  • People don't have the same class anymore. You can believe that she finished signing autographs for those soldiers. She also endowed a hospital in her adopted hometown with millions for a cancer center before she died. She was a great entertainer and a great human being.

  • @Jeano1965 I think it's quite a stretch to say that people don't have the same class anymore, especially when you consider the serious ills that existed within American society at the time. People look at these videos and like to romanticize the time period and its people, when life was very far from ideal for a large segment of the American population at that time. However, this type of class and style is certainly no longer popular, although that doesn't mean that it no longer exists.

  • @BritneyK89 I'm sorry, I must strongly disagree. For those of us old enough to remember what music was, what is being played today is a crude, barbaric mish mash of over-amplified guitars and coarse street language served up by outrageous siliconed bimbos in low-cut outfits. It is nothing more than a lowbred, obscene parody of music. I was sitting with some young guys at work listening to some of this crap the other day and when it ended I said "Hum the melody." They couldn't. There was none.

  • @warwolfii You're absolutely right. What passes for music nowadays is little more than noise pollution.

  • wow!,......now look at what we call talent, beibher, Gaga, lil wayne? what the hell happened?

  • omg where did you ever find this video... amazing. I loved her as Blanch Bickerson along side Don Ameche... you never get comedy or singing music like this now days.

  • Is the guy on the right of the accompaniment group the actor who later played Sergeant Vince Carter in the Gomer Pyle television series?

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill: Sorry about your loss. God be with you and your father. He's in all of our hearts. Anyway this song rocks! Also, God be with your father too, OutfieldAngel3669

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill: Sorry about your loss. God be with you and your father. He's in all of our hearts. Anyway this song rocks!

  • @sarcip7x this is the movie Glenn Miller Story with Jimmy Stewart

  • @sarcip7x rent the movie

  • God this is so fantastic!

  • Absolutely beautiful

  • WOW..Loved this, Thankyou for posting !

  • Shooting this off the TV screen gives it a feel and look of a home movie. Great scene and song from one of my favorite films. I had the pleasure of meeting Miss June Allyson (who played Miller's / Stewart's wife) in the late 1970's. She was very gracious and warm and she signed an original "Glenn Miller Story" movie poster for me.

  • Francis Langford one of the great singers ! Thanks for posting.

  • my dad used to dance to Glenn Miller tunes back in Canada. at the time he was trying to date my aunt Betty Miller.he later marry my aunt sis, my Mom Charlotte Miller.my dad serve with Canadian army during WW2, later on my dad became part time DJ, he had all Glenn Miller tunes, so he got me to listen to them as well

  • God she really nails this one out of the park.

  • My dad, Raymond Bostedt (1924-1998) served this glorious county in the late '40's at Los Alamos NM. My mom, Laureen Bostedt (1927-2010) found the right man at the right time and I'm ONE LUCKY guy because of it!!!!

I grew up with Glenn Miller always playing in the background!

  • Such grace, such talent and beauty! She's old enough to be my grandmother however if she's a hottie! We have lost such class in our country sad to say..but we'll evenutaly get it back! We're strong with good hearts and faith!

  • my gradfather love this .....miss ya

  • very bad tonation

  • Love this music, thanks for posting.

  • thanks to all who have served our great country i did not get to but my papa did i now have a son who is serving in afgan so to all god bless and my he keep you save in all that you do to protect our lands

  • My dad's uncle was with Patton's group & saw Langford & Miller at a USO show just before they took Berlin. He said other than thinking about wife and familiy, the Demorcratic Spirit that was pushed during the USO shows kept him focused on what was important...Living life free of any oppresivive governmental rule...no matter what country!

  • Warren E. Brown

    1922-2009

    Combat Engineer

    European Theater

    Rhineland Campaign

    '42-'45

Glenn Miller got him through all the blood and muck.

  • @albanyqb

We'll be forever grateful for his service.

  • @albanyqb Another member of the greatest generation that saved the free world.

