God how i miss old disney world and old disney rides, the new ones, and “refurbished” ones are just not magical to me. i am so mad, and heartbroken they got rid of the old rides and shows, why couldn't they just build new stuff elsewhere, like in another state!
I love how you can hear the train whistle throughout the whole ride, and the overall train scene in done much better in this one; it builds it up more than the Disneyland one.
@bp1191 No, you also get hit by a train in the California version; you also wander into a warehouse full of dynamite...and I think our Hell scene was scarier :)
@aislingniriada1989 This track featured Toad's trophy room and an encounter with a band of gypsies, and a trip to Winky's pub; the other track did not.
I love both but There is acually a picture in the Winnie The Pooh ride of Mr Toad handing over the dead to the building to Owl, which I thought was a grand idea. :D EVERYONE LOOK FOR IT. Its when the ride first starts with Owl in his house i think.
This was two years after my first time at Disneyworld, at age 4. Thanks for filming and uploading both! Was the hell room heated like it is at Disneyland? (While I've been to Disneyworld five times, I've never been to Disneyland; as I live in Michigan, Florida is closer to California.)
This was always one of my favorite rides in the Magic Kingdom, one of the funnest.....why didnt they get rid of the LAME Snow White's Adventures. THAT used to be scary until they messed with it and added Snow White and toned down the scary scenes. They really messed up Fantasyland at WDW. First, the removed the Mickey Mouse review and shipped it off to Tokyo. Then they toned down Snow White and got rid of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea AND Mr Toad.
On the Winnie the Pooh ride that replaced this you can see a picture of Mr. Toad handing the deed over to Mr. Owl, and in the pet cementary outside the Haunted Mansion they erected a statue of Mr. Toad. I do miss this ride!
i hear they are expanding fantasyland and getting rid of toontown fair..i hope they put this ride back..especially since i just saw a mr toads' wild ride shirt at the emporium on main street!!

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride was an ideal choice for at least three reasons:

2. The Wind in the Willows short is virtually unknown by most people, and thus "unmarketable" (due in part to Disney's failure to promote the film after its lackluster release in 1949).
3. Mr. Toad relied almost entirely upon painted flats, whereas its neighbors either had animatronics or fiberglass characters/props. This was of course an aesthetic decision that arose as a result of financial limitations (a rather resourceful move considering that Toad had more characters and props than both Peter Pan and Snow White combined). Nonetheless, the general consensus was that Toad was dated and obsolete. Also the
fact that ride never received a substantial update didn't help either.
If one thinks about it, the ride is like a morality tale. Mr. Toad ends up in hell solely because of his hedonism and reckless behavoir. Having him wind up in heaven after his series of catastrophes would be "unethical" and send mixed messages to children. And it wouldn't be as hilarious either.
What I think should of happend at the end of the ride:
u get on the train tracks. u keep going intil u see the train light. let the train horn blow. then right at the last second, u turn left or right off the track. then u go through a door and thats the end!
I was five when they took this out, but i still remember parts of it vividly.
I really wish they had kept it, although between the pub, and hell, and gunslinging weasels, i can see why they opted to close it....but it was still the best....
Nostalgic or not, it's an outdated ride using cardboard props, faded and stained from cigarette smoke, and hairdoos that our great, great grandparents styled.
If you want to effectively criticize this ride, then you should probably use a more analytical approach rather than simply spouting off empty, superficial statements like "it's an outdated ride." Come back once you've done some research (where you'd realize that the sets and props are a combination of plywood and metal, not cardboard) and have given serious thought to the aesthetics and historical context of the ride. Otherwise stop plaguing this forum with uninformed, philistine remarks.
You know, why have they never brought about a Sleepy Hollow ride? If they were going to get rid of Mr. Toad the least they could've done would be to go the other direction of Ichabod. Now THAT would've been a scary, fun ride. The Headless Horseman could probably give the witch in SWSA a run for her money.:)
You know, I bet if in the end, if there was NO hell scene, this attration might have had a better chance of surviving. In other words, you still get hit by a train yes, BUT instead of going to hell, they could've done some sort of strobe or spinning effect, as if it was showing a "crash effect". Then you exit the ride, no hell scene what-so-ever.
Look I had no idea as a kid in the 70s who the hell Mr Toad was. Never saw the Ichabod film. But I enjoyed the hell outta the ride. It was my favorite ride behind the Haunted Mansion and Pirates. Now they got that silly Winnie the Pooh ride for crying out loud.
Splash Mountain is based on a movie (Song of the South) that was never released on video and it has characters that nobody is familiar with, but that ride is still open. That whole "nobody knows who Mr Toad is" excuse was a bull shit reason to close this ride
Mr. Toad was a popular ride in Fantasyland. Did you ever heard of the protests people did in order to stop the ride's closure, that explains that the ride was popular
Perhaps, but I rarely see Pooh with a short line either. I guess it's because I was scared to death of this ride as a kid but i'm kinda biased as to which I personally prefer ^^;
I work at Disney World in Fantasy Land on the Winnie the Pooh ride and the reason they closed Mr. Toad was because it was unpopular and not many people know who Mr. Toad was. A survery was done and many more people know who Winnie the Pooh was, so it was changed, and it has been more popular than Mr. Toad. Was a good ride though, I will admit. Wish they could have had both...
@marines111 There is not ride called Song of the South. There is a ride called Splash Mountain that has characters from the movie 'Song of the South'. Though the characters have been made PC for the ride. Example being in the movie, Brear Fox catches Brear Rabbit in a tar baby trap, in the ride that is changed to a honey bee hive. If the world would relax and not get so up tight over stupid stuff like that, then we would not have to worry about "offending" someone.
@luisrox94 it was released on video. i had it when i was a kid.. It's only been released in very limited amounts on DVD.. I can't wait until they release it for real.. Although, i'd say it'll be at least 50 years from now before they do
okay mr.toad's wild ride fans here's the plan that will get away our saddness away,''i will tell the tokyo disneyland workers to rebuilt that exciting wild ride.''
That ride scared me to tears as a kid - no wonder...still miss it though - was at Disney yesterday and it's just not the same. All the good rides are gone...20,000 leagues under the sea was good too
yup, makes sense to me. i think they got rid of it because of the Hell portion and people try to "shield" their children from such things. rubbish if you ask me, no one can shield their kids forever.
SPOILER- Information on Mr. Toad Cartoon / Movie -They made a cartoon before this ride came out. Mr. Toad has a bugey and carriage. He sees a new motor-car. He wants it. He asks if he could buy it from these weasels. He gives them the deed to Toad Hall (which is the building you are in- in ride). They say he can have it. They make him act like he stole the car. The bar dude is the ring leader of the weasels (bald dude). He goes to court, and is found guilty.(Continued next comment)

