This is constructive criticism, I don't understand why you got rid of the original version of the Journey into Imagination. I'm sure you had your reasons but, the original attraction was one of the most original, and creative rides I have ever seen in my life. 1. Kodak and WDW are cheap bastards.
2. The ride was getting costly to maintain.
3. The ride never actually worked properly, the cars never synched perfectly, some of the speed ramps never worked, etc. (but by 1998 they could have probably fixed it instead of taking an axe to it)).
Its so weird the ride went from colorful and beautiful like a dream to dark musty, and eerie, like it died those dark corridors seem so vacant. its like making the small world a lecture on international relations or turning splash mountain into a study of pre civil war south. this is better than the last one but only by a tiny little bit.
Isnt the current que area and the first part of the ride where the Flight to Imgination Turntable and Revloving Set was located in the orginal version ?

Did Kodak really leave? Wow...wow....wow... I was Trespassed[AND ARRESTED] at Walt Disney World 4-11-10... i used to spend the entire day of this ride..just thinking/problem solving/watching people's reactions, etc... did Kodak really leave? LOL, i prayed that any company that was in my portifolio, and was a sponsor at WDW, would exit...because it's it's like a death annuity. Or, LOL, did i actually write to Kodak besides just praying?
@JulieSomeone I was there in November and the Kodak stuff was gone. A cast member told me Kodak left, and I think it's a good thing. Without a sponsor, Disney has complete control over the ride, but I'm not sure yet if another sponsor is coming. Space Mountain in Disney World has no more sponsor, and look how terrific it is now! It's a whole different universe when I enter. Go to my channel and there are recent videos of it under uploads, including the line, ride, exit, and Peoplemover view.
Hopefully now that Captain EO is back the original version or something to the original version will return because it doesnt make sense to have an Imagination Institute tour when there is no Imagination Institute Inventor of the Year Award Presenstation anymore.
I now feel so bad for recommending this ride to a friend (and understand why her family hated it- and thought I was nuts for liking this). When I pushed her to try this, I had the original ride in mind -I had no idea they'd changed it. I used to love Figment, but they've made him so annoying with the ride update.
This ride may seriously SERIOUSLY lack to the original, and Figment may be a spoiled brat in this one, we need to give this one a chance knowing that the actor who plays the purple critter is a veteran Muppet actor, Dave Goelz. And yes, they shortened the track, and yes, I prefer the original to this one, but the end is reminiscent to the original. When are they gonna open up the second floor again???

This ride is sooo awesome! I like the songs. Imagination! When I was 5 my favorite video game was Spryo and when my family would take me on this ride I would be like "Lets go on the Spyro ride!!!! Kill Ripto!!!!"
I've never seen this attraction, but I just saw a video of the original attraction. Now that I've seen this, I can't believe what they've done with it!
I am boycotting until the old ride or something as good as the old version with Dream Finder comes back. Right now I play with the fountains and dont even think about setting foot into the building.

WAIT A SECOND!!!! I just realized something! The old upstairs imageworks, even though it is now used for something else, I hear that much of the old equipment is still there. THAT EQUIPMENT IS THE LAST SURVIVING PIECE AND LEGACY OF THE ORIGINAL EPCOT!!!!!!!!!!!! (1982)

Sadly, people have to agree with that... it was so beautiful the original one, the second one one sucked, the one now is okay... just okay, it is very unpopluar, a 0 minute wait... it probably turns to five minutes when people are let out of Honey, I Shrunk the Audience (true). They said they would do something to it in 2011 or 2012 because of the Magic Kingdom's 40th anniversery or 2012 because of Epcot's 30th anniversery... hopefully 2011 though, give me any news if you have anything about it!
GNRfan97, thanks so much for telling this information, it is not the most popular ride, but it is my second favorite ride at disney... they have changed some features this year,(2009) as of june,27-may,7(when i went) and they have some beautiful features toward the end. i am so excited to hear the changing news. this ride is on its 3rd change *sighs* and going to its 4th with ur info. it gets worse than better to some people but it is always great to me. i'm looking forward to this improvment!!!