  • This was filmed inside Hangar #2 at Lowry Air Force base in Denver. The St. Louis Blues March scene was filmed just outside. The military left the base 15 years ago, and it's been redeveloped into a wonderful housing and retail area. Several Lowry buidlings remain, including the hangar, which is now the Wings Over The Rockies Air and Space Museum. It's a wonderful place and I never go there without feeling the ghosts of Glenn Miller, Jimmy Stewart, Frances Langford and many others.

  • @colodude3

are you kidding me, 'The Glenn Miller Movie" --- this part was filmed at Lowry AFB---

I drive around this base for almost ten years on my way to - from work at the old Frontier Airlines ( before 1986 ), I never knew that MS Frances Langford and Jimmy Stewart did this movie there.....

  • Miller's widow insisted that the college scenes be filmed in Boulder, rather than UCLA. So they scouted Denver locations. There's a scene at CU. One of the ballrooms is the Trocadero at old Elitch Gardens. The English country house was in the Montclair neighborhood of Denver. The military marching was also at Lowry. There's a scene of Glenn making a phone call from a booth across from the Denver Mint on Colfax. The Miller Archive is at CU-Boulder, including his all his gold records.

  • frances langford should have been way more famous

  • @thebrujaisbackagain I'm working on it!

  • There are a lot of different recordings of Chattanooga with different singers with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Several are with the Modernairres. I'm still trying to get all of them for my collection.

  • Frances Langford...The Dixie Pixie...What a great voice...What a great person! That smile just melts your heart. She made over 30 movies, most of them starring roles. Warmer has just released "The Bamboo Blond" in a great restored version. Cute story, Great Singing!

  • @CarloQuinto

well how long does it take to spell check your second book?

  • @1905compton It isn't so much the spelling, the computer does that or it should, it;s the punctuation. The comma's in particular, like ,"---I seem to have developed a habit of leaving out the comma before an end quote. Lots of them. This whole project is dedicated to Frances Langford and I want it to be as perfect and mistake free as possible. Just as she was. The correction process is very tedious but worth it.

  • @CarloQuinto

Sir, it is now 2011, how many more years before you have all the comma's in place?

    The world wonders?

    Bob

  • @1905compton 'LOST IN THE SPELL' is now in the printing process. Should only be a couple of weeks at most. A few days at best. I do so thank you for your interest!

  • Frances will always be Blanche Bickerson to me

  • Stint on cigs and beer, save on whatever - go and buy that movie. Best money ever spent, trust me.

  • I love to watch these videos where a woman can sing and you admire the voice "thats entertainment" not like today where if she doesn't appear half naked and dancing erotically its not a show. I like a singer who can sing beautifully without the help of technology and you admire the voice. Clear and beautiful.

  • @lali516 Well said!

  • What a beautiful voice. Entertainers don't have the star quality like this any more. If they do, we don't see enough of it.

  • you said it

  • @ElderPinkerton not just that, everyone back then(men and women) dressed with a lot more style, scruffyness was a huge sin. Look at how people carry themselves nowadays - scruffy, can't be bothered. We certainly can learn a lot from past generations

  • @ElderPinkerton they are out there but they get no recognition. i sing in swing even have a whole book of jazz songs ive written myself, but its not what people seem to want to listen too. i hate the times we live in today.

  • @JennelleBelle This is so true! I hate when people say that people today don't have talent and bring up people such as Beiber and Lady Gaga. Yes, they're extremely popular, but that doesn't mean that that's the only type of music that people make. Beiber and Gaga are not representative of the state of music today. There is plenty of amazing music out there. The people with the real talent just find it hard to compete in a music industry that has become so commercialized and superficial.

  • American schoolboys too young to drive a car flew bombers over Germany to free us Krauts - and we illegally listened to F. Langford on "enemy radio". no matter the politics, no matter my taking my hat off to brave soldiers - that music, that voice...immortal.

