  • did you forget to paint gloss black base for the metalizers... ?

  • Just wondering, is Tamiya really toxic? i smelt it once and it made me kinda high, so i didnt know if i should use it or not, and also is there anything i can put on the paint to keep it from rubbing off? does the pledge keep the paint on really good? i got no idea honestly..

  • make a video how to do distributer wire plz

  • i have a question do you have to use gloss black or can you use any colour before you put the chrome on?????????

  • @mds13696 With alclad, it needs to be Gloss Black Enamel.

    HTH

  • umm....that's the gearbox you see in the computer. the engine block doesnt have the same color because its a different material. the manual has the correct color.

  • Wow... you've just answered every single question I've ever had about painting in one video. Thank you so much. Except...

Do you have any experience mixing acrylics with future instead of food coloring?

  • @crabman484 hi, yes, should be fine.

  • @crabman484 SHoudl be fine as long as the colours are transparent

  • when you are applying the blue and yellow, are you still using the same pressure as you used for the alclads?

  • Yes :-)

  • Peter.

What are the differences you found between Pledge and Future. I use Pledge at the moment and would love to know what I am missing out on, lol

    Thanks

    -Spencer

  • @bttfspencer Hi Spencer,

I've compared the two, I've found them very different indeed. Nothing I've seen on the Australian market gives the finish that Future gives

  • wow man, your results are amazing. i have built a few models now (racing cars) but have always brush painted the engine parts.

Do you use the airbrush for as mush as possible (obviously you couldnt use it for tiny details)

What kind of air brush do you use?

As racing cars more often than not have a lot of decals on the body do you reccomend applying lacquer before or after the decals go on.

Also do you always spray on the tamiya sprays with your own air brush?

    sorry lots of questions!

  • @shazmeister2005

    Hi Shaz,

I use an airbrush for all parts, even the small ones. I have several airbrushes. I have a Harder & Steenbeck Infinity, a DeVilbiss, but my favourite and mostly used airbrush is an Iwata.

  • thanks man..i try your step and my skyline r34 look perfect with my own design and detail of the hks hi power exhaust and piping. you are the best model builder. and i love austrailian. i purchased this kit since 2006 in melbourne, austrailia.

  • @Tommaxboost310

    Thanks Tommax

  • just finish build my supra tamiya 24123. and just detail all the twin turbo set like sp twin turbo set or hks gt2835 kit with greddy front mount intercooler. now is set and primer. all i need is to get a tamiya ts black paint and clear coat it. should i clear coat or leave it black. because is already gloss. will it damage the paint???

  • Hi Tommax, gloss is a personal preference. You can get some really nice results by just waxing and polishing the base coat. Be careful with Tamiya's TS clear. I've read mixed results, sometimes it can damage the paint underneath. Best trick is to apply it gradually in mist coats to build the layers. Then follow up with some wet coats. Love to see the results of your supra. Feel free to post it on escale, would love to see it.

  • oh yes..can you please PM me with your email so i can show you? i remember i did that before using the clear coat from tamiya..and yes, it did damage the paint off on my hemi gtx. so is it ok to use the automobile clear coat like at any auto parts and gloss???

  • Dryzoneau is right on target. Alclad II goes on very well from 12 to 15 psi. Distance to subject from 1" to 1 1/2" . Additional tip: if you have a dual action airbrush that comes with fine, medium, and large sized needle and aircap combinations....go with the fine Immediately after applying Future, make sure to flush out your airbrush as soon as you finish as Future will gum up the inside after a number of minutes. I flush out with a mix of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol.

  • Hi;

You said you have to use Alclad in low psi. Which psi did you use?

    Regards

    Burak

  • Hello Burak, I spray between 12-15 PSI

  • Hi there

could you tell me where can i buy the Alcad in Australia?

  • Where in Aus are you papergun?

  • Hello zeta, feel free to contact me offline in spanish, I can speak a little spanish.

But to answer your question here for others as well, yes, I use food colouring and future as an alternative to clear paints. This is the get the heat stained effects on metal. I spray a clear paint called "smoke" to blend the effect together and make it less bright.

  • sorry, i dont undertand you, use food color and future??and later paint with smoke?? sorry for my bad english, i speak spanish

  • seriously great peice of work.

  • Great job Peter, love your videos. Future Floor Polish is the swiss army knife for us modelers ^_^

  • The you made the engine and exhaust look so realistic its AWESOME!

    Very nice WIP vid

  • Excellent !!

I've never seen anyone demonstrating how to use food colouring on a model; really useful.

Could you please tell us if you sealed the surface of the exhaust after applying Alclad...if you did, what did

    you use ??

I personally prefer to use other products to replicate chrome with even better results than Alclad II.

Let me know if you're interested.

That 8 cylinder engine looks fantastic.

Cheers Peter, and best wishes for '09

  • Thanks zealandnew and best wished to you too.

I didn't seal the surface, i find that alclad is quite durable and doesn't normally need sealing.

I'd definitely be interested in knowing other alternatives, it's great to try different techniques. thanks again

  • Awesome job! I wish you could have shown some wiring but overall very good!

  • Thanks minihorse. I did contemplate that, but as the plug wires on this one are quite short I thought I'd leave it for the next model. Maybe a complete feature on plumbing and wiring a model car?

  • wow...awesome...

    5/5 ^_^

  • thank you sadalsuud93