People at Disney don't get it! What the hell this guy is doing there? People go to Epcot to dream and to see characters and not actors such as this guy. Same thing happens with Ellen at the Universe of Energy. Epcot nowadays is nothing but a camp and poor verion of the glorious theme park of the 80's. I worked in a hospital in the medical records department which was adjacent to the laboratory, in the basement, which looked a lot like that hallway. There was even some orange as the place was built in the 70s. Now, do I want to take a trip to Orlando to go to someplace that looks like work? disney needs to do much better.
P.S. Professor Nigel Channing talks down to people like doctors and nurses do.

Because the butterfly is symmetrical, there is a two-sided mirror with half of a butterfly on one side, and nothing on the other. When you pass to the other side of the mirror, the butterfly seems to disappear!
Figment i found out last summer cause i asked is exclusively with Kodak and not really Epcot and why you can't find him anywhere else. But i love figment too. Everytime i come to Orlando i have to see my Figment and get alot of figment stuffed animals
Whaaaaat? Fig's with Kodak?! I doubt Disney'd sell ANY of their characters. Remember, too, Fig came BEFORE they involved Kodak, if memory serves correctly.
I asked a worker about getting fig outside of Epcot and she said it is hard to do cause of it being under Kodak . I don't remember when kodak came into play.
I believe Figment and Dreamfinder were an original part of Epcot and thus, did not have a movie that went with the ride. Michael Eisner wanted every ride to be associated with a movie, so as to increase sales of the movies. This may have been one reason for the first rehab without Figment. Eric Idle was in an unsuccessful Disney movie. See what happens when people with MBAs make creative decisions? They have NO imagination!
He was more prominent and popular through the 80s. It was when the contracts with sponsors of the attraction expired, and required the attraction to change entirely thereafter.
It's a lame attraction now.

I don't know Eric Idle, but if you never saw the first version of this dark ride it would be OK. Actually, it's pretty good if it were a Kennywood/Hersheypark/Cedar Point ride but kind of a disappointment for Disney. I heard this was just shut down. If I was writing for this ride, I don't think I would have Figment do a skunk smell. At least they do have Figment, would be a bore without him. I just don't believe they destroyed the mural and the rest of the architecture to make this.
The previous version had a beautiful mural at the queuing area, now all they have is black ceiling panels, purple and orange walls, and ringing phones. I can go to the hospital where I work to see that. I'm glad to see it here it saved a trip to WDW. Figment is the only entertaining character there. I have to know: Do they actually release a skunk scent in the smell scene? Talk about scaring the kids and everyone else away!
I love this video. I always got to Epcot to see Figment. Figment is my favorite ride and character of all the theme parks. He is a cute and love able purple little dragon. I love dragons anyways but love him the most. I him last summer and you are right there is no hills on the ride. My mom took picture on the same ride back in 85. She didn't get into trouble.

100% FALSE. Disney allows the video taping of most all of their rides. They say no only only a few. There are signs at each ride that say if you cannot plus the pre ride instructions would say no too. Also, Disney makes the distinction between no flash photography (means picture taking is alright but just no flashes) and no photography at all. - - RU

I agree with ru42. Yes, it does have a little hill, but they go real slow, on it. Trust me, if it was a mini coaster, then Disney would not recomend it for all ages.
When I first came here, I didn't know what this shows and at the end it is feally fun. Figment is so cute, funny and looks like a dragon. On the smell lab he spray us with air and he really scared us when he exploded. But we all have fun with Imaginations.

I have been to disney land and it was so much fun and i would love to go there agin and i loved going on that ride at epcot as well.

People at Disney don't get it! What the hell this guy is doing there? People go to Epcot to dream and to see characters and not actors such as this guy. Same thing happens with Ellen at the Universe of Energy. Epcot nowadays is nothing but a camp and poor verion of the glorious theme park of the 80's. Pls bring back the original and glorious attractions.

This ride used to be so much better before they renovated it. I don't like what they did to it. Bring back the original Journey Into Imagination that we enjoyed throughout the 80s and 90s, that was the best.