(SPOILER Continued)- He is sent to a castle, where he is locked up. He escapes lockup because his talking horse helps him out of lockup. The police are after him. He finds a a black train (sound familiar), and goes on it. He jumps off the train, and goes into the ocean. He is stuck with a ball and chain in the ocean (because he didn't take it off). The thing is that you think he might be dead, but he comes back to his friends house, and talks to them. (Continued next comment)
SPOILER (Part 3)- They figure out he is innocent, and they want to help him catch the ring leader (Winky), and the weasels. His friends are a badger, mole, and a rat. They go to Toad Hall because the weasels have the deed even though they must have stoled that car. They try to get the deed, they eventually get the deed from Winky. Mr. Toad is cleared of any wrong doing at the end of the movie / cartoon, he is flying a plane. The friends are like, Oh no! First, he had carriage, car, and now.
I have never seen Disneys Wind in the willows but I sort of know the story but the one thing I don't get is the ending scene with the devils.Does he die or something cos Im so puzzeled!
In the movie version he doesn't die. When the first version of this ride was opened in California it was a spin on classic carnival "dark rides". Hence the reason you are sent to Hell in the ride. Disney basically described the ride as "Toad's crazy dream", kind of parallel to the movie while not copying it exactly. When the ride was added in Florida, the ending was kept.
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is gone in Florida, but you can stil ride the original in California.
Thanks for the video! I never got to go on it because by the time I had the chance, it was gone. I really wish they would bring it back though! I would have liked to go on it!
I never rode on this and it is WAAAYYYYY better than Pooh, I hate Pooh for taking out a classic!!! F**k Pooh, Its all about Toad!!!! Bring Back Toad!!!!! Down with that stupid bear!
Is this the "newest" incarnation or one at Florida?
I remember this when I was a kid and rode the ride at flordia - wasn't there much more "MR TOAD!" exclamations from the audiotronics on the Calfornia ride or am I mis-remembering it?
Also I remember there being a different sound track altogether.
I do remember the hell scene though, and I wasn't put off at the time (although I was about 12ish)
It was replaced because it was "too scary" What they have Tower Of Terror, Haunted Manshion (not really scary tho) and Extra TERRORASTIAL Alein Encounter(which even disney said was the scarriest ride there) And they Replaced Mr. Toad?! And Expedition Everset has 22 feet yeti! Wow...people ripped of pooh head on Mr. Toad and people got off of it and snuck behind scereny! i saw pics I was really funny.
for the record, they replaced Alien Encounter too. I think Toad got removed because it's based on a movie that pretty much NO ONE knows XD I hadn't seen the movie when I rode it, which was probably why I hated it as a kid
God, this ride traumatized me when I was a kid - mostly because of the Hell scene. I never knew that scene was called Hell until now and it's like WTF... Hell in a kid's ride?! lol. oh yeah and don't forget about the beer. :P
Some of you probably aren't going to belive this, but i once found something on the internet that had comments on what people thought about the closing MTWR. Belive it or not there were 1 or 2 people that said if Disney wanted to put Pooh in Disney World, they should have replaced the Hall of Presidents. Don't ask me what site it was, cause i don't remember
Yes thank you so much for posting this, This was my favorite ride, and still is. Winnie the Pooh must DIE!!!!! They should have never replaced Mr. Toads wild ride with Winnie the stupid bear, he should have remained little stuffed animals, and crappy ass movies. Fuck Winnie the Pooh, And Christopher Robin tooo, what kind of boy wears Mary Jane shoes?????????
HA! I remember that bright light scaring the total crap out of me as a little kid. Funny I don't even rememebr the devils scaring me, just that damn light.
Did anyone notice that Toad's not in there at all?