  • @Pitfossil

hahahahahahaha bombers don't "free" anyone. They blow people to smithereens and burn them alive. Learn about the firebombing of dresden you twit.

  • @tallswede80 if they hadnt bombed us flat, not only Germany but the whole of Europe would be under Nazi rule nowadays...and I can´t imagine a true Viking being happy with that. Skal. (And I know I misspelled that)

  • @Pitfossil

What do you mean bombed "us"? I doubt you had anything to do with it, and you can't speak for the people who died if you are alive, jackass. And you can't prove what would have happened under any circumstances.

As it was, eastern europe fell to communist rule, which was the worst possible outcome for the people living there. Germany prevented the other half of Europe from falling to communism as well. And I don't think you know anything about what a viking would think.

  • @Pitfossil , they certainly were glory days for the US of A. But who are you?, you say us Krauts, but then your personal page appears tobe in French ??

  • The singer next to Frances is Alan

    Copeland of the Modernaires

  • If you watch the movie segment just before Frances sings she comes up on stage and Glenn's character helps her off with her coat. She says "Thank you James" instead of "Thank you Glenn". They graciously left it in. A great movie with music that will never grow old.

  • @allegheny48 This is a good and a disappointing scene at the same time. Langord's voice was even better here than during World War II. But, if they were trying to re-create a scene from 1944, why oh why could they not persuade her to wear her hair up as it was in tthe style of 1944. Langord wanted to wear the "latest" hair style in 1954 when the movie was made which was the page boy hair cut. But that 1954hair style and dress destroys the whole illusion of the World War II period,

  • To D4g4marc4

I feel exactly the same way about this scence! But, costumes designers (& hair/ makeup artist) of this time period up int o the 1970's) would usually go for current looks in exchange for (rencebt) period looks. See "The Roaring 20's (1939), Most MGM musicals from the 1940's or 50's that were supposed to in the 1920's (Doris Day's "Love me or Leave me) tried) Cyd Charise in "Party Girl" supposed to be 1920's but , it was pure 50's! Funny Girl? Same! but, We LOVE HOLLYWOOD!!!

  • @allegheny48 I've seen the movie 8 million times and never noticed that! Great catch!!

BTW I agree with the haircut on Frances... out of place IMHO.

  • @allegheny48 I bought this DVD just to see what you were talking about..... and you are correct. I am so happy that "They graciously left it in". My Mon's name was Frances and she had her hair done like MS. Langford's

  • Wir micht da.

  • :( :( :(

  • i saw this movie!!! my music teacher made me watch it im so glad he did its a great movie

  • This is to Anonymousminx3 - I don't know you from Adam but we obviously share great taste in music. I first got into this stuff from listening to my father's 78s. My best wishes to you and yours, for whatever that's worth.

  • This song brings me all the lovely and fantastic time that i sh I lived in Chattanooga (1971 till 1974) with my best friends Vance Templeton and Angelo.

  • Who is the singer next to Frances Longford? Is it Frank Sutton who played Sgt Carter in Gomer Pyle?

  • It sure looks like him.

  • Alan Copeland of the Modernaires

  • i love the american way to make the best music in this time, it`s marvelous !

  • Pardon me, boy

Is that the Chattanooga choo choo?

    Track twenty-nine

Boy, you can gimme a shine

And just a trifle to spare

  • I'm 52 and I was lucky enough to have two parents (both gone now sadly) who introduced me to this music. If there is an 'after life' I look forward to meeting them both again and enjoying this music once again. If not, well I've lost nothing.......

  • ditto formatman...im 42 as well and love the fact that there was more human involvement in the music and less computer "clean up"..there is a real reason they are called the "greatest generation"

  • yes i feel the same way too! ..

    Happy 4 of july 2009

    Michael

  • wow this is amazing.

  • i'm 42 years old and my mom and dad wound play the LP ever day ! and i understand where u are comeing from the old days was a good clean life ....

    Michael

  • I am 41 AND I could'nt agree with you more!!! Good days clean life. I wish our generation had this entertainment or something like it. I pass it on to my daughter.

