he is an annoying do-gooder. but if he get the debt cancelled these undeveloped african countries can finally start to progress. whats wrong with that? at least he is doing something, hes making us aware of it. why does it always get criticised for this?

  • Dont' be an ass, the lyrics were composed by Bono, He wrote that line and can change it, whenever he wants. I doubt your affirmation, you could be deaf or something.

  • amazing song, the best band of all time saluting the greatest Solo artist ever. Spectactular.

  • they should have put this in the selist during the vertigo tour of 2005!! excellent addition for an encore section oh'yeah

  • Great song

  • es genial, aunque me gusta más cantanda por la grave voz de mister Cash...pero es una gran canción de u2 poco reconocida

  • think this one & ever only live performance of this song that has ever been seen!!

  • cojonudo

  • just great

  • Magnifico

    Genial

  • outstanding

  • amen grizzlyred that track is amazin! and kellykinsel fupp up u dont no ur dick frm ur elbow

  • Great performance

  • I'm a big u2 fan but there is no excuse for bono's fake guitar or edges vocals, whats that all about? don't remember that on the original, great fuckin song though

  • Edge's singing was good, bro. Get a life

  • kellykinsel. too bad you can't write sensible words anymore. show me an artist around today that can write a song like sometimes you can't make it on your own

  • Outstanding.

  • Great fake guitar playing Bono! He is the best at pretending like he can play the guitar. Too bad he can't write a good song anymore

  • Bono's fans like seeing him hold his "Goal is Soul" quitar...he doesn't have to play it! As far as, he's writing ability...you have to have heart, and know Bono to understand his lyrics! You know if you don't anything nice to say...keep it to yourself.

  • So yeah Kelly wheres the stuff you written lately? This is youtube video, please share with us. Uh, I don't recall seeing you play anything lately so post that too. Last 2 U2 albums won numerous grammys and many of those were written by Bono along with Edge. You must obviously be a Timberlake/Brittney Spears kinda fan and too too young to know great art.

  • You are so superficial. You wouldn't know a good song if it came up and smacked you in the face. Your day will come when you will go out wandering. It comes to us all. One day you will realize that.

  • wow that's got to be the highest voice the edge has.

  • hehe know.. It's so amazing high..

  • Yes it is.

  • isn't that guy the dude who played cash in walk the line?

    (intro dude)

  • bono wrote this song and gave this song as gift to johny cash, The zooropa album. I like how Johnny cash sings it like a singing as a preacher giving a sermon

    very cool..

  • R.I.P. Johnny

  • bono does it good, Cash was/is so much better.

  • Incredible song, especially with Cash singing.