I worked in a hospital in the medical records department which was adjacent to the laboratory, in the basement, which looked a lot like that hallway. There was even some orange as the place was built in the 70s. Now, do I want to take a trip to Orlando to go to someplace that looks like work? disney needs to do much better.
P.S. Professor Nigel Channing talks down to people like doctors and nurses do.

I never noticed so many of those things on the ride before! Cool! THAT'S how WDW gets return customers! XD Man...I remember I was on here and forcing myself to have an open mind...I couldn't help blocking some things, tho. Had fun, tho. Fig sounds different from what I remember...

Because the butterfly is symmetrical, there is a two-sided mirror with half of a butterfly on one side, and nothing on the other. When you pass to the other side of the mirror, the butterfly seems to disappear!

Figment i found out last summer cause i asked is exclusively with Kodak and not really Epcot and why you can't find him anywhere else. But i love figment too. Everytime i come to Orlando i have to see my Figment and get alot of figment stuffed animals

Whaaaaat? Fig's with Kodak?! I doubt Disney'd sell ANY of their characters. Remember, too, Fig came BEFORE they involved Kodak, if memory serves correctly.

I asked a worker about getting fig outside of Epcot and she said it is hard to do cause of it being under Kodak . I don't remember when kodak came into play.

Uh, Kodak has been the Pavillion's sponsor since the beginning (1982) and legally, Figment and Dremfinder are owned by Kodak.

Figment must be exclusive to Epcot Center! I have never seen or heard about him anywhere else but there!

I believe Figment and Dreamfinder were an original part of Epcot and thus, did not have a movie that went with the ride. Michael Eisner wanted every ride to be associated with a movie, so as to increase sales of the movies. This may have been one reason for the first rehab without Figment. Eric Idle was in an unsuccessful Disney movie. See what happens when people with MBAs make creative decisions? They have NO imagination!

He was more prominent and popular through the 80s. It was when the contracts with sponsors of the attraction expired, and required the attraction to change entirely thereafter.
It's a lame attraction now.

I don't know Eric Idle, but if you never saw the first version of this dark ride it would be OK. Actually, it's pretty good if it were a Kennywood/Hersheypark/Cedar Point ride but kind of a disappointment for Disney. I heard this was just shut down. If I was writing for this ride, I don't think I would have Figment do a skunk smell. At least they do have Figment, would be a bore without him. I just don't believe they destroyed the mural and the rest of the architecture to make this.

The previous version had a beautiful mural at the queuing area, now all they have is black ceiling panels, purple and orange walls, and ringing phones. I can go to the hospital where I work to see that. I'm glad to see it here it saved a trip to WDW. Figment is the only entertaining character there. I have to know: Do they actually release a skunk scent in the smell scene? Talk about scaring the kids and everyone else away!

I love this video. I always got to Epcot to see Figment. Figment is my favorite ride and character of all the theme parks. He is a cute and love able purple little dragon. I love dragons anyways but love him the most. I him last summer and you are right there is no hills on the ride. My mom took picture on the same ride back in 85. She didn't get into trouble.

The reason I said " Record the ride without getting caught" it's because my mother told me that anyone tape record any type of rides will get you into trouble. Is that true or fasle?

100% FALSE. Disney allows the video taping of most all of their rides. They say no only only a few. There are signs at each ride that say if you cannot plus the pre ride instructions would say no too. Also, Disney makes the distinction between no flash photography (means picture taking is alright but just no flashes) and no photography at all. - - RU

What do you mean without getting caught? There is nothing wrong with recording most Disney rides including this one. I broke no news, I never do. If Disney says 'no taping' then I don't tape. It is that simple. There are no rules against taping this ride. - _ RU

I agree with ru42. Yes, it does have a little hill, but they go real slow, on it. Trust me, if it was a mini coaster, then Disney would not recomend it for all ages.

When I first came here, I didn't know what this shows and at the end it is feally fun. Figment is so cute, funny and looks like a dragon. On the smell lab he spray us with air and he really scared us when he exploded. But we all have fun with Imaginations.