  • So - Frances Langford was Mrs. Ralph Evinrude?

    -S-

  • It's such a shame that we don't have dance halls anymore with big band music etc. that people under the age of 50 go to! They knew how to have fun back then.

  • Watching this makes me wish there was a time machine so we could go back and see America in the 1940s.Sure must have been something back then.

  • these musicians seem so welll polishe d an d proffessional...tooo bad more of todays musicians arent like this.

  • There are! There are many great swing musicians out there! It is just not "popular". I do prefer Swing over modern big band jazz bands.

  • Id rememb her from HOLLYWOOD HOTEL with Dick Powell and Benny Goodman Orch ...LOL¡

  • Very good movie! I was wondering when they were going to play this on The Glenn Miller Story, but when they did, I could do nothing but sing along!

  • My father loved Glenn Miller!

In honor of my dad (he served his country), I put his name here.

    George V. Hill.

    1931 - 2007

  • Frances Langford was great lady. She accompanied Bob Hope on his tour of Pacific bases in WWII.

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill God bless your father and the rest of the "greatest" generation.

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill God bless your dad! Mine served his country too.

    Glenn W. Daniels

    1931-2005

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill Are your ancestors from Holland? Kind regards.

  • t sa rapelle le réveillon!!

  • She was lovely! She was my great-grandmother's cousin.

  • So you great-aunt! How cool!

  • She's my third cousin...

  • So SOMEHOW we ar distant relatives :)

  • Yeah, apparently!

  • Interesting that Frances Langford appears here, supposedly recreating her role at a Glenn Miller "military function". In reality, she never appeared with Miller's band- she did perform at military bases for the USO during the war (and built a summer radio series around one of those tours, for NBC's "CHASE & SANBORN PROGRAM" in 1945). For some reason, Universal couldn't get Marion Hutton or any of Glenn's original vocalists to appear in this film, so they got Frances...

  • ok, so I had know idea who this was or that the song existed(thanks for pointing that out BJ) but see goes to show you learn something new everyday. what a beautiful lady and voice. Thanks David

  • All I was saying Lil Sis is that I'm older than you and you probably have never heard..let along seen this lady before!!

    Love ya

    ~BJ~

  • Thanks David for this...I'm probably the only one out of me and Nicole that remember this one! Thanks for thinking of US!

    *BJ*

  • And she also did the voice of Mrs. Bickerson with Don Ameche

  • Frances Langford was a great singer, I'm coming to learn. Thanks for posting this.

  • They don't make singers like this anymore..and I doubt they ever will.

She was a real classy lady also.

  • This is the second closest I've seen to REAL swing music. the first closest might've been the real thing

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE but i cry every time at the end because its so sad but so sweet to that they did that for her I'm getting tears NOW just thinking about it My how they must have really loved each other thank you nice video

  • You are welcome

  • Love it. But when my teacher plays it shes sounds like tim allen

  • ha ha ha! Too funny!

  • Frances Langford was really a great entertainer. Thanks for the clip.

  • Certainly, Jo... She went to High School with my wife's Grandmother. I am trying to get clips of Glen himself for the Ytube..HE was awesome.

  • You are very welcome !!!

  • Many thanks for posting one of the greatest songs of the Swing Era by one of it signature artists. This was my favourite performance from one of my favourite films, "The Glenn Miller," complete with the late, great Francis Langford and the vocal group, the Mordernaires. This is swing at its best and one of the many, many great songs from this time that always lifts your mood. Thank you again for posting this wonderful piece.

  • You are certainly welcome.. Actually, I like the version in the film that Glen actually plays in. This lady Frances Langford went to grade school with my wife's Grandmother. She lived in her hometown for many years (before famous people all congregated in Hollywood. Thanks for viewing and rating.

  • I thank you

  • You are certainly welcome !!

  • Fantastic rendition of this great piece of music.

  • Awesome.