the thing is, if u go to hell, why not heaven??? that would of been a LOT more sutible for parents and kids.
Silverfang797 3 years ago
If one thinks about it, the ride is like a morality tale. Mr. Toad ends up in hell solely because of his hedonism and reckless behavoir. Having him wind up in heaven after his series of catastrophes would be "unethical" and send mixed messages to children. And it wouldn't be as hilarious either.
ChimesAtMidnight 3 years ago 5
What I think should of happend at the end of the ride:
u get on the train tracks. u keep going intil u see the train light. let the train horn blow. then right at the last second, u turn left or right off the track. then u go through a door and thats the end!
Silverfang797 3 years ago
I was five when they took this out, but i still remember parts of it vividly.
I really wish they had kept it, although between the pub, and hell, and gunslinging weasels, i can see why they opted to close it....but it was still the best....

Nostalgic or not, it's an outdated ride using cardboard props, faded and stained from cigarette smoke, and hairdoos that our great, great grandparents styled.
strumpeteer 3 years ago
If you want to effectively criticize this ride, then you should probably use a more analytical approach rather than simply spouting off empty, superficial statements like "it's an outdated ride." Come back once you've done some research (where you'd realize that the sets and props are a combination of plywood and metal, not cardboard) and have given serious thought to the aesthetics and historical context of the ride. Otherwise stop plaguing this forum with uninformed, philistine remarks.

Did anyone else besides me catch the Crocodile from Peter Pan hanging on the wall in the trophy room?
DisneyFan16672 3 years ago
You know, why have they never brought about a Sleepy Hollow ride? If they were going to get rid of Mr. Toad the least they could've done would be to go the other direction of Ichabod. Now THAT would've been a scary, fun ride. The Headless Horseman could probably give the witch in SWSA a run for her money.:)
KekoaOnorati 3 years ago
Actually, there was, in fact, a planned Sleepy Hallow Ride, but it was chucked in favor of Mr. Toad.
frankydman 3 years ago 2
You know, I bet if in the end, if there was NO hell scene, this attration might have had a better chance of surviving. In other words, you still get hit by a train yes, BUT instead of going to hell, they could've done some sort of strobe or spinning effect, as if it was showing a "crash effect". Then you exit the ride, no hell scene what-so-ever.
Well, that's MY opinion anyway.
frankydman 3 years ago 3
This comment has received too many negative votes show
no, i'm pretty sure they closed it because no one has any idea who the Hell Mr. Toad is anymore
Dragonrider1227 3 years ago
What about the Nostalgia buffs and CLASSIC Disney fans?
frankydman 3 years ago 2
Look I had no idea as a kid in the 70s who the hell Mr Toad was. Never saw the Ichabod film. But I enjoyed the hell outta the ride. It was my favorite ride behind the Haunted Mansion and Pirates. Now they got that silly Winnie the Pooh ride for crying out loud.
007InMiami 3 years ago
Splash Mountain is based on a movie (Song of the South) that was never released on video and it has characters that nobody is familiar with, but that ride is still open. That whole "nobody knows who Mr Toad is" excuse was a bull shit reason to close this ride
luisrox94 3 years ago 26
Yes, but THAT ride still has lots of people riding it. Did Mr. toad?
Dragonrider1227 3 years ago
Mr. Toad was a popular ride in Fantasyland. Did you ever heard of the protests people did in order to stop the ride's closure, that explains that the ride was popular
luisrox94 3 years ago 2
Perhaps, but I rarely see Pooh with a short line either. I guess it's because I was scared to death of this ride as a kid but i'm kinda biased as to which I personally prefer ^^;
Dragonrider1227 3 years ago
I work at Disney World in Fantasy Land on the Winnie the Pooh ride and the reason they closed Mr. Toad was because it was unpopular and not many people know who Mr. Toad was. A survery was done and many more people know who Winnie the Pooh was, so it was changed, and it has been more popular than Mr. Toad. Was a good ride though, I will admit. Wish they could have had both...
PLeyava 3 years ago
@luisrox94 and on top of that, "Song of the South" is WAY more politically incorrect than Mr. Toad and yet it still remains open.
marines111 1 year ago
@marines111 There is not ride called Song of the South. There is a ride called Splash Mountain that has characters from the movie 'Song of the South'. Though the characters have been made PC for the ride. Example being in the movie, Brear Fox catches Brear Rabbit in a tar baby trap, in the ride that is changed to a honey bee hive. If the world would relax and not get so up tight over stupid stuff like that, then we would not have to worry about "offending" someone.
headmouse 1 year ago
@luisrox94 it was released on video. i had it when i was a kid.. It's only been released in very limited amounts on DVD.. I can't wait until they release it for real.. Although, i'd say it'll be at least 50 years from now before they do

That ride scared me to tears as a kid - no wonder...still miss it though - was at Disney yesterday and it's just not the same. All the good rides are gone...20,000 leagues under the sea was good too
idealinsight53 4 years ago
This seems like Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin minus the spinning. Rest in pieces Mr. Toad.
MANEATINGWREATH 4 years ago
Man, i loved that ride. but i know why disney got rid of it,
1: You steal a car.
2:you go to a beer pub.
3:you get hit by a train.(scary for little ones)
and 4: going to hell. but still they should've kept it. and now they're selling the cop prop on Ebay 0_0
Blop123 4 years ago
So... the story is that Toad steals a motercar and get's hit by a train and go's to hell for setaling the car.
Silverfang797 4 years ago
yup, makes sense to me. i think they got rid of it because of the Hell portion and people try to "shield" their children from such things. rubbish if you ask me, no one can shield their kids forever.
DarkChick113 4 years ago
Actually, it's supposed to be Mr. Toad's "crazy dream".

First, he had carriage, car, and now.

wow what a crazy ride! why disney removed it!?
it was a classic atraction on disney and it was so ... FUN!! =)
XDstarfoster27XD 4 years ago
I think its a message about driving. Driving too fast = Death possibly.
Also Mr Toad was a rogue so he ended up in hell when he did crash.
Although it could also have been disney's attempt at a dark ending rather than a happy one which is in most rides.
Nizurel 4 years ago 2
I have never seen Disneys Wind in the willows but I sort of know the story but the one thing I don't get is the ending scene with the devils.Does he die or something cos Im so puzzeled!
Brermouse 4 years ago
In the movie version he doesn't die. When the first version of this ride was opened in California it was a spin on classic carnival "dark rides". Hence the reason you are sent to Hell in the ride. Disney basically described the ride as "Toad's crazy dream", kind of parallel to the movie while not copying it exactly. When the ride was added in Florida, the ending was kept.
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is gone in Florida, but you can stil ride the original in California.

Can anyone tell me if this was built after the one in California or not, as I remember going to see that one about 18 years ago when I was 10ish.
THans for posting this up, I didn't even realise there were two different tracks for this, let alone two different "versions" in the parks.

i miss this ride so much. pooh is a worthless p.o.s. of a ride.
abiogen 4 years ago 4
Is this the "newest" incarnation or one at Florida?
I remember this when I was a kid and rode the ride at flordia - wasn't there much more "MR TOAD!" exclamations from the audiotronics on the Calfornia ride or am I mis-remembering it?
Also I remember there being a different sound track altogether.
I do remember the hell scene though, and I wasn't put off at the time (although I was about 12ish)

Oops, it was calfornia not florida, as the matterhorn / splash mountain / thunder mountain rides where there

Here Lies Mr. Toad Who got hit on the rode with some Pooh.
GalateaBloom 4 years ago 3
It was replaced because it was "too scary" What they have Tower Of Terror, Haunted Manshion (not really scary tho) and Extra TERRORASTIAL Alein Encounter(which even disney said was the scarriest ride there) And they Replaced Mr. Toad?! And Expedition Everset has 22 feet yeti! Wow...people ripped of pooh head on Mr. Toad and people got off of it and snuck behind scereny! i saw pics I was really funny.
GalateaBloom 4 years ago
for the record, they replaced Alien Encounter too. I think Toad got removed because it's based on a movie that pretty much NO ONE knows XD I hadn't seen the movie when I rode it, which was probably why I hated it as a kid
Dragonrider1227 4 years ago
The small statue of Toad in the Toad Hall scene is now in the pet cemetary of the Haunted Mansion.
